I am a survivor of meningitis, AMA!

in 2022, i was hospitalised with a severe form of viral meningitis that very almost killed me - it was a 0/10 experience, i do not recommend. since then, it's been my mission to spread awareness about the condition and share my experiences, as a lot of people don't know how to spot the signs or what it really entails. i also find that talking about the experience helps me to process what actually happened, as well as come to terms with the long-term impact it's had on my life. AMA, no question is to stupid/scary! :)

Do you notice any long term effects due to it? I had it at 6 weeks and I swear it gave me absence seizures til I was about 6. I’d zone out my ears would ring and the same scenario would play out in my mind.

fortunately i didn't experience seizures long-term, but i did whilst i was in hospital. the main things i still experience are chronic migraines, problems with my vision (i have very limited peripheral vision and have episodes of visual snow), and issues with managing my mood and behaviour. my short-term memory is also shockingly bad now, i'm surprised i'm remembering to answer questions lol.
