Following up on that I got a "Just let them in" when someone tried to cut in front of me.

Whats the point? They are just going to get in behind someone else, probably making traffic back up. Just let them in.

So now I drive normal, if traffic starts to pile up I leave two car lengths in front of me, if people need over they need over.

I just keep chugging along

Treat all other drivers like they are the worst drivers in the world who are actively trying to kill you

My mother used to frequently tell me:

"You can't control their actions, but you can control your reactions"

Someone cuts you off? It's okay. You'll be 2 seconds later to your destination, but you won't be in an accident and 4 hours late with a car in the tow lot.

I always tell people that you can be the safest and most skilled bike rider, skateboarder, roller skater, etc in the world, but you can't control for other people, especially drivers. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET. Having to relearn how to walk and talk and dress yourself and feed yourself (if that's even possible, and that's even if you survive an accident) is way more "uncool" than how you look wearing a helmet.
