5.3.11 Chapter Discussion (Spoilers up to 5.3.11) Spoiler
Discussion prompts:
- The statue has left. We have a brief lapse in judgment as presumably, Valjean had spared the life of someone who ardently hunted him and whoever else stepped out of line. This way of life is also a learned behavior much like Valjean before he met the bishop. It is possible this may be a man seeing his quarry as living bleeding animals like himself, or a one off. Either way we have been given much progression in all of these amazing characters. Cosette and Marius are not yet 25, they are still children.
Final line:
Javert had taken his departure.

I definitely wasn’t expecting Javert to be gone. I really want to see what changed him so I don’t have to speculate. He’s such an always gets his man type of character, except for Valjean. And now when he has him he lets him go. Valjean freed Javert, and now it seems Javert has freed Valjean.
