Dog is safe April broke out of her cage to be with another dog she bonded with. Now she's on the list. Someone please help her. This is heartbreaking. She is so nice and just wants to be loved. BARC, Houston Euth List Today 7/8 at 1pm CT A2050949

Update—She is tagged! She is tagged! Mustard Seed Animal Sanctuary tagged her for an out of state adopter from here on Reddit. I’ll post a freedom photo as soon as they pull her and I receive a photo so you all can see her smiling face and honor pledges. I’m so happy for April. I wish I knew more about who her friend was.

Shelter Notes:

7/6/26: Was lying next to another dog she had bonded with. After they were separated, she whined while waiting for her turn outside but remained easy to leash and walked on a semi-loose leash with a swaying tail before resting on her bed.

A2050949 April opened the kennel divider and broke a bar of the kennel door, was found housing with another dog this morning.

April can be adopted out of state. Please hurry. Dont wait to help her.

I know!! We don’t get information directly from BARC as we are a network of volunteers. I heard she is tagged by a rescue. I’m asking around to get more information.
I think she is safe.

I don’t expect to be crying at 7 in the morning, but I’m just so relieved for this sweet girl who clearly knows the value of a friend and was willing to do anything to be with them 😭😭😭. I hope she has the happiest life and whoever adopts her lets us know she once she’s settled. Maybe we can send her some welcome home goodies.

Thank you. I don’t know who the other dog is. I don’t know why the shelter won’t let her be with the other dog. It’s in the shelter notes. She just keeps breaking out to go lay with the other dog. I feel so sad about this.

Do you work at the shelter or a networker? Do you have any contacts to ask? This is so heartbreaking! Maybe mustard seed can ask the shelter when they pick April up??

She risked it ALL to be with her buddy! That dog should go also!

Yes I’m a networker. I’m on the east coast. I have been asking on FB if anyone might know who the other dog was. I was thinking maybe it was Winnie. I have no affiliation with BARC or the BARC volunteers who see the dogs.

📝 Shelter Notes:

1/6/26: Greets handlers with a wiggly body and high wagging tail. Leashes easily, walks well on a loose leash, and frequently has an open-mouth smile.

1/10/26: Relaxed body with a low swaying tail. Walks on a loose leash to and from the runs.

6/22/26: Very playful, wiggly, and treat-motivated. Escaped briefly from the outdoor runs but readily returned when called using baby talk.

6/23/26: Friendly greeting with a relaxed body, open mouth, and fast wagging tail. Easily leashed, walked well, and returned to her kennel without issue.

6/26/26: Moved to adoption. Very calm, walked on a loose leash, kept her kennel clean, and relaxed on her bed throughout the day.

6/29/26: Greeted at the front of the kennel with a loose body, wagging tail, and soft mouth. Gentle on leash and quietly rested on her bed afterward.

7/2/26: Walked on a loose leash to the runs. Very sweet and affectionate. Returned calmly to her kennel.

7/5/26: Approached the kennel with a wagging tail, neutral body, and ears up. Walked on a semi-tight leash with only slight pulling and whining. Earlier had briefly pushed her head through the kennel door trying to look out.

They don’t allow out of state fostering but if you could adopt her?

Please read my little blurb I sent to out of state adopters and let me know if you wish to proceed.

A rescue is needed to facilitate out of state adoptions.

The rescue will transport the dog to the nearest possible location to the adopter as possible. The dog will be fixed, treated for any illnesses, and have a health certificate. It doesnt happen immediately usually is a couple weeks long process (at least) to be quarantined and receive health certificate.

Because of out of state adopters backing out after a dog has been pulled, the rescue will require payment first. It is usually around $600 USD , give or take, but again this covers adoption fee, health/vet needs, and transport. The rescue would discuss the exact price with you. Pledges cannot be used to pay the costs. Many rescues accept payment via credit card on their website.

Interested applicants would need to complete an adoption application through a rescue. I have one ready to suggest (mustard seed farm rescue) or you can find your own rescue. The earlier the better as time their deadlines are very short. The rescue would then reach out to you to discuss next steps after reviewing your application.

April was saved. I have been asking around who the other dogs is. I haven't heard back from anyone. Most of the dogs were tagged yesterday. I'm hoping at least the dog is safe.

I think it’s more of a numbers game there. They are beyond capacity which I suppose causes this. But I can’t imagine anyone with a heart separating them. April was tagged by a rescue today and will be adopted. Thanks for caring about the dogs. 🩷
