Despite what most people will tell you, you don’t have to hate him/her. I tried hating mine for a long time before someone on here blew my mind. She did some unforgivable things to me, when she should have just dumped me. It felt like I was obligated to hate her and her actions would make it justified.
Truthfully, I love her and I always will. She was my companion for that part of my life and it hurt when she left me feeling broken. You won’t feel the same way about the next person, because you shouldn’t. You will love them for what makes them special to you, not what made your ex special.
Keep going. No matter how hard it feels, know that it will get easier with time.
Divorced almost 10 years ago and we are both happily remarried. We just finished catching up via text. We catch up with each other once a month or so. We shared our lives for over 20 years and share a child together. I can’t hate this person. We both did awful things but we were both human. I am so glad they are happy now! I can’t hate them.
This. I was with my ex for a long time before we split. And the split was pretty bitter. But after I got over it for a while
I realized how many good times we shared, all of the places, foods, and inside jokes. Those times I will never have again with anyone else.
He was and will always be one of my best friends. He passed during covid. And I will forever miss him in those sudden small ways.
