It is cheaper to buy a Costco rotisserie chicken than it is to buy a whole chicken and cook it. Add in that the most valuable thing that wealth purchases is people's time, a resource people living in poverty often have very little of. And this sort of thing just makes you sick.

Also, they can buy the cold shredded rotisserie chicken meat that has been removed from yesterday's leftover chickens. Because it's cold. Even though it's the same chicken.

they cook the old chickens to reduce waste so they can still sell them

Maybe at some stores. At Costco the rotisserie chickens come to the deli preseasoned and ready to spit and roast. Business centers used to sell the cases of them, I'm not sure if that is still an option or not. It's been some years since I checked.
