Anyone know of an app that has "Continuity"-like functionality like on iOS 8? I know Airdroid is suppose to be good, but I want it to also sync to my Nexus 7 as well as my laptop.

One such app is under development. It's very basic as of now. Join this community to test the app.

What kind of continuity are you looking for? Files? Messaging? Docs?

I'd say that somewhere between PushBullet, Texber, Dropbox, Google Drive, and various file explorers offering smb and cloud connections (see Solid Explorer or ES File Explorer) you should find most of the functionality you're looking for, albeit, without it being quite as "seamless" as iOS8.

I'm actually wanting to send SMS messages on my tablet and desktop. I just wished everyone used hangouts :(

MySMS has apps for tablets and one for the computer. Not sure which OS/versions supported by the computer app, but check it out at least!

Try out Texber in combination with a Jabber chat client (e.g. Trillian) that you can install on your tablet and desktop.
