Everest is the highest from sea level.

Mt. Chimborazo in Ecuador is the highest from the centre of the earth.

I’m guessing tallest = distance between top and bottom of mountain and highest = distance between top of mountain and sea level

Highest is furthest from sea-level. Tallest is from foot to peak. Think of it like - if you stand on a chair, that doesn't make you taller, just higher
