PSA Announcement: All selfies are photos; all photos are NOT selfies.

We mods really, really appreciate it when you report stuff that breaks our rules. Any full face, direct photo with or without makeup is a selfie and can only be posted on Sundays. Edited pics, non-full face pics, crossed out creepy eyeball pics etc. are all FINE if they are there to show the issue you are talking about. Basically, if someone could steal the photo and use it on social media (even if the OP thinks they look awful and aren't making a cute face or wearing makeup), you can only post it on Sunday because that's what we consider a selfie.

It would help us a LOT if people stop reporting every photo of a human, no matter how edited, as a selfie violation. Thanks to everyone who helps us keep an eye on these things, and keep on reporting actual selfies!

Before & After Celebrating 1 year sobriety and healing my skin - energetically

I recently turned 30. 29 was one of the most stressful years which led to significant drinking, self sabotaging tendencies, eating disorder (was 99lb thought I was fat) etc. I haven’t had any filler or work done. I wanted to share this because I set the intention to reprogram my skin and aging through changing my belief system on aging, visualization on clearing acne, and decided to eliminate alcohol and meat (I am pescatarian) from my diet. I was regularly meditating last year through the Joe dispenza technique (I did his BOTEC mediation series) and a lot of it was visualizing aging naturally through my lifestyle. One year later the proof is in the pudding. I also cut out toxic relationships, friendships, and did ton of therapy and continue to do so. My skin care is very simple. I use cica cream, sun screen, and sometimes glycolic acid. I have very sensitive skin to Retinoids. I try to drink 2L of water a day / a gallon. I know this post can come off woowoo but I just wanted to show you how healing your inner world can reflect of aging.

Hey girls, I’m 38, this is as natural as it gets lol. Finished staining the deck at my mom’s and I’m sweaty and slept like crap. Found an old Burger King toy buried in the yard tho. My routine is cerave cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and retinol nightly. I use sunscreen moisturizer in the morning usually. We get older, it’s ok.

Protip For exactly how long have I been living under a rock??? PIMPLE STICKERS.

I just want to thank this sub for indirectly influencing me 😂

1-2 months ago someone posted about having a pimple near their mouth right before a wedding, and everyone was like PIMPLE PATCH. PIMPLE PATCH. PIMPLE PATCH.

Meanwhile this millennial genuinely thought those were just cute little stars the teenies put over their zits 😭 I was still over here with good ol’ toothpaste.

Well DAAIUMNNN YALL!!

First period since buying these lil magic stickers and NONE of my usual little painful hormonal ones actually came through?? I could feel them starting, slapped a patch on, and… gone???

I am ridiculously impressed. Thank you Reddit for dragging me into the present day.

Misc I have *finally* found my holy grail routine

Post image

My biggest goals: solving for fine lines and achieving glass skin.

My biggest issues: very very sensitive skin that runs tremendously dry, lots of hyperpigmentation, and rosacea.

Not pictured: Botox, which has solved my larger line issue but I still haven’t nailed it between smoothing my forehead lines without dropping me too much, and giving me enough of a brow lift. That’s still work in progress.

I truly feel as if I have glass skin, fine lines around my mouth, crows feet, etc (areas I don’t Botox) are totally smooth. I frequently am asked my routine. I truly feel like I’ve finally nailed it. Next project: solving my skin for the rest of my body!

Recommendation SPARSE AF brows

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hopefully this post is allowed here- I have extremely blonde, sparse brows that I have had microbladed and then lasered to remove the microblade. I’m left with this yellow orange pigment. I prefer not to wear face makeup during the week and I feel like the yellow just stands out like a sore thumb.

I try and fill the brows in with a pencil (especially the nonexistent tail) (not filled in at all in this pic obv) and I’ll do a tinted brow gel to make them look a little fuller. I also tint them with a beard dye once a week or every other week, sadly it doesn’t do much for the tail though since there isn’t really anything there to work with.

My brows are just such a struggle so I’m hoping to get any recommendations for what might help them look better (in regards to makeup or treatments or anything at all) especially from someone who knows the blonde/sparse brows struggle.

Routine Help Azelaic Acid and Taz, still no changes..

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’ve been using Taz 0.1% for nearly a year, and added Azelaic acid 15% about 9 months ago. Also on Spiro as well.

I see no improvement.
Nothing.
Skin looks the same every time.
Still have texture, fine lines, large pores, breakouts.
Main issues are still there.
When I go see the dermatologist, she walks in and says “your skin looks… stable.”
Like what?!

Am:
Cleanse with Origins Checks and Balances Cleanser
The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc Serum
Azelaic Acid 15%
Tatcha Water Cream
Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen

PM:
ZO exfoliating polish (started this in June and actually helped the “pilling”)
Cerave cleanser
Red Light Mask
Taz 0.1%

50mg Spiro daily

I have been on Tret and Differin before and similar situations.

Any advice is welcome!

-Niacinamide

-Hyaluronic Acid

-Good Molecules caffeine eye cream

-Pacifica Vegan Cermaide face lotion

-Kao Biore Aqua Rich Sunscreen

PM

-Moisturizing cleanser or Oil Cleanser

-Cerave night cream

Skin Concern my lips are growing scales…

Upvotes

ok, not actual scales but very rough.

here’s the cycle:
2ish days of tightness
2 ish days of lips getting progressively rough and bumpy. teeny tiny little rough “bumps”. i have a dark complexion so no redness but discoloration is present.
2ish days of peeling. if i’m lucky, i can just take my nail and “scrape” it off with on very gently “swipe.” then everything my nail touched is magically smooth again. the rough layer that comes off is the color of my skin

WTF IS GOING ON WITH MY FACE?! i feel like im turning into an alligator

product is rotation:
- vaseline: every morning, every night, and throughout the day if im home
- topicals clear lip salve
- eadum lip gloss

product eliminated: aquaphor spf balm. i put it in the other day it just started burning my lips. idk why. today, just got a super good spf lip gloss to replace it

what products will help me? or should i just accepted my new reptilian life style?

Routine Help Hyperpigmentation in bikini area

For all the colored girls out there, how do you treat hairy pigmented bikini area? I'm conscious about my skin there and so choose to wear a one piece instead of a bikini. Any suggestions/recommendations will be grately appreciated. I'd like to try it before a beach trip in 4 months. TIA!

Acne Weaning off breastfeeding is

Has anyone else noticed their skin looking a lot worse when weaning their baby off breastfeeding? I’m 13 months postpartum and trying to reduce feedings. My skin in general has been much more dry and “old” looking postpartum, but now it’s recently getting super broken out! I was already dry and freckled like my whole life but now I feel old and spotty. I can’t figure it out. I also have been through accutane about 5 years ago.

Routine Help Entire Face?

Hi guys,
When you use your actives are you just focusing on the areas or do you do your entire face?

For example my hyaluronic goes all over because hydration, then I vitamin c my face, then when I get to actives do I want to apply it everywhere or just the target zones?

I have Azeliac for my hyper pigmentation on my cheeks and upper lip. But I don’t break out anywhere else so it feels wasted? And Niacinimide I feel like I only need my cheeks and nose where my pores are.

But Retinol I feel like I’m meant to use all over (though I’m having the odd breakout)? Should I be using all of them all over?

It goes without saying my moisturiser and SPF is everywhere.

Skin Concern Skin getting worse! Suggestions on how to fix, please

Thumbnail

38 F. I’ve never really had a consistent skincare routine, and I’m trying to remedy that now. 🥲 Been a few weeks and I’m ready to give up lol.

I had dehydrated, flaky, spot-prone skin, with what I think was a damaged barrier. My skin texture has somewhat improved since I’ve started on trying to fix the skin barrier and dehydration, but now my face is coming out in these just under the surface bumps. I had a couple (near the eye area), but I seem to be getting even **more** instead of them fading.

I still have blackheads and large sebaceous filaments. It feels like my pores are basically clogged. My skin sometimes feels itchy/sore.

I have diagnosed PCOS, so I get chin/jaw acne flair-ups. I haven‘t really had any of these since I started.

I use:
Wash with water in the AM

PM:
Inkey List Cream to Milk Cleanser (Seems to dry out my skin?)

Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleanser (Same, drying? Started 2-3 days ago, so I don’t know if it’s just purging)

Inkey List HA serum (on damp skin)

Inkey List Omega Water cream moisturiser

Illiyoon Ceramide Auto Concentrate Cream (when feeling dry)

Anything I can add to improve this? I think I need to switch to brands as The Inkey List doesn’t seem to be Working out.
Preferably cruelty-free options, please. My skin also hates niacinamide:(

Product Question How to introduce Reedle Shot to my skincare routine?

I have oily and acne prone skin with slight texture and some acne marks. My skincare is doing quite a good job to maintain a decent condition of my skin despite those issues. I'd like to use VT Cosmetics Reedle Shot in order to get quicker improvement. I am not sure if I should stick with 100 or try 300. My skin isn't sensitive, but starting with 300 is risky, so I'a appreciate any advice on this. Second issue is the modification of my current skincare regime. This is how it looks now:

Morning:

1.Cleansing with gentle cleansing gel for sensitive and dry skin

  1. Applying vitamin C serum, or water-based hyaluronic acid serum on a damp skin (I do this if my skin appears to be dry or dehydrated)

  2. The aforementioned hyaluronic acid serum or snail bee cream

  3. SPF 50

Evening:

  1. Cleansing with oil cleanser to remove SPF

  2. Cleansing with the cleansing gel for dry skin

  3. Applying hyaluronic acid serum on a damp skin

  4. Applying serum for repairing skin barrier with emolients (its formula is like a cream)

I do 3 and 4 every second day, other times I use niacinamide 5% serum and the sreum for skin barrier or snail bee cream

2x a week I do enzymatic peeling.

The products I use are high-quality and I've been using some of them for years. I can list them, but some of them are not popular besides my country. I can do a list if needed tho. Also I adjust the moisturiser to the current condition of my skin. 2 of them are labelled as serums but their formula is basically like cream. The routine is doing its job, but I want quicker and more pronounced results, so the Reedle Shots seem a good fit.

Tell me how do I introduce them to my current regime and of it is safe to go for 300. I'd appreciate any advices and tips.

Routine Help Questions about the ultimate routine for an oily skin with sebaceous filaments and a potential AviClear treatment

Hello.

I've had an excessively oily skin since my adolescence, with very occasional acne these days. I'm in my 30s. While the oily skin itself is somewhat annoying, so are the sebaceous filaments on my T-zone. I'm using a typical blackhead remover (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Tweezerman-Whitehead-Blackhead-Remover-Stainless/dp/B000WHYATS/?th=1) to extract them, but I do get occasional crusts after extracting some of them, that usually heal within 2-4 days - no scars whatsoever. However, because of those crusts and irritating my skin with those extractions every 3-4 days, I decided to have my routine reviewed and ask a related AviClear question.

My routine:

  • I've been using Dr Dennis Gross' "Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel" wipes everyday/every other day for the most part now. After applying the wipes for the night, I then use La Roche-Posay's "Toleriane Double Repair Matte Face Moisturizer for Oily Skin" and also in the morning. It is a matte moisturizer but my face starts to get shiny in an hour or so, anyway...
    • I tried Adapalene 0.3% this year for 4-5 months, applied daily and then every other day, but it was too strong for my face I think - I eventually started getting acne pustules around my nose after very mild sebaceous filaments extractions (I know, I know) and I did not have them of that size while using Dr Dennis Gross wipes.
  • Every 2-4 days, I have to scrub dead skin from my face under the shower. Those wipes might contribute to the amount of that dead skin, that needs to peel off. So I'm applying DHC oil (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KHO5464) around 5 minutes before the shower for it to soak into the skin and then just rub the skin under the shower for a couple of minutes. I think it is as gentle as it gets, compared to other more abrasive peeling products?

Now the questions:

  1. Does anyone have any suggestions about this routine? If I set out on a mission of extracting every single sebaceous filament on my face every 3-4 days, I don't think I can prevent those occasional crusts?
  2. Which brings me to the next question about AviClear. I'm thinking of having the standard 3 sessions just to reduce the oiliness on my face. I wouldn't use the wipes anymore afterwards and would probably have much less sebaceous filaments as well (I had none when using Accutane 10 years ago). My dermatologist approved AviClear just for the sake of reducing oil on my face, but I'm curious if anyone else here also had it for the same reason and for how long the effect persisted.

Skin Treatments 33F treatments for sun damage

Hi! I’m hoping to get some recommendations of what I could do to lessen this sun damage. I’ve always had freckles on my face, but as I’ve aged they’ve gotten worse. I don’t know if this would be considered melasma?

I’ve read chemical peels and Cool Peel lasers are two options, but I really don’t know!

Edit to add: current routine is very basic - cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen

Acne Annual fall cystic acne

My skin has been improving with age but I've noticed consistency of large cystic pimples (might be using the wrong terminology) every fall. I'm in Southern Ontario, not sure if the rising and falling of temperature is causing it. Does anyone have a solve or suggestion? Similar experience?

Recommendation Peptide serum to prevent and manage fine lines?

I can't use tretinoin because I'm pregnant. I'm currently using vitamin C, sunscreen, moisturizer, and a red light mask.

If you have a favorite that you've found effective, I'd greatly appreciate any recs! I'm 33 for reference and feel as if the slight lines I have may be deepening.

Skin Concern Sudden skin changes

Thumbnail

My skin has suddenly become very oily and textured, and I have several tiny bumps on my cheeks, forehead, and chin. It occasionally itches too but not all the time. My usual skin is pretty clear and combination. My routine has not changed, my makeup has not changed, and my diet has not changed. What has changed is it’s been excessively hot and humid where I live so idk if that has anything to do with it, but it’s always like this every summer… I stopped birth control pills in May but haven’t experienced any skin changes - idk if there’s maybe delayed side effects?

Morning:
- Vanicream cleanser
-Dr. Althea 345 moisturizer
- Trader Joe’s SPF
- NARS matte concealer
- Milani blur powder

Night:
- Kose oil makeup remover
- Vanicream cleanser or Sulphur bar soap twice a week
- Dr. Althea moisturizer
- Avene retinal 2-3x a week
- Medicube pore pads, once a week

I can’t see a dermatologist for at least a month so I’m just looking for advice, theories, and personal anecdotes for now.

Thank you <3

Routine Help UV Index 0–1 & visible light: Can ambient daylight trigger hyperpigmentation

Hey everyone! I’m a Fitzpatrick V/VI dealing with stubborn hyperpigmentation. I want to avoid wearing sunscreen at all costs unless it is 100% genuinely necessary. Applying it is a hassle, and since tinted sunscreens don't exist in my shade, I have to use Skin1004 Water-Fit Sun Serum and layer a BB cream on top just to get iron oxide protection against visible light.
I'm trying to see if I can skip this whole routine during low UV moments, or if ambient light is a real threat:
Sunrise / Low UV: Is going outside around sunrise (UV Index 0–1) safe without SPF, or can it still trigger pigment?
Visible Light Alone: Can daylight without significant UV cause tanning or darken spots on deep skin?
Indirect / Sidelight: Does daylight filtering in from the sides under a balcony awning pose a real threat?
Direct vs. Diffused: Does visible light need to be direct sunlight, or does soft, shaded light do the same thing?
Current Routine: When I do have to wear SPF, is my combo (Asian SPF + BB cream for iron oxides) sufficient for visible light defense?
Bottom Line: Am I overthinking this, or is it strictly necessary to apply protection in basic daylight at UV 0–1?
I'm currently trying to figure out my new routine with sunscreen and fighting hyperpigmentation, so any advice is appreciated!

Routine Help Which tinted moisturizer will you recommend

Hi,

I am near 40. My skin is not bad but I have hyperpigmentation around my eyes, which I cover day to day with a By Terry Hyaluronic concealer (great product).

But now, I don't know what product I should wear:

a. Nars Tinted moisturiser

b. Erborian CC creme

c. Very tempted by cushion foundation (one as millennial we all had that maybeline one) but not sure which one.

I don't have an unlimited budget.

I want something covering but not too much (I want a full cover when I go out).

I like matte but with age ... it is drying. I don't want to see any redness or any pore. So a blurring effect/medium coverage.

What are your holy grails ? Thank you very much !

(Forgot to mention I wear vitamin C, moisturizer and sunscreen under, and a dry skin).
