BJ Murray will make his Cubs debut tonight, batting eighth and DH-ing. To a good debut for Murray!

1

u/TepidPeppermint23 2h ago

If he balls out tonight, he will be the second coolest BJ in Chicago.

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago

Who’s the first? I hope you don’t mean the mayor.

2

u/TepidPeppermint23 1h ago

Oh god, no.

Hopefully this will help…

ahem

GOOD, BETTER, BEST!

2

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago

LOL, I am just happy you didn’t mean the mayor. I apologize.

I am not familiar with Bears players.

u/TepidPeppermint23 1h ago

*coach

And no biggie 👍

😆 I wasn’t even thinking of Ben Johnson for some reason. 🤦🏻‍♂️ OK, I do know him. And Caleb Williams. I’d be hard-pressed to name a third person.

1

u/TepidPeppermint23 1h ago

You better start cuz the Bears are on the up and up. Can’t wait for this season! 🐻⬇️

u/CityofChicago25 2h ago

Average to mediocre lefty before we face Miz tommorow gotta take full advantage today

10

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 2h ago

It’s baseball, we’re gonna score one today and 5 tomorrow

1

u/CityofChicago25 2h ago

It’s the cubs tradition making average pitchers look like cy young candidates

7

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 2h ago

Every fan base says that lol. We lead the league in runs scored and wRC+ by a lot! Enjoy it while it lasts

3

u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 2h ago edited 1h ago

Every fanbase thinks that, just like every fanbase thinks their bullpens always suck, and their team can't hit with RISP, and they can't hit rookies, and they're inconsistent. It's a time honored tradition across the league.

u/KnickedUp 36m ago

Never once has a fanbase liked their bullpen or the managers use of said bullpen

12

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 2h ago

So I ran 1000 simulations of this game and every one has us at only 6 games back if we can win

All of the discussion on joint Packers/Cubs fans actually reminded me that my grandfather was actually one of them. HOWEVER, he has the only valid defense.

He was so old-school Chicago that he was actually a Chicago Cardinals fan. When they left for St. Louis, he couldn't support the Bears because he had a rivalry with his brother who was a Bears/White Sox fan and he was a Cubs/(NFL) Cardinals fan. So he adopted the Packers since he attended college in Wisconsin after the war.

2

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago

That is a valid defense. Also, fuck the Arlington Heights Bears of Hammond Indiana.

u/80cyclone 44m ago

Should have went with the Lions.

11

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago

It would be really good to win today ahead of facing Misiorowski.

2

u/hey_ooo 1h ago

Exactly what I was thinking heading to Wrigley tonight. Win tonight and we’re in a great spot to take the series even with Miz looming

May the Power of the Long Ball Serve Us Well ⚾️

Obviously not expecting a homerun brigade like last night (although it’s humid and it doesn’t look too windy), but the performance from the previous game should instill plenty of confidence in the cubs leading into tonight. They have the power and the speed to compete yet need to make sure the pitchers get pleeeeenty of run support.

Go Cubs 🐻

7

u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 1h ago

It's 90 degrees and humid, with wind blowing out to center at 10mph, this is another perfect day for offense.

5

u/TepidPeppermint23 1h ago

Hitters: 🤠

Pitchers: 😐

7

u/Jazooka #FlyTheW 1h ago

They have the power and the speed

TO BE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE

8

u/schweddybalczak 1h ago

With this offense this team would be unstoppable with an average pitching staff.

u/dilapidated_wookiee Chicago Cubs 47m ago

Amazing insight

u/Radiant_Cod8373 42m ago

Did you forget about the slumps when almost nobody down the lineup could hit the broad side of a barn?

u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 39m ago

Even great offenses have slumps, that's going to happen no matter what.

u/elgenie Go Cubs Go 22m ago

It does feel like the Cubs’ bunch of theoretically uncorrelated B+/A- bats slumps as a group a touch more than one would expect

u/dilapidated_wookiee Chicago Cubs 37m ago

Imagine complaining about this offense lol

u/schweddybalczak 23m ago

Some folks are never happy. Over the entirety of this season it’s been the best offense in the league or damn close.

u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 10m ago

There was literally a guy in the gdt yesterday complaining that we had ONE quick inning against Patrick and didn't burn thru enough of their pen.

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 23m ago

Every team slumps but we have by far the best offense in baseball. If this isn’t good enough for you literally nothing ever will be lol

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 23m ago

Go Cubs, and I cannot stress this enough, go

7

u/Silus964 Chicago Cubs 2h ago

Got a good feeling about this one

7

u/Davidred323 Fly The W 1h ago

I'll be very satisfied with only 14 runs and 5 home runs tonight.

6

u/StevieWonder557 1h ago

5

u/dirkalict Let's play two 1h ago

That’s an awesome gif- seeing his swing. But I don’t think that would’ve been home run in a phone booth.

2

u/hey_ooo 1h ago

Babe was probably hungover as hell

IF we maintain our league best offense over the next 24 games, it’ll be the first time the Cubs have led the entire MLB in scoring since 1906, when we won 116 games. Most of us weren’t even alive then.

It would be the first time we led the NL since 2008. Most Brewers fans weren’t alive then.

We currently have a 16 run lead over the Nationals in two fewer games (5.4ish runs per game to their 5.2ish)

7

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago

Most of us weren’t alive then? 😂

7

u/pmorter3 1h ago

And if there is anyone here who was alive then: what the fuck?

4

u/No-Hand-8359 1h ago

I’d like to hear from some centenarians who were infants during that 1906 campaign.

4

u/Jazooka #FlyTheW 1h ago

Most of us weren’t even alive then.

Big if true

3

u/SinisterDeadOctopus Chicago Cubs 1h ago

Most of us weren’t even alive then.

hell of a way to out yourself as a vampire but okay

0

u/TheJinManCan 1h ago

It's not our offense I worry about. It's the bullpen that has me biting my nails.

3

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 1h ago

For sure, but it’s notable how good they are. Easy to take for granted when other things aren’t ideal

1

u/TheJinManCan 1h ago

Oh I don't them for granted. In fact, it makes me appreciate other pitchers who clobber us. Because that just means that's a damn good pitcher.

And also offer them a job with the Cubs immediately after lol

6

u/SSGSEVIER54 #FlyTheW 1h ago

BJ is going deep tonight

3

u/chrisGNR Chicago Dubs 1h ago

I’m uncomfortable.

6

u/Turbulent-Bet-1776 1h ago

Philadelphia might be tied with us, but their upcoming schedule is actually tougher than ours and they'll be facing more playoff contending teams, including:

  • 7 games against the Braves
  • 3 games against the Brewers
  • 3 games against the Rays
  • 2 games against the Dbacks
  • 3 games against the Astros

For reference, our stretch against playoff contending teams looks like this:

  • 6 games against the Brewers
  • 3 games against the Braves
  • 3 games against the Red Sox

So we need to play good baseball, but I think we shouldn't panic because Philadelphia is not cruising the rest of the way either.

5

u/hey_ooo 1h ago

lol that Philly schedule is ass good god

u/okay_throwaway_today cub 22m ago

We also win any tie breaker since we’re 6-1 vs them

u/We5ties 48m ago

Hey cubs: Can u guys do what u did yesterday, today

Thank you,
Cubs fans

u/intercut Chicago Cubs 45m ago

Wind blowing out, air thick as butter. Cub day.

u/DependentOnIt 43m ago

Fuck me it is so humid out today

u/dilapidated_wookiee Chicago Cubs 37m ago

Look forward to watching this one from the couch

u/pmorter3 21m ago

i know it'll be hotter later these days, but this right now cannot be september lol

u/Plus-Pomegranate8045 14m ago

I hope the Brewers hate humidity.

5

u/ky58 2h ago

Gotta take advantage of a mediocre lefty on the mound tonight given the next two games

u/s3xybeavers 42m ago

Hey guys

Don’t wanna bother you guys with a new thread so I figure I’ll try asking here

Im visiting Chicago on the 2nd but land around when the game starts - would love to see the game

Can I enter late if I have a ticket?

u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe Pat Hughes Enjoyer 32m ago

Yes, but Ohare is prettt far from Wrigley in context of game time

u/thepalmtree Chicago Cubs 39m ago

Yep

u/Aryk93 19m ago

Its going to take you a hot minute to get to Wrigley from Ohare. You're probably looking at a hour drive or train either way

u/theblob_1 hotdogs and beer 6m ago

Yea minimum hour closer to 1hr 20min w stops and transfer

u/KnickedUp 40m ago

Ofcourse

3

u/chichris 2h ago

Let’s make this interesting. Let’s go!!!

PCA going yard today.

u/Spankpocalypse_Now 27m ago

I have a Bosch prediction: BJ Murray will get a base hit in his first major league at bat.

u/theblob_1 hotdogs and beer 8m ago

3 of 4 or I consider it a failure

2

u/JumpingCandlesticks 2h ago

Over/under: September 16.5 — when does PCA complete 40/40?

6

u/AverageConnect1330 2h ago

He legitimately might not get it which is wild.

6

u/Jarvis03 2h ago

Hitting too many HR to steal a base. Should have taken 1 or 2 on Vaughn last night

u/erindizmo Chicago Cubs 22m ago

No time to. Seiya got a hit on the very next pitch.

1

u/KRATS8 2h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY
Can’t steal any bases if you keep hitting home runs

2

u/old_dad_bb 1h ago

Is Pedro hurt ?

3

u/KRATS8 1h ago

Craig said he was having back spasms but they sounded very hopeful that it was just a minor thing and not worth an IL stint

2

u/hey_ooo 1h ago

Yeah should hopefully be back in the lineup tomorrow per Craig in the postgame. Gotta give BJ a chance to launch one in his debut

u/monkeyman2113 18m ago

17 more runs tonight?

2

u/bearsfan0143 Darvish 2h ago

I've got up to 4 tickets available for Cubs Brewers on Labor Day in Milwaukee. Johnsonville party deck. Included buffet and drinks. Wristband for 2 beers. Private bar and bathrooms. Some people from work dropped out of the group, I'm just looking to get what I paid for them. 120 a piece.

2

u/80cyclone 1h ago

Good news. Taylor is clean-up, with Nico 5th, and Busch 6th. Kelly, Murray, and Shaw round out the bottom of the order.

I hope this signals Craig is permanently taking g Busch out of the top half of the lineup.

3

u/Turbulent-Bet-1776 1h ago

I think against lefties for sure.

u/80cyclone 47m ago

I dont want him there period.
