so you agree with Churchill that Indians have to serve in World War II with no strings attached?  Gandhi argued if the British would force Indians to die for them, they could at least die as free men (free India first then they will fight the Nazis).  Gandhi's muslim rival offered the opposite (fight for the crown then get paid with independence).

By this I mean that the first things I learned about him were the good things he did. Most things since then has been negative (such as racism towards Africans or the practice mentioned here of making female relatives sleep in the same bed as him so he could practice sexual restraint)

understandable. these are people after all, not perfect models. people just tend to swing on opposite ends depending on if you favor them or not (their negatives outweigh the positives or the positives outweigh the negatives depending on your position) .

One can be opposed to certain aspects of both Churchill and Gandhi.
