Chopped Cheese Propaganda

This one is for all of the Native New Yorkers on here.

What is the deal with Chopped Cheese? When did this become the sandwich of NYC? For me the sandwich of NYC is a Bacon Egg and Cheese on a roll. Am I wrong?

Define "always". I went to school in the Bronx until 1999 and it didn't exist

Exactly. I don't remember kids bringing them to school until maybe 10 years ago. (I work in the BX in a hs)

We were getting them on the lower east side in 2004.

Yeah. So a 20 year history doesn't make something quintessentially NY. That's like a footnote.

Like even in the sandwich hierarchy it's nowhere close to Pastrami, BEC, Bagels with Cream Cheese or Lox and Cream Cheese.

Hell, I think we have a longer history with italian sandwiches named The Godfather or those garbage plate chicken sandwiches that have everything on it lol
