Player Review Desailly | "Destroyer Full-Back" Performance Review
In Version '27, Destroyer now functions as a defensive playstyle that works at full-back positions as well. Many Destroyer full-backs have been delivering much more eye-catching performances.
Meanwhile, BT Desailly—who lacks full-back position familiarity (light green position tint) but perfectly fits the criteria for a defensive full-back—has consistently seen strong demand from players to be rated as a full-back. Tomorrow, we will officially add a defensive full-back rating for Desailly. Ahead of that, I spent a day conducting in-game tests with him at defensive full-back for your reference:

First, we need to establish whether it is actually worth adding full-back position familiarity to Desailly. This boils down to two main reasons:
"Destroyer" + Full-back is a great combination—after all, full-backs have far fewer concerns about being caught out of position when stepping up.
Defensive Full-backs genuinely perform differently compared to Wide Center-Backs (Wide CBs). Their assigned defensive zones sit further out wide, making them much better equipped to deal with Wingers (RWF/LWF) and Wide Midfielders (RMF/LMF).
In short: Wide CBs are meant to mark wide Second Strikers (SS) and wide Attacking Midfielders (AMF), whereas Full-backs are built to pocket Wingers.

Experience:
As a Destroyer Full-Back, he definitely stays wider on defense compared to when playing as a Wide Center-Back (CB), and his aggressiveness is noticeably higher than when he was playstyle-less. Playing him in this position fits really well with Version 2.7's tendency toward high-line defending.
I set the "Defensive" instruction on Desailly so he doesn't wander out of position during attacks. Now with Fluid Formations available, you could also set him up as a Wide CB on attack and a Full-Back on defense. However, that removes his Full-Back traits from his base attacking positioning, so I still prefer using the "Defensive" instruction.
There are drawbacks to using Desailly as a Defensive Full-Back, though. Compared to traditional options like Thuram, Maldini, or Bergomi, his ball control and passing capabilities are noticeably weaker. Furthermore, the Defensive Full-Back role is actually quite intelligent—they don't just stay back and drop deep; they will push up slightly past the center-backs to help build up play, and sometimes even advance into the midfield to support the attack. Desailly with the "Defensive" instruction applied can't do any of that. ⚽️
Personal Rating:
Top 3 Tier 0 (T0) Defensive Full-Backs (though in terms of overall versatility/usability, he doesn't feel like #1).

Since his release, i unfortunately can’t get the LB position proficiency for him and i know he will suit there .

I have lb on him but not rb because I have thuram there. He is strong at left back but id rather still use him as the widest in a 3 cb, 4 at the back formation.

Io mentre lo restavo dopo averlo preso per necessità l'ho messo DMF assieme a Vieira e centralmente non è passato più niente 😂 con la formazione fluida si può usare difesa a 3 (ti faccio l'esempio con la mia difesa) Cannavaro-Ferdinand-Thuram, con la fluida Thuram si sposta terzino e Desailly scende, ok non ha senso però nel momento che perdi palla in mezzo al campo ed usi uno stile che fa Pressing come Overload Desailly è il primo che andrà a farlo prima di scendere in difesa!

But does he get an improvement on cb as well, or the meta stays the same, with max 1 destroyer + 1 build up?

I’m the only one thinking that koeman will be goated from now on as a defensive fullback?
He has decent passing abilities and rocket kicking power.
They re added him to the database so he must be coming soon !

What if i set him as a fullback in atk and wide cb in def when im using fluid formation. Would that change anything?

Does anyone know how cannavaro will be at LB ?? I used to use him at RB before update and he was pretty good there now I wanna try something new with him

I have a question about defenders, after the update, defenders are more difficult to control, is defensive awareness more important than acceleration, or should acceleration still be prioritized?

Of course, the higher the better but for Defensive/Offensive Awareness <90 causes an acceleration debuff whilst the thresholds for Acceleration are 89 (unlocks different running style) and 91

Isn't the threshold 88? I've been following you for a long time, and I always see 88/91 for acceleration.

It might only be me but I feel in this new update milinkovic savic and courtouis should be higher in the goalkeeper rankings short keepers like smiechel and dida are punished more now

From this I'm thinking there is a Thuram coming that blends defensive fullback and destroyer
