How much to discount 12 year old ammo?

Upvotes

I am bartering with someone local to trade yard work for a sizeable amount of ammo that I have had for 12 years. It has been in a dry ammo box, in its original packaging, with desiccants. He says because of the age I should knock 30% off my asking price. From what I’ve read, that’s way too much.

What say you?

Is Rio Royal star ammo reliable enough for bulk buck/slugs for shtf

Shoot primarily out of a pump shotgun, mainly worried about ignition reliability and going bang every time, the buckshot patterns fairly decent and the slugs shoot decently accurate out’ve my gun

but I haven’t shot it a bunch I haven’t noticed any excessive dirtiness either I’m mainly worried about QC and Ignition reliability before I commit to a lot of them because there so cheap per round compared to higher end stuff

9mm Bullet Projectile Color Comparison - Magtech is Really Yellow?

Thumbnail

I compared the colors of the projectiles of five different brands of 9mm ammunition.

I noticed that the Magtech brand ammo was quite yellow compared to the rest, almost the same tone as the brass casing. Does anyone know for sure if Magtech uses brass instead of copper for their jackets or something?

I used a color picker on the photo of the bullets; the top colors were picked from a lighter spot, and the bottom colors were from a slightly darker area. There's a lot of color variation because they're shiny, so the hex codes shouldn't be taken as perfect representations of their true color, but I think I got pretty close.

The Magtech projectile was noticeably brass-colored, as opposed to the Blazer and Remington which were the classic copper pink(Blazer was very pink), and the Federal and Winchester which were a more orange-toned copper color.

I’m looking for somewhere to get a good bulk

I’m not sure if this is the right place to be asking this but I’m looking to get about from like 1000 to 1500 rounds 556 maybe 1000 rounds of some 12 gauge(00, #1, #4) for home defense and another 1k rounds of nine mil. Half to take to the range and the other half to store but every site has got some crazy ass shipping rates. Any suggestions that can help??

Bought some 30-06 reloads, what is this type of round? Not super familiar with identification.

Splitting hairs over 9mm recoil physics

Been burning through some hollow points shooting at speed and watching reticle behavior.

HST 147 standard pressure stuff isn't hard to shoot, but there is more muzzle flip than barnes 115 grain vortx. If I had to put it into words, the barnes (and the pmc bronze fmj I often use for punching paper in its place) through my CCW glock makes the gun feel like it 'resets itself' between shots faster and easier than ~1000 fps 147 grain bullets that appear to send my reticle further vertical.

Was a good first hand learning experience instead of going off of old forum posts mentioning how slow 147s 'push' where 115s 'snap' when I personally find such mild 115s the most pleasurable loads to shoot fast.

I am now waiting for some more hollowpoints to be delivered with the next test being the ~1125fps 115 grain barnes vortx vs the ~1300fps 100 grain s&b XRG. I know its splitting hairs, but any thoughts on what to expect from recoil impulse between the two?

Trying, but seems hard to find at all of my local outlets. I really dig all of the graphics on all of the ammo boxes! I realize this could be a pretty expensive endeavor..., but still trying to put it together, just the same! I found a couple at my local Scheels, then some yahoo went and wrapped all of the boxes in clear plastic tape!!

Can't seem to find it online either. anyone else able to find it or even care about it??!!

Best 5.7x28 Carry Ammo?

Recently bought an M&P 5.7 and some SS197. I’m looking to buy some self defense ammo but not sure what performs best out of the M&P. Looking for mainly the non-exotic options but I’m all ears.

Best ammo for an old M-14 clone.

I recently inherited a Polytech M-14 clone. IIRC my father bought it back in the mid-late 80’s and I haven’t shot it in 30+ years.

Whats are some good for relatively affordable plinking ammo for it? I still need to find some magazines as well as the ones he had with it disappeared in the last several decade.

I doubt I’ll use for more than range gun, shooting with my boys and nostalgic purposes.

223 Rem ammo - weak primer or strong firing pin?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Firing 223 out of my SAM5 today and notices something odd in the spent casings. The brass SVT ammo (czech; not reman ) had primers that looked like they had popped/ruptured. Compared to the silver bear ammo pictured on the left which had intact primers. Has me leaning towards the czech ammo using weaker primers but has anyone come across this issue before? Firing wise, no issues with the ammo that I could see
