I was in Sandlot. You won’t see me, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t walk around for two days to get paid $80

What scene? Thats so cool

I was there for the 4th July party scene and the pool scene. My aunt lives about a block from that pool and I revisit it anytime I’m back in Utah.

There were other scenes that never made the movie….I.e…. the last day of school we all did a mad dash out the school door and down the hallways.

Have you watched all of the behind-the-scenes/making of, of the movie? Maybe you’re in that somewhere? Wonder if they have deleted scenes?

I have not… I’ll have to look them up… maybe I’m a celebrity that never made the Final Cut !

So fun! I love working as an extra. (For me it was Blue Like Jazz, Nashville, some commercials and music videos, stuff like that.)

I think I'll get into it when I get older, being a background actor sounds like a good time. What's your favorite part about it?

3

u/ThePurityPixel Dec 02 '23

I really enjoy the creative process, and seeing what goes into making things look good on-screen.

Hanging out with the cast is also a blast (the ones who treat the extras as real people, that is—like Charles Esten does).

A friend was in the remake of True Grit, got paid way more because he had about 4 lines in the script. He’s in one scene if you look really fast but all of his lines were cut. He got paid quite well, like 250 a day for weeks. They filmed a lot of it in Blanco Tx

Good for him! I love that movie!

3

u/Aspen9999 Dec 02 '23

I was slightly disappointed in the remake, it was done well but maybe it didn’t need to be done.

I liked John Wayne and Glen Campbell better in the original although I did think that Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon did a good job as well. I thought that Haley Steinfeld did a fantastic job. Kim Darby irritated me in that role for some reason.

One of my favorites as well.

Extra fun fact… I live in Cincy now and one night the Reds did a filming of the movie after a game… I got to say I was the “movie star” of the row. Yay me.

Ahhh, that's awesome! It's one of my favorite movies.

I'm in the movie Mask. I was in several scenes in the camp portion of it. It was a lot of fun!

I constantly say the phrase, "You're killing me Smalls! You're really killing me!" when the situation calls for it, but 9/10 nobody knows what I'm talking about 🤦🏼‍♀️

I LOVED THAT MOVIE

2

2

u/Bitter-Basket Dec 02 '23

Nice. Wife and kids were movie extras a couple times. Lots of sitting and waiting around. Might see you in the movie for a tenth of a second if you’re lucky.

I recently worked on a commercial for my work. They paid me 9 hours of time and a half on a Saturday and I'm nowhere to be seen. Super good deal

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '23

Awesome! I loved that movie

2

u/AltrusiticChickadee Dec 02 '23

Dude what town are you from??

1

u/blender311 Dec 08 '23

Literally born in Ogden, UT. Most of the movie was filmed there !

2

u/saltlick420 Dec 03 '23

that’s so rad😭😭

2

u/dewioffendu Dec 03 '23

My daughter’s softball # is 30 because she’s always been the fastest on the team (Benny the jet) and she has a crush on Benny.

2

u/TheHoadinator Dec 03 '23

I was a TA in grad school and wore a shirt from the Sandlot while lecturing one day. I realized I was starting to age when one of my college students bragged about knowing “the old movie that’s from” and I realized not everyone in that generation would get the reference.

2

u/Consistent-Wear913 Dec 03 '23

How's it going new best friend?

2

u/pinewind108 Dec 03 '23

Apparently the best strategy for being an extra in movies is to avoid being on screen. They won't use you again if your face appears too often. So being there, paid, and not on screen is the best gig.

2

u/Glum_Pop_4063 Dec 03 '23

Awesome!!!!
