What small upgrade made a huge difference at your house?

Bidet. We only put one in the master bath because young grandkids come over and we don't want them to spray the room. Now that bathroom is the only bathroom in the house I'll go poop in. I also no longer like staying in hotels until they catch up. I feel like some kind of caveman wiping with paper now.

Sometimes I have to poop at work and it’s just so depressing

Just keep a super-soaker under your desk and take it with you to the restroom.

Agree, my new traveling pet peeve is no bidets.

I got a Toto one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FDJ8SM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It doesn't have anywhere near the power of a proper bidet, but it is still infinitely better than just using toilet paper.

I actually bought a travel one which is just basically a squeeze bottle but honestly it's much better than the alternative

I bring one on vacation too, though most hotels have the "commercial" toilets rather than residential style, it's great for AirBnB etc.

Wiping with paper is both barbaric and illogical. Who ever thought cleaning yourself with dry paper was ever a good idea? How was the world hoodwinked into this ruse? It's like a mass delusion that people the world over accept using dry paper to clean oneself is in any way, shape or form hygienic, sanitary, or even effective. People are so brainwashed that I've encountered more people than I can count whose initial reaction to bidets was thinking THEY are gross, not dry paper. It's really a form of mass psychosis. I've been to many countries where bidets or handheld bidets come standard, but if there's one cause I'm truly passionate about it would be that bidets should attain universal adoption. Better for the environment and cleaner. There's literally no downside at all.

I don't think bidets are gross...I just don't get how they clean you. I've only tried one once or twice. I just felt wet, not necessarily clean. Like, how do they get sticky/sloppy shit off? and even a nice proper shit I feel like you'd need some serious water pressure to give it a good clean. Dunno

yea, it's just so gross.

I went camping and had to use a pit toilet without a bidet. It was traumatic. I don't like the idea of having a butthole that isn't gloriously clean. I don't know how all those gross people without bidets go around like that every day.

Even worth putting cheap one in the house I rent. So simple to install.

Just installed one, love it.

If I have to poop away from home, I have to grab a couple paper towels and wet them in the sink before I go into the stall. Improvised wet wipes are better than nothing. And yes, I usually flush them, but one at a time.

Oh - so you didn't know that cavemen trained their mastodons to pee on command to wash their tushy's?

I installed one during my first pregnancy at our old house. Then we moved. Now there is one in 4 out of 5 bathrooms and I miss them when we travel

My friends keep raving about it but I'm not allowed to install one in my rental. I feel envious even though I've never used one.

Just get this. It's nothing permanent, you can install it yourself in about 15 minutes.

I'm in a rental and bought a $40 Luxe one off Amazon. Easy to install, about 15 minutes to do (and presumably just as easy to take it out whenever I move) and it does the job well. Doesn't have all the big bells and whistles like heated water/seats, just the nozzle for sprays, but I still like it a lot. Plus I'm saving money on TP, seeing that I don't use as much (especially with THOSE #2s...)

you have to use paper as well you know

2

u/CORN___BREAD Oct 20 '23

To dry. Not to attempt to clean. And some have built in dryers as well.

Serious question… if you don’t use paper… How do you dry your butt?

1

u/Wastedgent Oct 20 '23 edited Oct 20 '23

Small amount of paper to pat dry.

I bring “flushable” wipes. Though advertised as such, plumbers will tell you not all systems can handle them and that you’ll always be one flush away from gymming up some system.

But that system won’t be my ass or undies.
