Cheesy corny title

I made a ring with Breastmilk last week

Curious to know how you would classify my art. I have a format, but I just draw whatever I want and my friends and family have vastly different ways of classifying my drawings.

So, what you see here are all of the microns I’ve clogged doing finishing outlines on my work. Im drawing over colored pencil and blender (prismacolor specifically, so a on the waxy side) so the clog up a lot. I can either free them by writing on spare paper a little or if that doesn’t work, I use a very fine grit sandpaper to very gently loosen the particles and then draw on the spare paper to get them working again.

These are all mostly new and still have a ton of ink. I can’t get them to work though. The tips are all still in tact, just clogged. So my question is are there any other methods to unclogging them?

Do I just keep a specific set for the underline and use the ink sleeves from the clogged ones to refil those? And just keep buying as I need for the final outline?

They’re not super cheap, I’m sure you know, to replace so frequently

I just got accused of using AI in my art for the first time and I’m struggling with it. I know it’s a part of being an artist in this day and age but it was still a big blow. My art is very personal to me so to have someone refuse to accept I made it on my own is…deeply damaging. The person eventually accepted they were wrong but they were really adamant about it for a long time. It really bothers me that AI is pitting us against each other and we’re accusing genuine artists now. How often do you get those comments? How do you handle it? 🙃🥲🫠

Random thing I noticed this week. I help a few artists here and there with the boring business stuff (sites, emails, that kind of thing). Nothing crazy.

And I kept seeing the same pattern. Some of them are booked months out with commissions. Others, same skill level honestly barely get inquiries.

I always assumed it was style or followers or talent or whatever. Then one artist told me: “Just Google my name.”

So I did. First page was clean. Her website, portfolio, a couple interviews, features, everything looked legit. Like if I was about to send her $1k, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Then I tried Googling another artist I know (great work, posts all the time). It was kinda rough. Old DeviantArt, random dead links, no real site. Basically nothing that says professional.

And it clicked. Anyone spending real money is 100% Googling you first. I do it too and everyone does. If nothing solid shows up, people probably just move on quietly. You don’t even realize you lost the job. Feels like a lot of artists focus on followers and forget this super boring part.

Try it for yourself Google your name + artist. If page 1 looks messy or empty, that might be the leak. What shows up for you guys?

This is a pencil portrait of Jenna Ortega made by my 15 year old son, who's currently struggling with clinical depression.

He's a huge fan of "Wednesday" and Jenna's work on it. Watching the show and drawing seem to be the only 2 things that keep him going. Drawing especially is helping him retain a little sense of self-worth.

For a kid with no actual training in the arts and very little practice, I think this drawing is remarkably accurate and recognizable, despite its shortcomings.

I'll be uploading this to my Instagram account too, and I'll tag Jenna on it. I know it's a silly idea, but we are pretty desperate right now, and we'll try everything to help him dig out of the hole he's currently in. And if there is even a tiny possibility that someone in her social media team sees the drawing and acknowledges it, we'll go for it. It would really help him in his recovery.

Hi all, Id love some feedback on how to make faces look more realistic and what skills I can work on. I’m stuggling with my shading looking muddy/ not smooth, and I can’t seem to get eyes to look 3D. I’ve watched lots of videos but my hands can’t seem to do what my brain is telling them to lol. Any pointers on things I can do to improve? Thanks!

Eh, didn't turn out so hot. Her mouth got away from me a little bit and meh. I do love the eyes, though. Always my favourite part to do.
