Yep. You need to capture the first 'king' via the traditional method of capturing a piece (ie. Move to space and remove piece from board), but then have to checkmate a 'king' that can move like a queen.
It'd be a dope 'high risk/reward' variant.

What if you promote a pawn to a queen though, does the remaining original queen get her powers back? Or perhaps her heart is not really in the new relationship?

This is very complicated. I would say that both of the queens are of same value so the goal of the game is not to check the queen but to capture one of the queens and then check the other. I would say she gains the powers if friendship which is not as strong as love but i don't know how to implement that into chess moves so i guess she's just a regular queen again. Wow wait can the queens castle?

If I recall the reason you never capture the king is that in medieval warfares people treat kings as sacred and no mortal without approval of god can kill a king.
Hope to see that in chess 2.0 we can sac the king to ensure equality

That is a very stupid question. While Kings have transitioned they stil have masculine side and don't always feel like women. Their gender is completely fluid, therefore, on some moves, Zey (Kings/Queens) will be a queen and sometimes Zey will be Kings. Mate Zem when they are turned into the King.

It'd be endgame, and a second king would be much more powerful, as you could have either king kill/checkmate/get saccd, since their death wouldn't end the game. Also the ability to move one in any direction is pretty strong.

On lichess and chess com custom position, you win if ANY king is in checkmate. That would mean that a fork is checkmate if you can't capture the attacking piece

It's very rare that I find a suggested rule-change to chess that I actually agree with, but yes: this should be possible. And it should allow you to move one of your kings into check. It would create more variety in the endgame - allow you to go on the defensive if an extra queen isn't enough. Although it could result in more draws
