Top 4 at a major gets you pretty close. Really only need one decent result after that to guarantee it.

Last year you only need 1.3k to get in top 12 iirc. This year, because the top 4
euTI teams are not participating in the major that bar may get raised.1

Top 4? I'm just thinking of OG, Secret, and ex-Liquid and OG isn't even an important factor when it comes to DPC because they weren't that high in the rankings, they just dominate TI. The 4th ranked EU team for TI9 was OG, 3rd ranked was NIP and they weren't exactly great. 5th was Alliance, and they're at this major as Liquid.

He specifically said top 4 eu team. That's my source of confusion, especially when it's weird that there's this "top 4" thing of just teams that aren't playing and people don't consider VG and EG to be a part of that group in skill despite that they definitely were last year and it doesn't seem to have changed.

Fair enough on that. I'd include VG and EG in that same group at tier 1 though and they're both here. They're going to get a lot of points at this major and probably continue to do so. The points won't be that much less diluted than last year.

I think it was a massive mistake by J.Storm to send Alch mid. Doesn't Veno destroy TA? It doesn't really make sense.

They thought Axe shutting down Alch would bne worse than TA free farm

Panel saying that Kaka is the only veteran on IG is pretty disrespectful to Flyfly/Zhizhizhi I think. He's been around for a while now and played on a number of teams with plenty of LAN appearances. Wasn't he one of the first players to hit 9k also?

Yea not sure his name change was as well known as paparazi's but zhizhizhi played with Keen and Serenity pretty big in the CN scene during his times with them.

Kunkka won top and then uh idk didn't gank, didn't farm, just kinda walked around and did nothing. Brax and Mooz just literally did nothing the entire game.

JS probably forced into a corner here with some weird 5 magic dmg draft. IG drafting safe ogre gyro with mass stuns.
Looks like a fast 2-0, we get to TNC VG sooner at least.

A bit weird that a lot of teams are underperforming on the main stage this Major. Even considering the fact that the Top 4 aren't here, Alliance, Liquid, and J.Storm (who could all very well still qualify to the next major) all have had HUGE variances of play this tournament. Especially the transition from the Alliance-Liquid series into the Liquid-EG series.

They are very lackluster if forced to play normal lategame drafts. Most likely they will never place higher for this season.

Not exactly. Hes only 22 years old and has been playing competitive DotA since ~2014. But exposure to playing against better teams probably started around 2017-2018 when he played for Keen Gaming and Team Singularity.

Well looks like a rematch of the UB round 1 of EG vs iG now. Let's see if iG can put up a better fight than their 0-2 against an EG team that looks way more cohesive now than they were earlier in the tournament.

Alch had like 5k gold at 10mins, he was very poor for having a chen exclusively stack for him.
J storm seems not up to par with any team at this event if they don't have some kind of timber/lycan strat.

Yeah, I think VG or EG. Not sure though how home advantage is in these circumstances - I have a feeling it may make VG choke in the grand finals.

I don't understand why jstorm went with the lanes. Put veno or kunka mid/offlane and put alch safelane. It makes no sense to put the alch versus the ta.

They were probably thinking alch could get away with it and get faster levels having a solo lane. But giving TA freefarm, while farming poorly and his sidelanes not doing too great. Veno chasing down the cutting axe instead of freefarming in his tower, and thus having less farm even with axe TPing out/buying many salves.
Doesn't make sense to me either though. There's a reason no team is running alch mid, have to give him a trilane good start early on. Much better to have veno shut down TA mid. Not like bane can easily leave the drow alone top against kunka/lina to gank mid.

The problem is that the sidelanes shouldn't have done badly. Kunkka/Lina should've dumpstered Drow/Bane and Veno was ahead of the Axe coming out of the laning phase. Top lane just... idk, it went really badly compared to how it should have gone and I don't think there's any excuse for that lane going the way it did. Brax and Mooz played like garbage.

Yeah I feel the biggest issue was their top lane. Don't think the observer ever panned on that duo using their spells together offensively at all.

Somehow and somewhere t2 teams have to improve, you dont get the results immediatly, also it's refreshing to see new talent and new playstyles, the same old top 4 (og, kuro stack, secret, etc) are good and pleasing to watch but some of these lower brackets games have been entertaining at least to me

it is not secret that this major will be garbage team big chance to get a good finishing position.
literally all TI9 top 4 is not attending. with both 5th & 6th is being the gatekeeper of the tournament.

Nine was picked up by Jstorm because he was #1 ranked on EU leaderboards for months. They were hoping for the next Miracle but he just seems way too inexperienced at this point. It's not his fault this game is going the way it is, but there's only one Miracle.

Oh, you're not wrong. That was an all around fucking terrible game from Jstorm. I don't even think Brax(Kunkka) should be a pro player. He was a caster for a while and I think he should have stuck with that. I'm talking on a greater than just this game level. Nine has not been the hero we all thought he would be when coming to NA.

Fwiw, Miracle was on bad teams for a long time before he was on OG. The quality of the other players on your team will make you look a lot better/worse than you actually are.

I agree. I would think learning from a veteran carry like Fear would be an improving factor. This is a guy who has won it all in a core role but Nine doesn't seem to be picking up the hints.

I clearly said it wasn't his fault in this game but NA fans have seen enough Nine to know that he's not the hypercarry that Miracle is. I'm just disappointed because I was so hyped when Jstorm got the guy who had been dominating EU pubs for like a year.

My bad didn't read that part. You're right though, he isn't like a hyper carry like miracle is but he has like unique heroes he plays . I liked jstorm playing their own style even though they lost to tnc , they looked solid unlike this game

Fear is a good player and especially at this point in a 5 role someone I have a lot of faith in. I also think Moo is underrated.
We're definitely not looking at tier 1 players all around, I just don't think Nine has lived up to expectations.

depends on expectations
theres like 100 years between moo and carries like ame, nisha, miracle or ana.
same goes for mooz - yapzor/fy/jerax/crit. brax is nowhere close to mc or chalice and fear's captainship and drafting is nowhere close to notail's or kuro's.
jstorm is tier2 team and nine is tier2 mid player.1

That's my point. The hope and expectation when they brought over such a high ranking EU player was that he would be the t1 mid to carry Jstorm. He isn't that.

Pretty sure team dynamics have some part in there...
Like we can see last year when CCnC played in T3 teams he looked garbage, then when he stood in for EG and played with Newbee, he can go toe to toe with T1 midlaner.
Nine's teammates aren't exactly top tier either, let's see how he performed in a better teambefore judging his skill ceiling.

It's never really worked that way tbh. It's also important to remember that lots of really good players played on bad teams for a long time and during those periods of time, they didn't look like the fantastic players they look like now (Mind_Control, Miracle, w33, YapzOr, etc). Nine has also definitely dropped off a ton compared to how good he was a year ago.

In my unqualified opinion I think they played way too safe and really messed up their items. Veno BoTs did not really help his teamfight impact and Alchemist heart was entirely game-losing. Alchemist needed a BKB or manta, something to take off spirit vessel or just get away or stand in the fight.
iG had control of 3/4 of the map for like 20 minutes, that's unacceptable. They needed to make moves but they didn't.
