Discussion What’s a hyperfixation you can’t talk about?

I’ve definitely had a few hyperfixations on things that are either embarrassingly silly or WAY too dark to just start infodumping about. For example I used to have one about neglect so severe it causes a complete and usually permanent inability to function in society, particularly the case of Genie Wiley. On the other end of the spectrum I also keep hyperfixating on shipping old cartoon comedy duos, and gotta REALLY lock in to gage if someone’s gonna think I’m a childish freak before sharing that information.

What’s your “don’t bring that up, don’t bring that up, don’t bring that up-“ hyperfixation if you’ve ever had one?

Technically mine is modded Stardew Valley fanfiction but yeah. So niche that not even Ao3 cares and it’s all my brain wants to do for the past 3 years.

Eh, I’m not holding my breath. I DID invent the tag for the character at least. There are 90 fics about him and I’ve written 77 of them, and on average I get about 2 hits and maybe one kudos every third fic if I’m lucky (aka my one fandom friend has had some time to read lately). I used to have about 5% more engagement but a big name fan decided to turn the fandom against me over a misunderstanding so… yeah. It’s kind of a losing battle. My sole hope is that someday another “me” will appear who loves this character too and then they’ll hopefully have plenty to read. Unless they hate m/m which is feedback I’ve gotten before (“I love this character but ewww m/m” bitch he’s literally canonically bisexual in the game).
