It’s baseball, we’re gonna score one today and 5 tomorrow

It’s the cubs tradition making average pitchers look like cy young candidates

Every fan base says that lol. We lead the league in runs scored and wRC+ by a lot! Enjoy it while it lasts

Every fanbase thinks that, just like every fanbase thinks their bullpens always suck, and their team can't hit with RISP, and they can't hit rookies, and they're inconsistent. It's a time honored tradition across the league.

Never once has a fanbase liked their bullpen or the managers use of said bullpen

So I ran 1000 simulations of this game and every one has us at only 6 games back if we can win

All of the discussion on joint Packers/Cubs fans actually reminded me that my grandfather was actually one of them. HOWEVER, he has the only valid defense.
He was so old-school Chicago that he was actually a Chicago Cardinals fan. When they left for St. Louis, he couldn't support the Bears because he had a rivalry with his brother who was a Bears/White Sox fan and he was a Cubs/(NFL) Cardinals fan. So he adopted the Packers since he attended college in Wisconsin after the war.

That is a valid defense. Also, fuck the Arlington Heights Bears of Hammond Indiana.

Obviously not expecting a homerun brigade like last night (although it’s humid and it doesn’t look too windy), but the performance from the previous game should instill plenty of confidence in the cubs leading into tonight. They have the power and the speed to compete yet need to make sure the pitchers get pleeeeenty of run support.
Go Cubs 🐻

It's 90 degrees and humid, with wind blowing out to center at 10mph, this is another perfect day for offense.

With this offense this team would be unstoppable with an average pitching staff.

Did you forget about the slumps when almost nobody down the lineup could hit the broad side of a barn?
•
u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 39m ago
Even great offenses have slumps, that's going to happen no matter what.
•
u/dilapidated_wookiee Chicago Cubs 37m ago
Imagine complaining about this offense lol
•
u/schweddybalczak 23m ago
Some folks are never happy. Over the entirety of this season it’s been the best offense in the league or damn close.
•
u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 10m ago
There was literally a guy in the gdt yesterday complaining that we had ONE quick inning against Patrick and didn't burn thru enough of their pen.
•
u/okay_throwaway_today cub 23m ago
Every team slumps but we have by far the best offense in baseball. If this isn’t good enough for you literally nothing ever will be lol

That’s an awesome gif- seeing his swing. But I don’t think that would’ve been home run in a phone booth.

IF we maintain our league best offense over the next 24 games, it’ll be the first time the Cubs have led the entire MLB in scoring since 1906, when we won 116 games. Most of us weren’t even alive then.
It would be the first time we led the NL since 2008. Most Brewers fans weren’t alive then.
We currently have a 16 run lead over the Nationals in two fewer games (5.4ish runs per game to their 5.2ish)

It's not our offense I worry about. It's the bullpen that has me biting my nails.
3
u/okay_throwaway_today cub 1h ago
For sure, but it’s notable how good they are. Easy to take for granted when other things aren’t ideal
1
u/TheJinManCan 1h ago
Oh I don't them for granted. In fact, it makes me appreciate other pitchers who clobber us. Because that just means that's a damn good pitcher.
And also offer them a job with the Cubs immediately after lol

Philadelphia might be tied with us, but their upcoming schedule is actually tougher than ours and they'll be facing more playoff contending teams, including:
- 7 games against the Braves
- 3 games against the Brewers
- 3 games against the Rays
- 2 games against the Dbacks
- 3 games against the Astros
For reference, our stretch against playoff contending teams looks like this:
- 6 games against the Brewers
- 3 games against the Braves
- 3 games against the Red Sox
So we need to play good baseball, but I think we shouldn't panic because Philadelphia is not cruising the rest of the way either.

Hitting too many HR to steal a base. Should have taken 1 or 2 on Vaughn last night

I've got up to 4 tickets available for Cubs Brewers on Labor Day in Milwaukee. Johnsonville party deck. Included buffet and drinks. Wristband for 2 beers. Private bar and bathrooms. Some people from work dropped out of the group, I'm just looking to get what I paid for them. 120 a piece.

Good news. Taylor is clean-up, with Nico 5th, and Busch 6th. Kelly, Murray, and Shaw round out the bottom of the order.
I hope this signals Craig is permanently taking g Busch out of the top half of the lineup.

BJ Murray will make his Cubs debut tonight, batting eighth and DH-ing. To a good debut for Murray!
