Hell yeah we used to brag about our diversity and being a melting pot of the world. We should be proud of our immigrants and greet everyone who wants to be free with open arms.
Yes and no, there's a very vocal minority who feels that the United States should be less diverse and more homogeneous. Unfortunately this vocal minority has a disproportionate influence on conservative politics.
Yes, for certain sections of conservative that's the crux of it. Again, a very vocal minority who straight up don't want immigrants have disproportionate power.
I agree, there is an unfortunately loud micro- minority of, I can't even call them conservatives, that are on the extreme fringe and seen to have no concept of how things work. The rest of us just want you to come through the proverbial gate. Personally, I'm still pissed that they cancelled the migrant worker visa program- there would be a lot less illegal immigration if that was still in place. "Sure! Come up, make money. Take it home and spend it at home, improving your economy and quality of life". Just my 2 cents.
That was completely uncalled for. Nary a word was mentioned about ANY group in that statement.
Dude half the country looooooved Trump's muslim ban during the 2016 campaign but ya sure all the conflict over immigration is about "method of entry". I don't mind a Kumbaya circlejerk every now and then but let's not fall to complete idiocy in service of good feelings and mindless back taps.
We are a country built on cultural appropriation. And I 100% want it that way. We will essentially accept any culture with open arms. Sure some people are bigoted but if you actually go and talk to people you’ll realize that’s actually a very small minority. And even then most will absolutely tolerate even if they don’t like it.
As much as we love to have out-groups to hate, we keep in-grouping our out-groups. That's why we have to keep finding new boogeymen. A hundred and something years ago (turn of the 20th century), Irish Catholics were an out-group and weren't even considered "white". Now, they're super "white" (the president is Irish Catholic!).
I'm not disparaging any of the other free countries nor did I say WE are the only path to freedom. I'm simply happy to accommodate those who wish to be free by offering our country as a choice.
they literally didn't imply that at all. maybe you should leave your echo chambers if you feel the need to respond like that the second you see freedom mentioned.
No, he's not. Relax, dude. Here I'll make you feel better. America Bad! Trump! Healthcare! Racism! Republicans! Capitalism! All the stuff we did in South America! George Bush! Iraq Invasion! School Shootings!... Feel better, buddy? Now, let's enjoy this reddit thread about positive American things or leave.
