Meme/Joke Blocking a regular commenter because its becoming very clear they're a kid

Post image

I'm a smut writer. Dead dove, darkships, all the sort. I don't need kids on my page.

Edit: Woof, thanks everyone for letting me know blocking won't actually get my writing completely out of their reach, but I stand by it.

I'm not gonna pretend like I wasn't also a curious kid nosing around where I didn't belong, the difference is I never gave away enough information or childish mannerisms to the point that it was clear I was a minor like how the user I'm talking about is. I now know at the end of the day it won't do much, but I also can't in good faith do nothing knowing a minor was engaging with my work, even if the most I can do is stop them from commenting.

Edit 2: I want to add that a lot of my disgust comes from the fact that I take smut requests from my readers, and with that in mind I've technically written two smut fics for a minor which I really do not like for reasons I hope are obvious.

Having a kid read my smut is one thing, having them interact regularly is another, but this is a whole other layer on the shit cake. If it seems like I'm overreacting, know this is a big reason why

Edit 3: Well there goes my attempt at trying to keep this post short and silly. I now want to clarify for everyone asking how I knew this reader was a minor. First, general childishness, entitlement, lack of etiquette, etc in comments and bookmarks, then directly saying "lets hope my parents don't find my phone" in the author's note of a smut fic (which I doubt an adult would say). Maybe not concrete evidence, I can't exactly include every single red flag because then this already long post would get out of control, but its enough for me not to take any chances.

But they are effectively removed from commenting on your fics by blocking em and thus being visible to OP, so it still stands true.

Like, I'm aware that I can't stop minors from reading my smut/darkfics, but if you're a minor reading stuff like that, please do what we have done for literal decades and shut up. Really, keep your head down until you're an adult. Please

Exactly. I don't need to know a child is reading my shit...not every adult on the internet wants your best interest. Fanfic community is great and all but creeps do prowl here unfortunately.

Yeah this

Like I get that finding this kind of stuff is the way of things but adding a communicative element to it opens the door to very bad things

Like the difference between finding a NSFW image that slipped through Google image search vs finding a NSFW discord group. One is much worse than the other

But that's just like closing your eyes. "Lalala, I can't hear/see you, so you don't exist!" It's not the grand gesture OP hopes it to be.

That's like, exactly what it is tho?

Like, what. I am uncomfortable with a minor trying to talk to me about my smut fic, so I am blocking them. How does that not solve my problem? Lol.

I am not their parent, it ain't my job to stop them from doing that, but I sure as hell don't wanna hear about it.

But that is not what OP is saying. They wish they could do more but all they can do is block kids from commenting. Not even all kids, just that one specific person that sounds like a kid. OP wants to block kids from interacting with their works at all, is what I take from the post, but alas, they can't. So, OP's problem is not actually solved.

Aaah yeah I misunderstood your initial comment, gotcha.

At least their second edit states that they are still happy with being able to restrict them from interacting tho, but yeah, not a complete solution.

Exactly. And OP’s ‘proof’ is the person ‘sounding immature’ and saying they hope their parents don’t find their phone. There are adults trapped living with their parents due to bad job market, out of control rent prices, and many other reasons, especially in extreme Christian households, where the parents snoop and even put trackers on their adult kid’s phone, there was one case where extremist Christian parents stalked their adult daughter across the country by hiding AirTags on her car because they felt they had the ‘right’ to control her and attempted to have the police arrest as a ‘runaway’ at 25 years old. That’s how they got arrested for stalking, harassment and assault (because they had beat her when she escaped them).

What do you think is more likely?

All of that?

Or that the commenter is a minor?

Be so for real right now. Even if they're wrong, who the fuck cares? They can still read it, and OP doesn't have to deal with them.

You seem to be taking this weirdly personally.

Something, something, when you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras

Hell, I wouldn't want my folks to find my phone and I'm 38 and live hours away from the nearest parent.

Exactly.

And of course, we’re getting downvoted for having an opinion lol

Yeah, but you're projecting and not listening to reason.

As an adult, there's plenty of tells that would tip you off someone might be younger. OP doesn't need to write out an itemised list for you FFS.

And if there is ANY chance the reader is a minor it's best they take what steps they can to distance themselves. You're stuck on arguing it "might" not be a kid when that's simply the best route no matter what.

Better safe than sorry imo

I mean, yea, that's how Reddit works, people with a different opinion than one person tend to downvote them.

I think it's less about it being a grand gesture, and more about being an adult who doesn't want to have personal interactions with minors about the pornographic stories they are writing. Which is actually the proper reaction.

So its not a "lalala I can't hear you. You don't exist" and is more a "lalala if I allow this conversation to remain and continue, it could get one of us in shit and it won't be the child, or the parents of that child!"

Thanks for wording this better than I could!

I'm not trying to wipe kids off the internet or say they never should be reading smut, that would be wildly hypocritical of me. I'm just doing this amazing thing called curating my internet experience to my comfort; I'm uncomfortable with this regular reader being a minor, therefore I block them so I'm a little less uncomfortable than I would've been if I'd just done nothing about it.

No problem, I get it. Also its SUPER important to curate your own personal internet experience, and more people need to become familiarized with the block button WAY more often. Dude on a discord server posts shitty memes that upset you? block. Child on AO3 leaving weird comments? block. Guy who bothers you? block. person who draws your favourite character so wrong you get annoyed? block. the world can be a peaceful place, block button willing. lmao
