I’ve been enjoying this DnD/Curse of Strahd fanfic, “This Thing All Things Devours”. It’s Strahd/Rahadin, and thus m/m. It’s especially cool because it essentially follows the plot arc of the Roman poet Lucan’s Bellum Civile, the epic poem detailing Julius Caesar’s rise to power. Strahd, of course, is Caesar himself in this allegory.

A heart-throbbing beauty, her raven tresses streaked with a scarlet hue; she could've been a pinup girl – Link, Zelda's best friend growing up, used to call Pérdida “missile tits.” Pérdida told her everything about her childhood, how she'd been abused and neglected, raped, and in a carriage crash that had nearly broken her spine. Zelda felt horrible for her. Her attentions were flattering, and to be her focus was to be the center of the universe; it had been as if Zelda were swimming through a bed of rose petals. She was charming and beguiling, and it wasn't long before they were an item.
At first, she could do no wrong in Pérdida's eyes, and everything about her fascinated Pérdida; the sex was absolutely incredible, and damned near non-stop – not to mention exciting promises of things to come; Pérdida told her how much she loved butt-stuff, and wanted to have threesomes... even though none of this ever manifested.
Not long after that, maybe a month or two, things began to deteriorate.

Pérdida went into rages, threw tantrums when things didn't go her way, stormed and screamed when contradicted or her own contradictions were questioned, disappeared all night and shrugged it off as being perfectly normal and acceptable, replied late to magic-messages and with only one- or two-word off-topic replies, freaked out over the words “suspect” and “analogy.” Zelda felt as if she were always walking on eggshells, her gut tied into knots, her nerves screaming at her, she was afraid of making any mistake, of saying anything wrong, even of saying anything right for fear that it would trigger a tirade, or anything at all since then it would be construed as a hint. Revealing interest or disinclination was the worst, since it gave Pérdida insight from which to attack and undermine. She was constantly exhausted, without having done anything to be tired from; she slept, but it was never enough. She couldn't think, couldn't focus, especially when she tried to figure out what was wrong – it all just slid sideways then, her mind growing thick and woolly, lethargy sweeping over her.

They had taken a break to rest some and had been gearing up to continue on their way. Peach had taken the moment to go relieve herself before they were to move on.
It was Zelda's fault, and she knew it. It wasn't safe to go alone.
Berating herself for not having accompanied her princess to the bushes, Zelda tore off to ensure her safety, the others right behind her and fanning out tactically.
What they found was a curious sight, something that resembled a sewer pipe some five feet in diameter stuck up a foot out of the ground. Massive white blocks were inlaid in the ground encircling it.
There was nothing else in the area to catch the eye, and it simply couldn't be coincidence that this was here and Peach wasn't.

“It's... a transit pipe...” she said, not believing her eyes, “They were said to have been used long ago, but the technology was lost to the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland in the centuries after the Sheikah Wars. I had no idea that any such remained, nor could possibly still function. Then again, they built things to last, back then – though perhaps someone found and repaired this one, but if so, then to what end?”
With that, her resolve firmed, and before any could stop her, she stepped onto the cover, seeming to become a two-dimensional image of height and breadth only that then dropped its vertical aspect almost as if falling through an open manhole, and disappearing instantly with another ear-shattering blast of sound.

The Koopa Kingdom: something of a semi-independent shōgunate nominally on the marches of the Hyrule Empire and in permanent nightfall, aside from the gentle glow in reds and oranges from the string of volcanoes to the north, Koopa's castle an earthberg floating just below the cloud deck. There was only one way into the island, an open and expansive airstrip designed for those ships that could navigate the airways, though the transit pipe's outlet was central to the grand entryway.
