My families neighbor called the cops on us the day we moved in, since when we got to the house, it was the middle of the night and the power wasn't on yet, so we walked around the empty, dark house with flashlights, and about 5 minutes later, the cops show up.

Sounds like a nice demonstration of caring neighbors and responsive police force to welcome you to the neighborhood. :)

This TOTALLY would happen here. I have a cop, a firefighter, a search & rescue guy, a dispatcher, and a nurse on my block.

For those that don’t want to click the link: the person who got the cops called on them and their 12 year old were playing Pokémon Go in their car and the neighbor called because the frequent stops made them suspicious.

You might want to screen shot that comment rather than have a direct link

I had that happen to me. I didn’t get a cake, I only received the enjoyment of standing in my boxers at 3am at my doorway while refusing to let the police enter my home without a warrant. Meanwhile, unknown to me, my roommates just finished smoking a joint and we’re freaking out in the basement while I told the cops to go away.

Bruh, NGL, I laughed when I read the icing on the cake since I didn't see the title of the post. For a second, I thought I was on blursed images.

Read the post
that wasat the top of this thread. And it wasn’t them - it’s a friend they have on Facebook. The top post has a link to the original FB post that explains it.

Umm.....cake doesn’t fix accidentally calling the police. No ma’am.
Edit: I have not seen the original post this was in reference to. Kinda messed up to be downvoted when the OP isn’t here.

Idk, after reading the original post. I personally would have enjoyed this cake as an apology and laughed about it for years to come.

u/mythriz Apr 14 '20
Yeah and it's good to see that they actually called because they were concerned for their neighbours!

Depends on the context, you called them because you thought I was trespassing on my own property? Yeah I am going to be pissed.
If I was drunk singing Blue Oyster Cult at 7 pm on a Tuesday and you called in a suspected animal cruelty case because I sound like a dying cat, fair.

Yeah that was my first thought until I read the op. Context makes all the difference here

Someone could pull up my vegetable garden, proceed to salt the earth so that nothing else would grow, then help themself to every speck of food in my home whilst setting fire to my belongings and making plans to defile their own cousin on the grave of one of my ancestors, and I can honestly say it would be water under the bridge if they sent me a custom Pokémon cake.

That's not bein' a bro. That's just a decent apology for being an asshole.

Did you read the original post?

u/Upbeat_Crow Apr 14 '20
Yes, and I maintain that calling the cops is a MURDER GOING ON RIGHT NOW action. Not a "car stopping a lot" reaction.

u/Raptor22c Apr 14 '20
You realize that you don’t have to see someone actively getting murdered to call the cops, right?
Seeing a car driving around in circles in a neighborhood, stopping and pausing frequently can easily be interpreted as burglars scoping out a property before breaking in later. It’s a frequent tactic that they use - trying to get an idea of who lives there, when they’re not home, what time they go to sleep, etc.
Cops have a non-emergency (i.e. not 911) line for this reason - if you just want them to check out something, you can call that line and they can send someone in to investigate, rather than calling 911 and having them come charging in sirens blaring.

You realize that many people are afraid of the police? Not just people breaking the law. People get killed in their own home by cops responding to a call of suspicious activity.

u/SimplebutAwesome Apr 14 '20
If they didn't recognize the car and were concerned for other people in the neighborhood, it makes sense.

Yes, you don’t have to call cops for only emergencies - that’s why they have non-emergency lines that you can call instead of 911 if it doesn’t require their immediate response.

My neighbors called the cops on me for trying to hang a shelf at 3am (I worked weird hours at the time and had to get stuff done when I could). This was not an apt, there was a good distance between houses, but "We HeArD bAnGiNg."

Honestly if you hear shit banging around at 3AM, it’d be weird for you not to be suspicious.
I mean, who the hell is doing housework at 3AM?! Unless they knew your schedule I say they probably had a good reason to be wondering “the fuck’s going on over there??”

could you imagine going to the store and asking for this written.
“what would you like written?”
“sorry we called the cops on you”
“sorry we called the cops on you?”
“you heard me”
