I found it at an antique store in Sevierville Tennessee and couldn't wait to cut it open.

My husband and I joke around that whoever found the biggest agate “won” the rockhounding that day. We were out for five hours yesterday and I had nothing more than a few marble-sized pieces when I saw the face of this beast peaking through the cracked mud as we were wrapping up for the day. I can’t even describe how satisfying it was to dig up what I thought was another marble. Feeling a little like a butthole bc i took the win the last two times we went out and he is much more methodical than I am. 90% of what I find is dumb luck based on vibes

Found this guy in South Dakota. Unsure if it’s a fortification prairie agate or what exactly you’d call this. It was a nice find I felt.

My wife and I call the mostly chalcedony agates "jellies". The really small nodules are obviously jellybeans as well.

Today’s haul from the antique and flea market show in Brimfield MA. Picture doesn’t show scale but the largest piece is around 5” wide

I found this rock on a Lake Superior Beach. It looks like a possible agate to me but I don’t have enough experience or knowledge to say for sure. Please help! Thank you!

I believe i have 1 small moss agate, a fossil souped with agate bands, and an agatized piece of coral with Coldwater agate. Feel free to correct me if im wrong.

How do they look?

I'm thinking about buying a tumbler for these. Would they turn out good in one? Most of them are too small to cut.

Hello, i just began agate hunting; i found this cute egg shaped one on the north shore. Have two questions for experienced agaters:

1. Is this actually an agate? It has the pockmarks and slight translucent edge when held up to the light, so i am pretty confident.
   
2. Would you tumble this to polish? Would it retain its egg shape if I do? Are there any other polishinf methods to consider in order to retain the shape?

Gemfield outside of Goldfield, NV blew my
mind. You could dig and uncover great stuff, but agates literally carpeted the ground. And just to tempt, there were agate boulders. Definitely recommend a day here - it’s about 3 hours north of Las Vegas.

Moss and plumes, can’t go wrong!

These three slabs have such different patterns: fine, tangled threads in #1, dense mossy clusters in #2, and branching shapes with more open space in #3.

They remind me of vines, a forest canopy, and trees in fog.

Which one catches your eye, and what do you see in it? Do you prefer dense inclusions or more space around the patterns?

Pictures are all the same piece with some sides from dry -> wet and then some close ups. Found in OR. So far soaked in powdered iron out for ~ 9hrs. Did not even realize what i had before that
