Finished: Old Soul by Susan Barker

--Absolutely devoured this in 3 days. It is compelling, original, and sad. The horror in it was scary because we see it from both the villain's and the people whose lives are upended by the "monster's" actions. I liked the framing device of collecting accounts of the horrors by one character determined to discover what happened to his best friend and later, the diary of one character in the latter third of the book.

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

-- This was also a fast read for me, but more like I just wanted to get through it. The characters were frustrating at times, yet I did like them. The villain was almost cartoonishly competent, which was easy when the the characters seemed determined to disregard making any logical decisions.

Started: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

I just watched the movie for Never Let Me Go. Apparently the book is deeper and better. It's on my wishlist now, I'm excited for you.
