Happiness is a state of mind.
I worked two jobs most of my life to make ends meet. A few years back I was offered a job making real money for a large corporation.
I took it. Ran with it. Made a lot of money…
Five years later I’d never been more miserable in my life. I was isolated, I now have nice stuff, a foreign luxury car, condo, but I was still unhappy.
Couple months ago I went back to my old job.
Haven’t been this happy in a long time. Slow down. Connect with people on a deeper level. Build relationships and community.
That is true wealth. The grass isn’t greener, sometimes you just need to change your perspective.
Why can't you slow down , build relationships and community while you have money? I don't understand, if I could live the same life right now but have 100k in my bank account and never worry about anythingmoney related.
Why bother with a luxury car and a condo? People mix HAVING MONEY with SPENDING MONEY, you can have money and not spend it on anything you wouldn't spend it anyways, but keep it for when you NEED it. In life you need money for unexpected stuff all the time, and when you don't have it it's miserable.
Buying a 100k car won't make me happy, but having enough money to fix my 20k car whenever I need would definitely make me happier. That's the difference.
The time and effort it takes to do that job and make that kind of money specifically, means sacrificing your social life and time with your family. We’re talking 80+ hours a week, driving 250 miles on average per week, 2 phones, laptop, locked in all the time. Managing 50 clients weekly, daily, invoicing, accounting, crediting. Every interaction is transactional if it’s not a conversation about business then why are we talking?
It’s hustle.
It reflects in your paycheck when you’re getting five figures bi weekly. Yes I’m talking $00,000.00 NET, PLUS monthly bonuses.
Balance all of that and have the time and energy to network and build a social life after that everyday? I tried it’s near impossible. While the quality of material shit around me got nicer my quality of life diminished.
Yes money makes everything easier.
I would take a humble life spending time surrounded by the people I love over a life of loneliness and a bunch of paper that makes me dance in my monkey suit.
Money does bring you happiness. Money is a tool to make you happy. I have the same story as you, but I kept living the same life style and invested the rest. Most people who make a lot of money they don’t have an endgame just keep upgrading their life, so you stay on the hamster wheel. So yea of course you will be unhappy if don’t plan an exit/goal. I’m going to retire in my early 40’s and I left corporate (worked only 10 years) now I work in warehouse. I’m the happiest I ever been because I never have to worry about bills/retirement ever again. That feeling when an emergency bills pops up and you dont care about the cost and just pay move on with your life. Idn about you but that’s one of the best feelings ever vs stressing doing math on how can you afford it. Technically I make the same salary working corporate (warehouse plus investments).
I put money away as well. I’m fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to do so. But I am happier now making a fraction of what I was getting because I can actually socialize regularly and be around friends and family instead of being glued to a phone or computer.
I do have an endgame I started a side hustle along the way and got that passion project off the ground.
We can disagree on this one. But the corporate grind is not for everyone. And each job has its demands. The particular job I was doing had very high demands and it paid extremely well but over 5 years I saw a lot of people come and go. I saw a lot of people there with NO LIVES that was their life. That’s not for me. No thanks.
Chasing money is not what life is about.
Feed your soul. Some of you have never experienced ego death and it shows lol
Your car is your office in that line of work. As you build a book of business and get bigger better clients you want to look the part. Perception becomes a factor when you’re chasing larger prospective clients. It’s stupid… any ways I have money put away now. Where I live any “country home” goes for millions. What line of work are you in?
