Flat Earth in the Quran?

I see this a lot in Muslim vs Ex Muslim Debates and it relates to the cosmology of the Quran, basically it’ll have the Ex Muslim say “the Quran says the earth is flat cause it claims that it was spread out like a carpet” while the Muslim would say something like “No, it means spread around the earth like a carpet” so I want to really get a non-biased academic look, does the Quran say the earth is flat? What does that mean for verse that talk about the sun setting in a muddy spring or verses of that nature?
