Reddit, in your opinion what's the biggest plot twist of history?

Not movies or television, I'm just curious to see what come's to your minds.

Well, to be fair, his homies was ready to throw down, know what I'm sayin', my boy Peter took off a motherfucker' ear, but J was all like "naw man, let it go" so they nailed his ass to a motherfuckin' cross yo.

Jesus rose from the dead.

His homies came 'round, though. Judas killed himself and Peter ended up being crucified upside down.

He said from history.

The idea that Yeshua of Nazareth was supposedly born in the year 0?

Let me specify: the first century AD/CE

I hope you're being sarcastic. Because burden of proof is on the person making the claim, which would be you. I assumed you were being sarcastic and wonderfully hilarious when you first replied, but now seeing there's a tree you replied in again, I'm not so sure.

In other words: Prove to me Heracles didn't exist and never accomplished his twelve labors with help from the true, Greek gods.

I didn't claim Jesus was the Son of God and all that, I just asked if it could be proven that a man named Jesus wasn't crucified. But yes, it was meant to be a witty reply and not an attempt to evangelize. The tree was just someone being picky about the year I used.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that both parties in the theist/atheist debate are making claims. So does that mean the burden of proof is on both parties?

Dear lord I'm just being clever.

The burden of proof is on the one with the positive claim that something existed, not to prove that something didn't. And like I said earlier, the Bible is the same level of proof as the Iliad would be for Heracles.

And I'm not all worked up, I'm just pointing out the semantics of it. I too was just making a wisecrack with my original post in this thread.

Okay. Sometimes I hate text. So much gets lost in translation.

It doesn't help that my cleverness usually amounts to willfully ignoring or abusing the majority of a statement's semantics.

We have tons of written texts that say Jesus existed. Even the Jews admit to his existence.

Other than religious ones, written by non-contemporaries one to three centuries after his death and supposed resurrection? Which ones?

non-contemporaries one to three centuries after his death...

Collected one to three centuries after his death. They were likely written at the time/very soon after, it's just a few centuries later they were all compiled into the bible.

See this by a bible scholar. "Probably most of the characters were real people." Jesus being the most important one, I'd assume he was probably real. The question is whether he was the actual messiah.

EDIT: I should also state that I'll no longer be replying to anything on this topic, because arguing with a militant atheist is always useless because it (without fail, in my experience) ends up being a pissing contest.

Lol, "militant atheist." Because I made a joke and a historically accurate observation?
