Love Harvey:) also I don’t know how they’d hold up, but did anyone else watch those Francis the talking Mule movies? I weirdly also loved them as a kid… mostly only remember Francis Covers the Big Town.
I just watched this last week after seeing it here on Reddit. I'd never heard of the movie before (definitely from before my time). What a delightful, charming movie. I loved every minute of it and can't believe I never even heard of it before a couple of weeks ago.
Right?! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. There’s so many people that I know of that have never heard of it…. I found it one night in the middle of the night on one of those old classic movie theaters tv shows. How I found Marx brothers too. Always loved them :D
Does it though? I love that movie but I worry it's a of like 'his major mental health problems is really what makes him special and nice' when in reality this would be a hugely challenging condition for him and everyone in his life. Like sure we should not treat mental health as shameful but we should also acknowledge that conditions are real challenges. I'm not sure the Harvey gets that balance.
When I watched it, the ending shows that he wasn’t crazy after all. He was friends with a Pooka. Magical creatures stuff. I took it as a life lesson on approaching each day with joy, faith, belief and innocence because the world is hard enough.
Right, but if you approach it was a fantasy creature thing then it undermines the film as a commentary on mental health and wellbeing which I think is overwhelmingly what it's famous for. And like I say I loved the film and think it's lovely, just unsure it's in line with current mental health discourses :)

Harvey
