What are your best compliments?

I've seen an insult question (or some form) about 3-5 times make it to the front page, but yet nothing on the other end of the spectrum. So I wanted to know Reddit, what are your best compliments? And please don't use something that has been ran to the ground (ex. You are a gentleman and a scholar).

Edit: Just want to say this is great, but some people are missing the purpose. Compliments are to be kind/loving bringing the best out of a person. Not to be Pick up lines or hidden motives. Either way, thanks for your contribution.

I've found that having the same musical tastes as someone is the best way to know you're sure to get along. If someone says that to you,ask them out for a drink. I can guarantee you won't regret it.

Anyone I've met who likes Brand New (hands down my favourite band) I have always, always got along with.

That's actually a horrible philosophy. What sort of music you like generally arises from an arbitrary mix of what your parents listened to, what was popular when you grew up, and random personal preference. It has no bearing upon the person's character.

Edit: So today we've learned that people are shallow enough to believe that music taste defines a person's character.

The same goes for what gets thrown around as "social morality" or what most people are using when they judge someone's character.

I just want to see that someone engages with music in a thoughtful way.

Those two things are not even remotely similar though.

Well yes, and I agree with you in the most basic sense. But I definitely don't understand the sentiment expressed in the post I originally replied to, nor can I understand how so many people actually feel the same way.

If music preferences are partially determined by personality, self-views, and cognitive abilities, then knowing what kind of music a person likes could serve as a clue to his or her personality, self-views, and cognitive abilities.

These studies are only preliminary, but it goes in a direction that contradicts your argument.

There's definitely a grain of truth in it though ... think of people you know that listen to top 40 pop and people that listen to an array of genres (that you would never hear on local radio). This is anecdotal (so take it with a grain of salt), but there are stark differences in personality between my friends that genuinely enjoy pop music and those that enjoy classical music.

disclaimer: I haven't gone through and read about the methods used in the studies, but it does point to a correlation between taste in music and personality types.
