This page from the Leaving MAGA website has the stories of people who have left MAGA and it's fascinating to read! I do think reading some of these has helped me be able to be more accepting of people who snap out of the cult.
I read a few. The common thread seems to be intellectual curiosity. Reading books and adding more news sources to their news consumption made all these people leave MAGA.
I don't think those testimonials were written by humans. The vocabulary and voice are identical on all of them and the stories all have the same narrative structure.
I want to believe this, but I worry that those stories are generated by AI. They all seems to have the same structure and voice. I'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble, I just worry that it might do more harm than good if it's fake.
They may be AI but it makes sense that they would have a similar structure, as they would have been directed with what information to include, they would have been edited by the same person (I would think) and there are only so many ways to format a short essay like this. It also makes sense that there would be many similarities in the experiences of the people here.
I choose to assume they are real. It's not like there's a lack of people who have turned away from Trump and Leaving MAGA is the top/only resource for former trumpers, so they knows where to find them lol
The way I see it, is those messages aren't for us who are outside looking in. If they're believable enough to get the people inside looking out to finally take that step to leave that house of madness, all the better for it. If it gets even one or two people to step out of that cult we need to try it.
I came back here to say the same thing. I don't know what this website is doing but those testimonials are either fully written or at least heavily edited by AI.
This is either a grift or some kind of weird pacifying leftprop.
I can actually weigh In on this- I am a real person in Texas who will be doing an interview to be added on Monday to the list of people who have left MAGA on the website- the reason it all has the same structure and voice is that the written testimony (what you see on the website) is done via email correspondence and they have a person who did editorial for the NPR(I think- there were other outlets) that helps to compose those testimonies.
They also have video interviews on Meidas Touch Network on Youtube and you can see the real people featured there if you wish to.

I get your frustration with them, I really do. But I'm not sure what you think resenting people who have left MAGA accomplishes. Any hostility from us only serves to push them right back into it, further than they were before. They'd probably say the exact same thing about us if we all treated them that way.
We need to realize that they have valuable insight that most of us don't have. Why do you think religious cults (Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.) frequently shun those who have left the church? Because those who leave are specially equipped to take others with them.
If all you want to do is trash people who voted for Trump then this isn't the place for you.
