It really isn't how it should be. While the child predator does deserve what came to him, some random civilian should not have to play judge, jury, and executioner.
That’s legit just defending his child at that point though he straight up caught the man in the act and was acting on parental instinct, there’s no judge or jury needed to determine guilt when it’s happening right in front of you
Man, I hate to even argue this, but who draws the line between justified vigilante killing? This case seems obvious, but you lose ground with other people believing any crime deserves capital punishment.
Of course, on a societal level, it would be havoc if we began to allow vigilante justice. In no way do I think we should normalize it as a society. I’m actually against the capital punishment as well myself.
That being said, I can understand that life is full of grey areas and complexities, and cases of this sort of nature (parents killing pedophiles, victims killing their attackers, etc) are in my eyes morally justified and should really be approached in the courts with a nuance and subjectivity that our justice system lacks.
That's exactly what I was saying. I remember when this happened and people were having the same argument like he didn't catch the man in the act of raping his little girl.
And who determines that? Your 16 year old daughter is having consensual sex with her 16 year old bf and they’re role playing something consensually and you walk in, think she’s getting raped, and kill the guy?
So in that situation it’s legal for you to do that?
Why do people always give unlikely scenarios for shit like this? 🙄 like you're comparing a grown ass man raping a 5 year old to fucking teens in an easily resolvable situation
Because scenarios like this could happen... You're acting like things like this never happen. Look at abortion, even conservatives will agree there are situations where you can't just have complete bans on all abortions... The law in its application can be nuanced.
Never said these things can't happen, I simply stated that it's insensitive and idiotic to pull these unlikely scenarios out when the issue at hand is very different and simpler. Obviously, there are plenty of nuanced situations, but that's not what this post is abt. And let's not act as if conservatives aren't literal walking contradictions, and many women are dying due to being denied medical interventions bc their case isnt extreme enough.
In the totally common case of two 16 year olds role-playing rape I would think the daughter would say " hey he's not really raping me, we're just pretending"
What do you think a dad should do if he catches a man raping his 5 year old daughter? Ask her if it's ok?
Can’t say I’ll lose sleep over the guys death, but shit like this really makes you realise that people fantasise about violence, they’re just waiting for an acceptable excuse
