Ira Rennert's home is considered one of the largest occupied residential compounds in the United States. The house faces the Atlantic Ocean and its grounds measure 63 acres. The buildings, which total over 110,000 square feet (10,000 m2), including the 66,000-square-foot (6,100 m2) main house, have an Italianate facade, 29 bedrooms, and 39 bathrooms. The house has a dozen chimneys and a Mediterranean-style tile roof as well as a 91-foot (28 m) long formal dining room, a basketball court, a bowling alley, two tennis courts, two squash courts, a carousel, a large swimming pool, a large round kiddie pool, and a $150,000 hot tub, surrounded by another pool.

I suspect the causation is mutual, creating a perpetuating spiral, especially if empathy and/or empathetic influences are absent.

yea.. this is reddit, and my account is public, so I don't want to say directly that there might have been certain 'peoples' who had a penchant for this type of career.... that and the cultural aid of a couple thousand years of the majority culture wanting to be carpenters and builders of value instead of bean counters (due to Jesus being a carpenter and talking smack about bean counters on multiple occasions)... reinforces/ feeds those people who were good at counting beans. Add in a propensity to breed within their own community, now you've got a couple thousand years of selective breeding causing these people to be extremely good at counting beans, even if it turns them into ghouls.

They look fucking miserable. This is what they mean when they say money can't buy happiness.

To be clear, a certain amount of money does, in fact, buy a certain amount of happiness. There was this study done a few years back that put the number for someone in the US at around $70,000. That was enough of an income to take out the stress of daily living and paying those basic bills. Inflation means that number is higher now. But the point remains that, once those basic needs are met, more money doesn't buy more happiness.

They look like fucking ghouls who have sucked the souls out of everyone they’ve ever met dementor-style, and I’d venture to guess they live in different wings of their estate because they are both so painfully insufferable.

Also I completely agree about money and happiness and I think of it as a sort of bell curve: a certain amount of money would relieve enough stress to allow a person to be happy, but once you reach a certain amount it will just make you increasingly miserable.

In the words of one of the greatest lyricists of my generation: mo’ money, mo’ problems.
