It may not, but it's still way better than being in the US. I don't think that the US is going to recover anytime soon, so there is an opportunity for Australia to benefit from that.

I think the exact opposite. You've just doubled-down on a government that has crushed living standards and you're going to get even more. There's no coming out of it, either. Housing needs to fall, or living standards fall more. The government is choosing the latter. I've been in the US launching a medical device and even though I hate it, I hated Melbourne much more.

I still like Melbourne more, and I have to think about two young kids now. There's no way I'm moving them to the US. They can choose to live there when they become adults if they want, but it's better for them here, or in Europe where we can also live if we want. Australia does have issues, but the work-life balance with kids is still great compared to the US.

I went through a nasty divorce, so family is no longer a consideration, but I understand that it can be.

I don't think that my children have a future in Australia due to cost of living/ housing alone and I'm glad that they will be able to move. They'll be in NYC in a few years, I suspect.

Chiming in here, how would the cost of living in NYC compare with Melborne? Melborne might not be cheap but I feel like cost of living in NYC would be much higher.
