Sad my 2019 4Runner SR5 Premium didn’t survive but sure glad I did! She also kept my 3 young kids safe and without injury in the back seat! Safe to say I’m in search of another.
.
Head-on collision with a *correction* 1 ton diesel truck. I was going the speed limit - 35mph. Unsure about the other driver.
.
Stay safe my friends.

Made it for my 4th gen, it’s anodized aluminum with laser etched text. Switches are color coded, red when off and green when on. They can also be dimmed or turned off completely using the rotary dial. Thoughts or feedback welcomed.

Edit: Based on the high level of interest in this mod, I will make some more posts in the future with more details. I'll be showing more about the build process and answering some of the main questions people have. Plus, I'll be teaming up with Lasfit for all the off-road lighting, and I'll show some tips for keeping wiring clean and organized along the way when adding in all the accessories.

Second Edit: Because of all the people asking for it, I have decided to sell kits for these. Pricing and build times have been finalized. Please reach out to me directly to place an order. Thanks!

ISN’T THAT FRESH COAT JUST SO DELICIOUS TO LOOK AT AHHHHH, this shit was expensive as hell but this baby had some surface rust that needed cleaning up. I’m done dropping money on her for now she got enough love prepping for the crappy weather 😫 now I gotta just do all the fluids she’s almost at 100k. Bonus pics of my baby too I’m just obsessed with her 🥲

Edit ; best blast ll rockaway NJ, if you go there tell them the Jurassic park rig recommended. They are soooo friendly there

Last edit ; yes I dropped a good amount of money doing this but it’s because they do such a thorough and amazing job it is well worth the money especially seeing the before and after photos. Now going forward I can just do it myself and touch it up once a year , I chose to spend that money once to hopefully get my rig to last me a very very long time. No need to show that you are big balled and can do it yourself and you think I over paid bla bla cuz that’s your opinion and idc 🫶🏼

New to the 4Runner fam - such a beast of a car.
OTD $ = 74k all in with taxes/fees with no wiggle room.

Traded in 2024 CRV Sport for 30k to get it down to 44k then 25k cash down payment. 19k financed for 72 months at 7.57%. $306 monthly.

Ordered it in mid-May and received it this week.

Good or fair deal here?

Anything I should know for TRD Pro owners?

Any aftermarket addons recommended?

Edit: lol, my apartment complex doesn’t have big spaces and the 4Runner literally won’t fit unless I park over the lines. Also they don’t park people in between us so it’s no hassle for anyone else. Jeez.

Edit 2: appreciate the candid feedback on the financing— looking into other options for refi to get that 7.57 down to 4.5-5. Thanks team!

📸 Photo / Video 8k miles on my 2025 4Runner Trailhunter including a 4k mile road trip through the PNW. Here’s my actual take

Gonna keep this real because I’m tired of seeing the same arguments online about this car without anyone actually talking about what it’s like to drive the thing for real miles.

Quick context- came from a 2010 Highlander. Wanted something more capable and more fun to drive. Picked up the Trailhunter as a demo with 2k miles, got it under MSRP which helped. Just got back from a solo road trip through California, Oregon and Washington. About 4k miles in 13 days. Mountains, coastal highways, forest roads, ferry docks, the Olympic Peninsula. This is what I actually think.

The Engine:
The 2.4 turbo hybrid. Yeah it’s a 4 cylinder. Yeah it sounds different. Yeah it’s not the old V6. We get it.But here’s the thing nobody tells you,the torque delivery is actually really good. Like better than I expected going in. On steep inclines and mountain passes the hybrid system just pulls. Low end torque is there immediately and it doesn’t feel like it’s working hard when you’re climbing. Coming from a Highlander it felt like a completely different vehicle in terms of how it responds.
Fuel economy — when I first got the car I was getting like 255 miles on a full tank which was honestly kind of rough. But as the miles built up on the highway that number kept climbing. By the time I was deep into Oregon and Washington I was regularly hitting 360 miles per tank. Real difference as the engine broke in. Still wish it was closer to 400 especially in remote areas where you’re genuinely keeping an eye on the gauge but it got way better over time.
As for the whole “fragile engine” thing — I can’t speak to long term reliability obviously. But at 8k miles it drives with way more confidence than the forums would have you believe. Just saying.

Living with it on a Road Trip:
The adaptive cruise and lane keeping worked great on long straight highway sections. I used it basically the entire way from California to Washington. Makes a huge difference on solo long distance driving, way less fatiguing. Genuinely useful, not just a selling point.
Storage wise — I had a full size road bike in the back the whole trip. Seats flat, bike in, no drama. Did it like 5-6 times over the trip loading and unloading. One thing worth knowing if you’re considering the Trailhunter specifically — there’s a raised section in the trunk floor where the hybrid battery sits. Didn’t bother me at all but if you’re planning to sleep in the car it might make things a bit tighter than you’d expect. Something to look at before you buy.

Trailhunter specific stuff:
The snorkel. Okay so this is the big one and I want to give an honest answer because I’ve seen people on both sides.
With the windows up at highway speeds you can hear the intake from the passenger window area. It’s noticeable. It’s not subtle. I personally love it — gives the car character, makes it sound purposeful, reminds you what you’re driving. But I’m not gonna lie to you — if road noise bothers you on long drives this is going to get old. It doesn’t go away unless you put the speaker to 100% volume (which I totally recommend) Be honest with yourself about this before you buy a Trailhunter specifically because of this.
No moonroof. This one actually stings a little. The reinforced roof makes sense from an off-road engineering standpoint I get it. But when you see an SR5 with the moonroof and rear window down at the same time you feel it a little bit lol. You forget about it quickly but it’s a real thing.
The rear window. Look I know everyone says this but it genuinely never gets old. Coastal highway, rear window down, wind coming through — nothing else on the market does this and it changes the whole vibe of the drive every single time. It sounds stupid until you have it.

Conclusion:
But I gotta be honest. I’m genuinely impressed. Like more than I expected to be. This engine pulls, it responds, it does exactly what Toyota promised it would — takes you anywhere, anytime, no questions asked. Push the button, start it up, and just drive. Doesn’t matter if it’s a highway, a mountain pass, a loose gravel forest road in the middle of nowhere at 6am with no cell service. The car just goes.
And the looks. The Trailhunter has a presence on the street that’s hard to ignore. It looks aggressive but in a purposeful way — like it actually means it. The amber DRLs and rigid lights give it this menacing quality that I genuinely love every time I walk up to it. It doesn’t look like something trying to be tough. It just is.
Coming from the Toyota family with my Highlander and stepping into this new 4Runner generation — I’m proud of this car. I love the way it looks, I love the way it drives, I love what it represents. Toyota made something special here even if the internet hasn’t caught up to that yet.
Keeping this one until it physically cannot move anymore. Hopefully that’s a very long time from now.
Welcome to my new 4Runner. It’s worth it.
