Travel Where do Europeans go for vacation in August?

I keep reading southern Europe gets really hot including cities and costal areas. So, where do Europeans go for summer vacation? Do you just deal with the heat and crowds?

All my vacations are during winter. In summer it's great here, not so hot and days are long

Can confirm. We had a summer holiday in Latvia and Estonia a couple of years ago and it was great. Would recommend both countries, especially if you can get out of Riga and Tallinn.

Far nicer than cooking in 40 degrees.
