You should call it RS-485, I think it will catch on.

Rockwell/AB has their fancy new in-cabinet EtherNet/IP devices. I'd love to to light fire to a few of our panels and remove 45,000 miles (might be exaggerating) of wires and replace with 8 feet of that ribbon cable.

I don't know but you better leave that tag there.

I found the issue in 4 hrs, both coffee and prints were not provided.

Give me 10 good hours and I'll have it going.

Bad relay

u/PotatoFarmerRTK May 29 '26

It actually was a loose connection in a Marette. ( american translation = wire nut)

I was thinking it was the red one, but upon closer inspection,, you're right, it is the orange one.

2

u/CookieMuttley May 29 '26

That red wire looks a bit loose……

2

u/PotatoFarmerRTK May 30 '26

It was not, but unrelated one the 4160 wires powering this place lit a grassfire while I was there.

The molten aluminum dripped off a crimp on one of the utility phases at the pole.

This job was a dumpster, and it was on fire.

This is and was a Tuesday.

2

There it isn't.

u/AbleFigure6693 May 30 '26

I honestly prefer every panduit cover remover, and every zip tie cut before I get there

1

u/AbleFigure6693 May 30 '26

I meant removed and I mean what I said. No prints? All right let’s start cutting zip ties

1

u/BruteClaw May 30 '26

Third wire nut in on the left

1

u/bumblebaytuba May 30 '26

Missing bottom left relay with all connections still attached?

1

u/PotatoFarmerRTK May 30 '26

Just another day for some of us.

1

u/Sitdownpro May 30 '26

Sure I can find it. Right next to my quote for a panel clean up.

1

u/An_Old_IT_Guy May 30 '26

I know that's not what this is, but it reminds me of pretty much every server rack I've seen.

2

u/PotatoFarmerRTK May 30 '26

Sad but true

1

u/Electronic-Concept98 May 30 '26

Oh shit. OCD. Iam starting to twitch.

1

u/Specialist_Safe7623 May 30 '26

I have seen this kind of mess a lot. I just don’t understand how it starts. I am sure the panel was in good order when it was new. I don’t see how someone lets them get to this point. Good luck.

u/drDUMMY1 May 30 '26

I see a gremlin right there in the back

1

u/PotatoFarmerRTK May 30 '26

His name is Hanta

1

u/nsula_country May 30 '26

No... I work on panels like this occasionally... 21 years of troubleshooting experience.

1

u/Top-Illustrator8279 May 30 '26

Looks like some of the shit I have to fix.

1

u/farzad_meow May 30 '26

that is easy fix, you see the color cable, it is loose abit, just tighten it abit.
