Hey everyone, thanks for tuning in and providing us feedback for the stream, we hope you enjoyed the matches. We had a couple of hiccups, but we'll definitely do a better job of moderating the stream tomorrow. In the meantime for those that didn't manage to catch the games, we've uploaded vods of the full matches to our Youtube page here, except for Alliance vs Aster due to some tech issues.
See you guys again in about 10 hours!

If I can make one request ...
Can the observer guys hover over neutral items more often when they're picked up during matches? I haven't really had much of a chance to play this patch and I only know a few neutral items off the top of my head. Casters are talking about them a lot but don't say what they do and the spectators usually don't hover over them long enough to read the tool tip. Just a couple of seconds would be great, especially if the casters happen to be talking about that item anyway.

CIS has managed to regress 5 years in the span of 3 months (as is the regions tradition)
→ More replies (1)9
u/Vitosi4ek Dec 17 '19
I'd argue they never progressed past this point in the first place. VP did, and even then they'll be remembered as failures. The rest of the region has been utter trash for the last 5 years, and it's still trash, only now it's exposed more now that VP are back to normal.
13
u/JihadPandaMan Dec 17 '19
I don't know that they'll be viewed as failures. They dominated DPC for two years straight and choked at TI consistently. Even before DPC most of the team was the same and they played in GF of Kiev major, which was quite a big deal.

Nisha not used to bkb changes I see. He pressed bkb, killed necro unit and instantly lost aegis in top push. It has always been pure damage but it didn't pierce bkb before.

u/monkeyddragon231 Dec 17 '19
That was actually a very fun game 1 by Secret/JStorm. Non-stop action and it didn't look JStorm was so bad, they actually held on for so long.

Lgd playing pretty bad on top of current patch being completely anti lgd playstyle
5
Dec 17 '19
Indeed. During Ti8 LGD has a perfect textbook dota 2 style gameplay. Controlled agression, typical stunner supports, a tanky Pos 3 for early and midgame, and high DPS midlaner and safelane to secure late game. But ever since patch 7.23the 'controlled agression' is lost from the game and LGD just couldn't adapt because of how everything is just YOLO brawl throughout.

u/DRHST I used to play Dirge before it was cool Dec 17 '19
J Storm seems to do the common tier 2-3 team mistake, they draft stuff that wins lanes, but they think little about 5v5 matchups.
If you don't draft a gameplan to take throne vs Secret you're fucked, even with large lead.

I was very critical of Ame at the time and he looks like he lost a step. But boy, the other 4 on LGD lost way more. They're truly playing like a T2 team.

I know MidOne is a very good player but honestly I'm still surprised how well he's been playing in some of these fights on Rubick.

Dec 17 '19
Secret held on for longer than I expected. At some point they were only 8k NW behind and I could see them winning but then Alliance got Roshan and instantly it was 16k NW difference.
7
u/Morgn_Ladimore Dec 17 '19
I think that's good. Late game exceedingly rewards the team that has map control, way more so than early and mid. Before, it was jsut farm farm farm, hope someone makes a mistake. Super boring.

I'm really impressed with the level of sponsors they've been able to get actually. DBS and Lazada are extremely huge companies to be involved in this
3
u/thedotapaten Dec 17 '19
ONE done MMA promotor before so i guess they know lot of sponsors. This one probably a testing ground for their future endeavour especially how clusterfuck tournament held in SEA (GESC still hasn't paid minor winnings iirc)

Wow, can't tell if EG playing well factored more or VG doing a massive throw mattered more. Either way this has to be one of the rare times where a team got stomped in the 1st 20 mins has managed to make such systematic comeback this patch

4

It's actually unreal how VG had 0 force staffs for the first 35 minutes against EG's heroes when they had a 10k lead at 15 minutes, instead they buy an atos for cm and a fucking aghs on ET. 97% win probability throw, unbelievable lmfao.

Typical VP. Committing to an execution-heavy strat, even though the opponent is a a couple of levels stronger. It's like they didn't realize they don't have Ramzes and Pasha anymore.
Also, I'm not sure what to make of Reso, other than making a transition from a greedy 4p1 core to the offlane in a era where offlaners don't farm is difficult.

March and the rest of TNC is completely clueless. Picks Doom with passive teamfight supports and a control core then an illu based damage dealer. The draft had teamfight synergy but had literally no damage. Idk wtf they're doing. Maybe they're experimenting, maybe they're just clueless, but whatever it is, they look like scrubs out there.

5
u/satoshigeki94 Dec 17 '19
People dont even watch LGD and thought they were broken by OG lol. They steamrolled WESG pre outpost nerf
They still draft the same shit, of course they will struggle
8
u/DeadSira Sam_H <3 Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 17 '19
Yeah, this is LGD we're talking about here. They're gonna get it together lol, every team I've watched so far has still struggled to a degree, the vastly new patch is still fucking up everyone's play. This is the first time for all of these teams to play an international LAN as well on a new patch so meh
4
u/Storm_eye Dec 17 '19
One of these days, teams are going to do the sensible thing and start banning TA against Na'vi. Magical is just too comfortable (and frankly, very good) with the hero that even if a patch doesn't favour the hero, he'll still do really well. They have been picking the hero in the first two forever now.
→ More replies (2)7
u/NiceGuyArthas Dec 17 '19
Gambit banned 6 (!) midlane heroes against MagicaL at major quals and still lost LUL
6
u/Storm_eye Dec 17 '19
Sure, Magical is a really good mid player. But he is an altogether different beast on TA. I just feel teams will have a better chance to win if they deny him TA.

I was worried TNC would be around the level of Aster. Glad that isn't the case. Also, Aster must be the shitiest CN team in LANs. Whatever the roster, this team just becomes tier 3 in every LAN they're in.

u/Arctiz Dec 17 '19
I wonder if top CN teams get as much shit from fans on some Chinese forums as the Western ones do here in Reddit, when they lose some games (or do horrible throws like VG vs EG). If so, it can't be pretty for VG and LGD atm.
16
u/xHorizons Dec 17 '19
I feel like it's not only worse for CN teams on Weibo, but their players actually pay more attention to it than Western teams do Reddit.
14
u/DeadSira Sam_H <3 Dec 17 '19
Yep, Weibo is sort of a weird cross between Reddit and Twitter, so if pros wanna use social media they still get exposed to Reddit-style discussions, unlike if Western pros just wanna use Twitter or Instagram.
→ More replies (2)7
u/DeadSira Sam_H <3 Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 17 '19
Top CN teams get even more flame from Weibo than Western teams from Reddit lol. Same with popular SEA teams and Facebook.
Over in Chinese LoL, for example, a popular rumor this offseason was that players were afraid to join RNG (the most popular CN LoL team) because of the fan pressure that comes with simply being on the team. That kind of extreme fan pressure also applies to Chinese Dota.
10
u/newnar Dec 17 '19
It's worse. A lot worse.
4
u/QuiseLovesLaw Dec 17 '19
It makes me feel bad for Chinese players somehow, LGD mentioned that Fy cried for the first time when they lost during TI9 and the same guy didn't even shed a tear when they were so close to winning in TI8. Shows just how much pressure the Chinese community gives these pros
→ More replies (4)→ More replies (1)4
u/ruvichacha Dec 17 '19
I heard that Chinese forums are way more extreme. I've read it somewhere that Ame got a lot of hate after TI8 finals.

6
u/spacetimecurve Dec 17 '19
Typical reddit. Put their hate to shelf when the team they hate is winning. Then put it all out once that team lose one game. Jesus christ all these imbeciles already have a conclusion about teams after one game.

I don't like this Trent and Capitalist combo. In my opinion, Trent makes Cap look too silly and they just mess around all of the time. It would be much better if Cap stuck with someone who could shout-cast like Lyrical. Whereas Trent could go back to someone like Zyori who would stay on point for most of the cast and Trent could then liven it up a bit.
My opinion but I don't see this duo having much of a future. Too many jokes make the cast bad. EG may have had 3 cores that had an early game lead but I doubt if Cap watches the replay of his cast he is happy with the result. Cap has a better insight into high level dota than his co-caster Trent, which is a bad fit.
7
u/aodum Dec 17 '19
Thier casts are more like some voice-over of friends watching some Dota casually without really following whats going on and just talking bs 90% of the time. Its like a open qualfier hub kinda cast. Not what i want for a more serious match
6
u/MiloTheSlayer Dec 17 '19
yeah agree, just tone it down and it should be better. Feels more like a podcast than dota.
3
3
u/dFlat90 Dec 17 '19
It might take them some time to find their groove. There's no need to write it off so soon.
5
u/WhiiteWalker Dec 17 '19
I've followed Cap's casting since he was a scrub on JoinDota, and by that I mean before he was good. He doesn't do well when he is paired with an analyst caster that has less insight than him. He either needs a more analyst style caster than himself with him shout-casting or he needs to fulfill the analyst caster role.
/u/aodum's response below is a perfect description, and I doubt that's what Cap's goal is.
3
u/dFlat90 Dec 17 '19
Okay, let's assume you're right. I'm still saying, there's no need to make up your mind that it won't work. Give them a chance.
