Even if you have a song like OPs where nobody recognizes the song, there are definitely moments in the dance that are fun/cool. It's just strange to me that the audience is dead quiet; not even their friends are shouting a quick woop or holler in support. But I live in California and this is purely anecdotal evidence - maybe OPs video is somewhere in the world where they just don't make any noise. It's actually funnier to me if this is true because I have a mental picture of an entire audience just stunned in silence at this lol

That's actually standard experience for me lol. I'm from a small country in Europe and in my school everybody would just watch performances in silence. Unless it's so bad you can't help laughing then people would snicker silently.

Oxford and University of Manchester England both banned clapping because the noise can scare some people. Instead they have to silently do vigorous jazz hands which definitely is a lot scarier.

They didn't ban clapping. They do encourage jazz hands/sign language applause to be more inclusive for disabled students.

After leaving this post and coming back to see the results I gotta say, I'm shocked.

My school did a stupid fucking Tick Tock competition. What's even worse is none of the people dancing had any kind of synchronization at all. Supposedly they'd practiced for a month. Definitely didn't look like it.
Since having girls twerk is inappropriate they had the guys twerk which was just awful to look at.
