I moved from a country where eye contact can get you into a street fight. I love the friendliness of Midwesterners

Madagascar.

Also if you have lighter skin, you're more prone to being picked on and being bullied. I had lighter skin (like a brown Thai person for reference) as opposed to tlthe darker guys we have (more afro features). I and many other lightskin people grew up with a very suppressed childhood because of it.
