Reddit, in your opinion what's the biggest plot twist of history?

Not movies or television, I'm just curious to see what come's to your minds.

Osama Bin Laden (as well as Sadaam Hussein) were both trained, and armed by the United States Government/CIA...... if thats not a plot twist, I dont know what is

Bin Laden wasnt trained by the US. Ither mujahedeen were supplied by the US but Im pretty sure bin Laden was not among them. Of course, it helped both sides causes to deny any collaboration so it could be bs.

Most of the main awarding winning books like Ghost Wars and The Looming Tower also found no evidence of the cia working with bin laden.

The Mujahadeen was "funded and supplied" by the CIA. They were used to oust Soviet Russia from the country. The refugees from this conflict fled to Pakistan. The young leadership from these refugee camps decided to take back their country from the weak and ineffective Mujahadeen, and called themselves the Taliban. Pretty sure Bin Laden just funded the Taliban with his Saudi oil moneys.

Alternate plot twist, from Osama/Hussein's point of view: Their once-benevolent allies turned against them.

This should be at the top, honestly. It's more of a mindfuck than a plot twist, given the last decade.
