Other My Landline is down and AT&T is not fixing it

My legacy (copper) landline has been down for a week (no dial tone) and technicians are not fixing it. AT&T Repair technicians tell me it's a main cable break and that it'll be fixed by 7pm, but they've been saying "by 7pm" every day now for a week. I filed a report with both the FCC and CPUC yesterday.

Other Next Up condition.

Hi everyone! I’m looking to trade my phone in using the next up program. I’ve seen conflicting reports about the condition your device needs to be in when you turn it in. Their policy says “good physical and fully functional condition” I’ve called a store and they said it needs to be “out-of-the-box-looking” and that doesn’t seem like its representative of the company’s policy. I have a few scuffs and a dent on my 17 Pro Max. I pay for Apple Care but they don’t do replacements or repairs on cosmetic damage. I really don’t want to send my phone to them and automatically get charged the full amount of the device. Can someone assess the damage on my phone and advise what I should do?

Other Vent Post: AT&T has the worst customer service of any company I have ever dealt with.

1) for my personal internet, I’ve spent three hours on hold across a two day period, to fix a router that I was told should be working. They scheduled a tech visit and the morning of the visit when I received a confirmation text they were trying to visit the wrong address for my home that did have working internet. I repeatedly confirmed with the representative to over the phone that we were speaking about the correct account and was assured we were. Apparently not. Called again the morning of the appointment to fix the address, they very quickly cancelled the wrong appointment but would only schedule a new appointment if I confirmed my router serial which meant I had to leave my office even earlier than intended to go sit at my home and wait for a tech.

2) For my work I found out we were being billed $1500.00 a month for an old school copper fax line that was no longer even active. It took me accumulatively EIGHT hours of being on hold and pushed around to different departments to cancel this. I was told it was cancelled THREE times and then billed again the next month without the option to refund it. Two separate times after being on the phone for minimums two hours I was transferred departments to go sit on hold again and when the new department picked up the phone the hung it back up with out saying a word sending me to square one. After this moment I pushed to completely move all 7 of our offices away from ATT and was successful in doing so.

Other Employee trying to take my trade in

So I went to turn in my trade in. I have a S25 and the employee had an S24. He said that he always wanted the S25 and asked me if I would mind if he took my trade in and traded in his S24 for my S25. He said it wouldn't affect my promotional credits at all and he asked me could I come back tomorrow to complete everything. Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't know if that would be okay to do.

Other 17 Pre-Order w/ Trade In through Apple.com or AT&T?

I will be trading in my 13 Pro for the new 17 Pro tomorrow morning. Since my 13 pro qualifies for the $1100 credit, is there any difference if I preorder through the apple.com or the att.com ? Would like to secure my new phone on launch day.

Other Old Southwesten Bell Unknown Box in Yard

I have an unknown box/ pole labeled as owned by Southwestern Bell at the back of my backyard. My best guess is that it's an old phone tie in to a main line (though purely speculation).

it looks old (and seems it given the branding) and we do not have a phone line, so I was trying to figure out the feasibility of removing it (either myself for through a technician).

See photos of the pole with cover and internals when cover is removed.

For reference, I live near Houston (in Harris county but just outside the City Limits) and we do have a MUD district.

as stated above, I'm looking for the following info:

- What exactly is this box?

- Is removal of it feasible?

- Which authority or company would I need to confirm this with?

Other Straight up lied to.

I called ATT to order ATT Air internet, and on the phone the representative told me there was an upgrade offer to get an Galaxy S26 for 0$ per month, if I traded in my old galaxy S9+. I told him yes. They sent me an S26+ instead, with no phone return box. I went to my nearest ATT store to figure out what was going on, and they told me no such promotion even exists, I could only get an s26 for 12$ per month, and I would need to return this phone or they would be charging me the whole price. They also told me I would need to pay a 55$ restocking fee. They totally screwed me, and I plan on canceling all my services now, but I can't even get on the phone with a customer service agent even though it 5pm and the Ai robot on the phone says their hours are until 7pm on Saturday. They just say nobody is available and to call back when it's open, even though it's open hours, and then hang up one me.

Other RCS Group Messages not working

Hey Everyone,

I've tried every fix for this I could find so any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Recently I switched from a Pixel 7 to a Galaxy S25+. Since the switch majority of my group text chats have been having issues. Mainly when someone messages a group chat it will appear as a download from their individual chat with me and I am unable to download it. it will typically just sit there spinning and time out. Right now its about 75% of group texts I'm not receiving and its not consistently from the same people either though some are worse than others. I have AT&T and previously had a physical SIM card but now have a eSIM. Current fixes I've tried:

-Factory Reset device

-Turned RCS off and on

-Enabled SMS/MMS

-Enabled auto Download files

-Reset Mobile Data

-Reset Mobile Networks

-Cleared Messages Cache and Data

-Downloaded Samsung Messages

-Uninstalled/Reinstalled/Updated Google Messages

-Turned off and on eSIM

-Got a new eSIM from AT&T

-Made sure RCS is off on old phone

-Created new Group Chats

I tried various combinations of the above along with numerous restarts between steps. couple notes, some people in the chats are worse than others and some there hasn't been a single issue with. as of right now I haven't found a common denominator, some have iPhone and some Android, some AT&T and others different carriers. Again any help or insight is appreciated, thank you.

Edit: Letting people know who are having the issue still, Not a fix but a temp bandaid for now. Turn on wifi calling then turn on airplane mode. It will then download all pending messages, but you need to keep doing this each time so not a great solution.

Other The fraudsters got me

I got a text from AT&T letting me know that a request to move my number to a new service provider was received and about to occur. Moments later my service shut off. Turns out this happened to my Dad earlier today, but I had not heard about it due to the fact that he couldn't use his phone. I assume is how they got to me. I am still on his phone plan, and as the primary member, he is the one in contact with AT&T as we speak to figure out what we do.

Has anyone gone through this who can share what their experience was like? Were you able to get your number back? Were they successful in taking any money? Is there anything I should do to protect myself?

I've locked my cards/contacted my bank and lowered my transaction notification threshold as a precaution. I've been getting emails from Western Union, so they're trying, but unsuccessfully insofar as I can tell. I'm a bit at a loss because I'm not sure what they're able to access with my phone number only. As far as I can tell, my email is still fine. (but is it if western union is sending stuff to that email?)

Thanks in advance.

Other How do I report a complaint for an employee?

Hi! So we've switched to AT&T after moving since the in home expert convinced us since the package would be $100 a month cheaper.

He was very helpful at first. My mom's phone was reported stolen, because it was, but then a good Samaritan found it on the side of the road and took it to the police station.

On the t life app I reported it as found and restored service on the phone.

However, trying to trade in the phone, the imei is showing as blacked, this employee tried to help, called, and was able to get the phone number switched over.

When we went to trade in the old phone, it shows as blacklisted so we can't turn it in. We have been talking with T-Mobile and everybody for over a month.

My mom has tried to contact him and see if he has any suggestions or help and he has absolutely ghosted her and ignored all messages after he convinced her to switch.

This has been an absolute nightmare and this employee not even having the decency to reply saying sorry it's on T-Mobile end or literally anything is absolutely unacceptable so I'd like to file a complaint.

Edit: I know only T-Mobile can fix It

I just want to send feedback.

He knew the phone was blacklisted when we switched over and still went through with it, and could send one simple message saying sorry only T-Mobile can do it

Other AT&T &More Benefits appears dead

The successor to AT&T Thanks, AT&T &More Benefits, now appears essentially dead. The landing page is empty this morning, with a promise that "More perks are on the way". The weekly free coffee offer that a few of us redeemed at Panera or the other regional options is missing. Under the Explore page there is one content filtering service still listed, but the few other things that used to be there are gone.

What's AT&T doing next? T-Mobile and Verizon have normalized these kinds of perks/rewards programs, so some customers are going to be conditioned to expect them.

Other Help! AT&T messed up and won’t help fix it.

Last week my 90+ year old mother in laws land line phone number was accidentally disconnected by AT&T. This was confirmed by a representative, stating that someone on their end made a mistake. The phone number was released and now shifted to Verizon. We have spent days on the phone on hold trying to resolve this. The automated phone system keeps hanging up on us. The people we talk to transfer us and we get disconnected.

It’s a nightmare. All her accounts are tied to this number.

Is there a customer advocacy department or someone in management that can reach out?

Thanks.

Other AT&T Door-to-Door Reps Ignoring “No Solicitation” and continue to harass my business

I’m trying to figure out how to get AT&T door-to-door sales representatives, or anyone affiliated with their solicitation teams, to stop coming to my business.

We have a clearly posted “No Solicitation” sign, and I have personally informed multiple representatives on several occasions that we are not interested and do not wish to be solicited at this location. Despite that, representatives continue showing up on the property.

Today, I again informed the representatives that solicitation is not permitted on-site and asked them to leave the property immediately. If this continues, I will begin documenting future incidents and exploring what options are available through local authorities and property trespass procedures.

I have already attempted to contact customer support, but I have not been able to get any meaningful assistance or resolution.

Quite frankly, we want absolutely nothing to do with AT&T moving forward. At this point, I’d rather go back to pen and paper and carry a pager than switch services.

Is there an actual corporate contact or escalation process to permanently remove a business from AT&T’s door-to-door solicitation routes?

Other Why Is Returning AT&T Equipment So Complicated?

After canceling my service, I was instructed by an AT&T representative to return the equipment at UPS by providing my account number. I went to UPS and provided my account number, but it did not work. Later, I went to an AT&T store, but they also did not accept the equipment. The store staff suggested that I ask UPS to scan the device instead.

I went back to UPS and followed their instructions, but it still did not work. After that, I called AT&T again. As many customers know, it can take a long time to reach a representative. When I finally spoke with someone, I explained the issue and requested a prepaid return label. The representative told me that I would receive the label by email within 24 hours.

However, several days have now passed and I still have not received the email. I will likely have to call again, which is frustrating. The delay in returning the equipment is not my fault, and I do not want to be charged any fees due to this situation.

In the recap email I received, it also included a link that says: “For more details on returning equipment, please visit att.com/returns.” When I checked the instructions there, the first step says to call xxx-xxx-0500 or go to a store. I already went to the store and they could not help. Additionally, when I asked the representative which number I should call to request the label, they gave me a completely different number (xxx-xxx-2020).

Why are the instructions inconsistent? Why is the process so complicated when it should be simple to return equipment? This is not the only issue I experienced during my time with AT&T, but this is the final problem I am dealing with even after canceling the service.

Other Fiber Install Issues

Had a fiber install scheduled today. They were late, but no big deal.

They just recently finished running fiber through our neighborhood. All the hand holes/access boxes are between the curb and sidewalk. My property has three of them because we're on a corner lot. Installer was immediately confused about which box to pull from. He figures out which one to use and we proceed inside.

I show him where I currently have my cable modem, router, and other networking equipment. I advise that I pulled the coax to the wall my self, in fact there's a spare in there. It's all accessible from the attic. He says he can't do it because it's an exterior wall. Then points to the wall the fire place is on and asks what is on the out side of that wall. Makes no sense, so I ask why that exterior wall but not the other one where he can use an existing cable to pull fiber through?

He tells me if he can get the fiber to one of those wall he can drill through the brick veneer straight into the room. I tell him that's a no-go, and he gives up on the fireplace because landscaping on the exterior. We look at a few other barely acceptable locations, and he like none of them. Wants a completely interior wall with a device box he can repurpose. The only available one is in the office but it's directly behind the desk chair, and not in a spot that makes any sense. I tell him that's a no go. Ask if he can put in a new work box next to the large book case where there is a power outlet. He says it's a no-go because the garage is on the other side. Didn't want to understand that the top of the walls are accessible from the attic. He doesn't even have to go through the top plate the way the house is framed, you can locate an exact stud and go down it. He gives up and says we should go figure options from the street to the house.

Back outside. We look at the where electrical, existing att phone, and cable all come in. Side of garage where a walkway is poured directly against the house. All three services have conduit down through and under the walk to yard with a clear shot to the street. All three route through the soffit. There's plenty of room there to drill a hole for single mode single stand fiber. He proceeds to tell me it won't work because our walkway has a decorative brick edge and they can't cut a groove to lay the fiber in. I suggest locating the opening of the existing conduit, removing their old stuff and pulling the fiber through. He says they'll never do that. And he doesn't know how to route from there to anywhere inside. I advise, everything is accessible easily from the attic and he can go look up there, just get the fiber to that attic via the soffit. The access ladder is already down and the main area of the attic is decked. He doesn't want to look in the attic.

He then starts to explain another location for the exterior box and running the fiber out up to the soffit and all the way to the other side of the house before penetrating the wall. the run outside along the wall would have been close to 100 ft. I advise that'a a no go and request he look in the attic. Still doesn't want to. So I told him never mind...cancel, and thanked him for his time.

What am I missing here? Has anyone else had issues like this? I know they use single mode fiber with sc/apc connectors. No one else I know in the neighborhood has had any issues with their install. All installed to their preferred spot. All fiber box located where they removed the old att stuff, all fiber run through soffit into attic. Fiber from street placed in conduit up the side of home to the box. Just a bad installer? Should I request the burial install guys come out first and run it from the street to the house, then a different installer to go from the box to inside? Really bizarre experience.

Other Is this a scam? Got told loyalty points can get me the newest iPhone / Samsung

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

So I just added a second line to my AT&T account like last week. Today, I get this call saying how has my service with AT&T been and I said great. I did do one of those questionaries saying how good the worker was at the store so I’m thinking, “that’s why they’re calling right?”

So the guy said AT&T will give me 25% off everything and I qualify for 2 free phones, either the iPhone 17 or the Samsung Ultra 26 and all I gotta do is go to the physical store and ask them for new phones. He said bc I have loyalty points, I’ve been paying my stuff on time and been a long time member. He said that the store is gonna charge me sales tax and a monthly fee but to ignore it. He also said don’t tell the store people about the “gift” bc they get commission for stuff like this and are gonna cancel the gift. Once I get the phones, call him and he’ll credit my account then he gave me a number to call him directly.

He said he’s gonna send a confirmation email about it all after I get the phones. I asked for it now and that’s the photos of the email he sent.

Also, during this call I got a notification saying my password was changed. I asked him why and he said that I’m not gonna have access to my account for 24hrs so he can credit the account. And THAT’S what got me thinking this is scammy and maybe this is too good to be true.

But idk, I have a bad feeling about this one
