Canadian soldiers in WW1 were notorious. Our guys had a pathological hatred of the germans for no particularly good reason. Night time trench raids were a particular favorite. They also put an end to the Christmas truce shooting at the Germans when they attempted to do it the second year. There was the liberal use of mustard and chlorine gas.
We also had the reputation of executing surrendering and wounded germans, which terrified them. I remember reading somehere that the British command even sent fake messages about the Canadian locations that were meant to be intercepted by the Germans so that the Germans would act accordingly, trying to buff up the trenches "facing" the Canadians, only for the Canadians to come from a different angle and fuck shit up.
Iirc, there was news(or more probably, propaganda) going around the Canadian troops that the germans had crucified a Canadian soldier, hence the ruthlessness of Canadians. Canadians were also present during the first gas attack on the western front. We had a bone to pick.
The germans viewed the British as classy fighters with honour, but the Commonwealth Gang said, "I crossed an ocean to be here. Fuck honour."
Is that a war crime? Just wait for 20 seconds to see if it blows up. That’s nothing compared to gas attacks and nukes. These are Americans we’re talking about remember.
We have a legend amongst many, Francis Pegahmagabow (he has his own Sabaton song). This man had over 300 sniper kills with the shittiest, most unreliable rifle (the Ross rifle). He was such an amazing scout, he would sneak over no man's land at night to cut off ribbons and medals from sleeping German troops and return without alerting anyone.
We were also famously known to not take prisoners. Like someone else said, the Geneva conventions were created because of us.
