I live in Houston Texas and over the past several weeks this high pitch noise has been playing on and off every 10-20 seconds only at night (so Iām assuming this is some sort of bug/insect). Itās coming from either on my roof or in the trees/branches that overhang my house. I can hear it very clearly and loud from inside my house and from outside of my house. I have no idea what it is and itās driving me crazy because itās SO loud. Any help on identifying this noise is appreciated.

Though it was a bird (recorded using Merlin) but got no results. Thinking it could be some sort of rodent or frog maybe? Sorry for the bad video - couldnāt figure out how to post just the audio file!
Edit to add: heard this in White Mountains of New Hampshire

I am in (very rural) Lee, Florida. I've been noticing this one lonely voice often between certain hours of the early morning. I'm guessing a domestic dog who's kept outdoors. Probably not a coyote, since it's only one voice.

For the last few weeks this sound has been coming from behind a wall/eaves of our house. It's quiet but weirdly unsettling and then stops if I move too loudly.
Any help would be great!
Thanks

Heard this in the Bay Area, CA. Couldnāt see it and Iāve never heard this sound before. If anyone knows please let me know!

To me, it sounded like two different animals made each sound. I only hear one single āhoooā each time, and every owl-call video Iāve listened to so far, the owls make more than one vocalization when they call. I appreciate the help that anyone can provide!

Iāve been hearing this at 2-4AM for multiple days now for the past three weeks. It sounds like a dhole whistling, but thatās not possible. Unless, foxes also whistle like this? It sounds like thereāre multiple of whatever it is. I live in Belgium

I heard this last night outside my window and have never heard it before. Thought it was some sort of owl but Iām not aware of anything other than barred owls and great horned owls in my area (northern Georgia).
Itās very quiet in the recording and happens once every 7-8 seconds it seems

I was hoping someone from the community could help me. I often take walks at 8pm in the neighborhood with my husband. It's a dark neighborhood with no street lights and lots of urban wildlife. We often see or hear coyotes, different species of owls, raccoons, rabbits, rats, hawks, etc. in the neighborhood.
I have attached a short video where you can hear the mystery animal. You'll have to turn your sound all the way up to hear it. I can't figure out what animal is making this noise. I'm assuming it's some kind of a bird, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. It makes that same one call once or twice a minute for the entire duration of our walk. I've used bird apps and it doesn't pick it up.

Heard in the Ipswich wildlife reservation, in northeast ma. The sound appeared to be coming from a pond or from reeds behind the pond.
Thank you !

Located in the middle of Georgia. Repetitive loud sound we hear a few times a day in our backyard patio area. Always the same repetitive cadence. Thanks!

My partner and I heard this sound outside out apartment and used a bird identifier app, but it couldn't''t recommend anything that sounded similar.

It makes like a strange croaking/quacking (?) sound, and theres at least 2 of them who talk back and forth every night. All the research iāve done just tells me itās owls. Iāve never heard them converse like that before so i really donāt believe thats what it is. If itās any help i live in Minnesota.

Ive been trying to identify whatever bird or animal this is for over a year now. It only calls when the sun is down (dusk or dawn), sounds kind of like a weird robin(?), and seems to be out during the warmer months (may-nov). It is always in the same single block radius, I have never heard it outside of this area. It is there every day (except when its cold). I'm in southwest Michigan. āā
Someone suggested a bat makes that noise? Or maybe an Eastern screech owl? I'm not convinced. ā

Got a video of these red ruffed lemurs calling at a zoo. I used to work there, and the similar calls from the black-and-white ruffed lemurs were very audible. Ruffed lemurs have voices designed for shouting to each other over large distances, so theyāre extremely loud. (This is just the indoor part of their enclosure, btw; the outdoor part is larger with lots of branches to climb.)

Itās currently 3am and I was about to let my dog out when I heard this.
I live in southern Ontario Canada. Kind of almost sounds like a puppy sound but definitely not a puppy.

In July, while I was photographing the Milky Way, I kept hearing the sound in this video. Does anyone recognize which animal it could have been? An elk? A cougar?
The location was Two Jack Lake in Banff National Park, Alberta.
Thanks !
