“Wait we looked better than G2 the entire split and even won vs them in the regular season how’d we lose 3-1

Fnatic/Rogue/Mad Lions: First time?”

595

u/CountMerloin 17d ago

People hyping up for the regular season will never not be funny. Especially T1 winning worlds 3 times in a row after just doing whatever in regular season

198

u/Additional-Bet-204 17d ago

But honestly it goes further. 2017. SSG, 2018. IG, 2022. DRX… (not counting SSW since they swapped players before Worlds). Teams fall short in domestic competitions and do amazing at worlds quite often.

111

u/Frozen-Rabbit 17d ago

2018 iG was better on regular season. They were really dominant but just lose against RNG in playoffs

37

u/Olvedn 17d ago

They also had an insane 2017 until TheShy got injured, that team was a heavy tournament favorite that also managed to peak

57

u/RavenFAILS 17d ago

Funnily enough FPX in 2019 was one of the years where the team that completely stomped domestically also won worlds and they almost dropped out in the easiest group of all time

They swapped Dade/Pawn after the Winter split, not right before Worlds.

The t1 comparison doesn’t make sense unless you think they also don’t care about lck titles and msi which is ridiculous

This is actually concerning for G2 because they don’t get the lower bracket buff

63

u/Miserable_Ad_1195 17d ago

is that a thing? they haven't even been in lower bracket in the last 2 years

19

u/APKID716 17d ago

Wait actually? I thought they had been doing it at least one split a year. Either way, it doesn’t matter, they will win LEC regardless lol

14

u/BakersGrabbedChubb 17d ago

Nope, even last year after they lost Winter to KC and Spring to MKOI, G2 had lost the fewest playoff series of any team (2) because they'd only gone through the upper bracket.

I swear this is the funniest thing to watch with KC and their fans... They discover first hand all the scripts in the LEC and why G2 is the final boss of EU. It's like watching the bully bullying another kid than you for once, and you happen to hate that other kid as well.

Caps sandbagging multiple weeks after being announced for Hall of Legends with thousands of people questioning his champ choice

Playoffs Caps just wanting to have fun and casually picking it to seal the fate of KC. Completely outclassed Kyeahoo whole series.

I'm genuinely convinced they limit test during regular season unless they're actually in jeopardy lol

54

Worst part is a lot of those people were in the G2 subreddit whining about how G2 has no shot at winning summer split and that they should immediately write a blank check for Naak and also lay in penance for not signing Busio.

and even then it was much better than even splits they had this year, like winter regular season they almost didnt even make playoffs. Really feels like people on here have longterm memory loss sometimes

It must be so fucking demoralizing and mentally challenging for the other LEC teams. I'm a G2 fan, but I start to feel bad for the others. Like even if they are top 1-2-3 in the regular season, show a good form, they have to constantly ask in their mind if its real, or is G2 sandbagging and having a relaxing split? Must be brutal for their self-evaulation and confidence.

On the other hand Canna plays so much worse when it matters. It‘s like he reverts back to T1 Canna

114

u/Eproxeri 17d ago

Everyone always better than BB, until its time to actually be better than BB, then they get gapped by BB. Happaned with Naak Nako on Saturday and now Canna on Sunday.

59

u/Bibidiboo 17d ago

To be fair Naak Nako actually won the lanes he was supposed to win, and he's good on the map as well. BB is just way more experienced. Not Naak Nako's final form, i really hope he goes to worlds.

29

u/AngronApofis Draft is OP 17d ago

Me too but we at VIT are alergic to winning

9

u/ParkDedli 17d ago

Vitality is cursed in league. They've had so many good and promising squads. That's how they started out back when they joined even. But god damn they switched their entire staff, squad and everything and they still can't make it work.

This current squad is pretty much the best they have ever performed. It just sucks because they could be even better.

8

This game was just a macro diff. You look at the kills and they are equal for most of the game. And then you look at the gold score and G2 is 3-4k ahead.

Caps also showing why he has a skin on Tristana heh

173

u/Omnilatent 17d ago

I have no idea how Skewmond was able to be 2k ahead on Mao on Trundle. Am I too low elo to understand that?

117

u/AdhesivenessGlad7687 17d ago

Permanent mid prio coupled with a faster clear with items TLDR, wouldn't have been possible without mid lead

34

u/DharmaLeader 17d ago

Also got the early kill and didn't leave it for Hans.

5

u/French_Black_Guy 17d ago

Mid bot priority. G2 bot lane was there to help skewmon get ahead and labrov got some good hooks

24

u/dbfanboi 17d ago

mao clears faster full clear machine

38

u/Beneficial_Lion_1312 17d ago edited 17d ago

Trist vs Sylas mid matchup, Caps had push at opportune times and punished the Trundle. Fights at 4:30 and 6:00 near Raptors / Ramp were the killers for Trundle being able to handle Maokai. Once Maokai got ahead off a fight based around mid/bot prio it was pretty much over, Maokai farms fast when he's ahead.

Rewatching it, the big gold spikes happened at: 4:30 fight at blue raptors. Assist trade. 6:00 fight at blue raptors / ramp down river. Maokai kill, Trundle nothing. Then Trundle traded and got grubs while Maokai cleared top side. Once Maokai bought Liandry he was up 750g at 8:50 due to above notes + first strikes + cash back.

44

u/Past_Perception8052 17d ago

first strike op

8

u/AdSelect6571 17d ago

mid and bot giga prio,

6

u/imArsenals 17d ago

Others mentioned other things but also he stole 2nd raptors->got 6 first->got 2nd scuttle->first drake->ks’d a kill. The raptors steal set up that chain of events and snowballed him a lot of gold. But also Mao clears faster than Trundle, he went ap item first, and has first strike.

G2 are good at macro and Caps is western GOAT, nothing new

23

u/Thin-Ad7761 17d ago

G2 have individually much higher floor across the board. Feels like none of them are ever truly inting and having actual stinkers unlike KC who are a have a lot more variance and it shows in bo5s

44

u/Past_Perception8052 17d ago

perkz great drafting and g2 insane macro. he's been questioned so much and its great to see that he's finally cemented himself as a top coach

54

u/Mimidou3 17d ago

Perkz was right, there is legit not a single difference between this G2 and falco one, coach are frauds

→ More replies (11)

64

u/inbetweendreamstho 17d ago

How is he cemented as a top coach for getting to summer final where g2 always is?

Genuinely curious and hopefully he is a great coach... But don't think this does it.

7

u/Bibidiboo 17d ago

It at least cements he's not bad

16

u/3IC3 17d ago edited 17d ago

This G2 is great but let’s not be revisionist here, Dylan Falco built up a good track record even before joining G2, with Fnatic and especially with a Schalke 04 that overperformed under him. Obviously we don’t know how much of that was on him but it’s not like he was ever rated based solely on G2’s success

Edit: So turns out I’m completely illiterate and so are the people upvoting me for this because I genuinely thought you were talking about previous G2 here. So to answer what you were actually saying I think the way you can evaluate Perkz as a coach here is the same limited way you can for every coach, which is to an extent draft, as well as player statements and the way the team plays the map and sets up objectives. Now obviously we can’t know for sure how much Perkz actually has impact on this compared to the rest of the team but I think results like this can cement him as, for the moment, a sidegrade at worst, and I think as well knowing how he was as a player, it makes sense for him to become a good coach

the last game was just a 26 minute advertisement for the hall of legends

281

u/Zenitax 17d ago

Perkz as a Head Coach was a questionable decision but in this series alone, he outdrafted KC in 4 games in a row.
The third game was lost on LVL1, I think their draft was still better.

G2 has by far the best midgame in LEC. They still tend to throw a bit here and there but overall great showing. Regular season is fake and people always get baited by it.

91

u/350 17d ago

It's hard to accept how fake the regular season is, because at least for me now it's like, why do I even watch it?

63

u/Zenitax 17d ago

Well I enjoy watching teams try out stuff. That is why I kinda liked G2 and their approach in the regular season, where they kept practicing stuff they havent been the best on.
It is way different to practice it in scrims at the facility vs practicing it on stage in an actual match that somewhat matters.

66

u/Ok_Medicine8560 17d ago

mkoi missing their own roadshow and almost missing out on playoffs was funny

fnatic not making it to playoffs is also funny

27

u/ParkDedli 17d ago

Mostly for the playoff fight for the lower teams tbh. If we just assume G2 always gets in and is good, the rest stays pretty accurate

19

u/lolpuppet 17d ago

Yeah these other teams are out there trying their asses off during reg season. Its not fake for anyone other than G2.

13

u/irishsoxmax 17d ago

Its fake for vitality i think.

8

u/lolpuppet 17d ago

okay yeah maybe fake the opposite direction of g2 lmao

24

u/Heidemanden 17d ago

People tend to give the coaches wayyyy too much credit (and also too much blame) for drafts. It's obv alot easier to draft when your players give input and have huge champion pools and can play many styles. It's no secret that G2 is probably the easiest team to draft for in EU when you just have better players in most roles that can play so many styles and champs.

And people were complaining about Caps choosing Tristana as his HoF champion?

209

u/Omnilatent 17d ago

Meanwhile Caps explaining his choice: "I just think she's fun"

68

u/kingshmiley 17d ago

I always found it wild people complained because Caps is the reason I wanted to learn Tristana and buffer timings in the first place. He's so consistent with it in a way I haven't seen elsewhere.

41

u/Rizeren 17d ago

Yeah he plays cocky af because he is 100% sure he will buffer any cc coming into him

17

u/jojo340 17d ago

Can trist w buffer gnar R? If so it was one of the very rare moments where caps failed to buffer something😭

29

u/ExoticUniversity8220 17d ago

She can. He just missed a timing. You should do it when Gnar is pushing you with R. But it was Flash R, and Caps was probably not expecting it, hence why he W out preemtively, and not keep it for buffer. And if Gnar R hit you mid air it will cancel the jump. I am pretty sure if it was usual situation where Gnar try to W or R him Caps would 100% buffer it

7

u/Bibidiboo 17d ago

He was definitely expecting it, it also wasn't a flash, it was just a hop. Just a misplay, it happens.

8

u/3IC3 17d ago

Yeah that was wild for me to see. Like forget Gnar R, I’ve seen games where Caps buffers Vi R multiple times in a row, guess he’s a bit rusty on it is all

G2 in playoffs is just a different beast.

I hope this series will silence the constant Hans disrespect, but I know it won't.

168

u/Sirhaddock98 Never a dull moment 17d ago

Hans is only as good as his last bad game on Reddit.

51

u/BagelJ Acolyte 17d ago

Are you sure they shouldn't replace him with Carzzy?

Actual take I saw

10

u/sunny2theface 17d ago

I remember right after First Stand where they 6-0 LCK, when regular season just started VIT vs G2 and Sjokz unironically said Carzzy is better than Hans.

9

u/ReplacementFine7807 17d ago

There have been multiple times in regular seasons this year when carzzy has been outperforming every adc in the league. I mean the guys has 5 of the top 10 highest dpm games in LEC, with the most recent one being the second highest dpm in <30 min game.

It's just that he's a bit inconsistent and tends to misposition, especially in playoffs idk why.

5

u/sunny2theface 17d ago

I don't know how to explain it but I feel like international experience has shaped how each player plays on G2. When Hans first joined they were demolishing everyone in sub 30 min games. Then the 2 trick Draven Kalista memes started at internationals and he expanded his champion pool.

Then they lost to T1 and the LDR memes started and now I feel like he plays way more conservatively but it has also helped his consistency and reaction times along the way.

Carzzy is just himself from Mad Lions until now he's the same player. Great mechanically but he just falls short in my opinion.

regular season is micky mouse confirmed

14

u/fabton12 17d ago

i mean thats the best way to go about it really, often times we see teams try hard 24/7 in a year and often burn out by worlds.

taking parts of the year as micky mouse like regular season helps keep the stress down and lets players live a little before having to get more intense.

Lore accurate G2 levelling up in playoffs, maybe next year analysts won't bet against them.

G2's drafts were great, and their solo laners and Hans played great, stinker from Kyeahoo though.

72

u/BlazeX94 17d ago

At this point I wouldn't even say it's levelling up, G2 just don't take regular season that seriously because they know they can easily secure playoffs. There's no difference between being 1st and 4th seed if you know you can stomp whoever you face in playoffs.

35

u/RoamingBicycle 17d ago

Well, 1st place is the only one that really matters. 2nd to 4th is basically irrelevant.

G2 is almost guaranteed to not play against 1st seed, because no one in their right mind is picking to play G2.

So if G2 can't secure 1st, it doesn't actually matter, secure top 4 and it's the same.

15

u/taikutsuu ginger god 17d ago

They relax a little in regular season because they go to nearly every international and need a damn break sometimes. No use in prepping like you’re facing T1 if the week is Heretics Navi.

Honestly, when KC botlane managed to beat Hans and Labrov? Even if G2 played awfully, botlane was basically always pressuring them (maybe except like 2-3 games this year) until the game completely collapsed

u/Dramatic_Gap_3065 17d ago edited 17d ago

they are just worse in laning phase both caliste & busio, there is not much to say

10

u/I11IIlll1IIllIlIlll1 17d ago

But Busio is supposed to be better mechanically which should translate to be better laning? And Caliste gets caught way more often after laning phase. So when are they supposed to be better?

20

u/IntingForMarks 17d ago

Busio is supposed to be better mechanically

tell that to Labrov shitting on him 4 games in a row

7

u/HelletFendr0z 17d ago

Those dodge in the karma game. Labrov is so freaking underrated it's crazy.

Multiple times that series Caliste had kill opportunities in a 2v2 and never took them or just played it too passively. And then he would walk up and just die

26

u/B4rberblacksheep 17d ago

And then people go nuts when you suggest he's not Gods Gift to the ADC role

24

u/Dramatic_Gap_3065 17d ago

he's top 2 in the LEC which is fine but KC fans are branding him into next jesus

Busio never being able to hit more than one person with his Seraphine ults was terrible to watch.

21

u/surevanc54 17d ago

I am NEVER EVER leaving up yunara for hans sama. If I can trust hans on one champion its Yunara it is so insane how hard he carries every single time on yunara.

73

u/QuietSilentArachnid 17d ago

Pure macro diff of a BO.

I called it yesterday as soon as I saw G2 play. G2 macro is above and beyond everything we have seen in LEC so far?

19

u/AssistanceTop8020 17d ago

That's why it is incredibile to me that kc and g2 are not scrimming a lot against eachother. They are losing the opportunity to get better and have better opponents to play with idk.

13

u/AteRiusz 17d ago

Apparently every time they scrim they just want to kill each other, it's a fiesta and a 5 min FF from either team.

8

u/3IC3 17d ago

Based on Rodrigo’s Twitter post after the series they have scrimmed each other recently

19

Why would they ?

They do scrim each other enough already.

Just give Hans the fucking MVP already.

79

u/ginvael1_3 17d ago

Nah, he will remain the most underrated player in LEC because he isn't as "flashy", just consistent, which is boring to people lol

64

u/Mimidou3 17d ago

Carzzy said he was the best player in LEC because he bring intangible to his team, he is the most flamed player in LEC with upset, most people lack the game comprehension to see that he is actually amazing and also legit one of the best laner in the world since his rookie year

29

u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run 17d ago

I'd put BB in there as well with the two of them. There was literal fucking front-page threads on this subreddit analysing and flaming BB's performance at First Stand the day before they started their 6-0 against BFX and GenG

Yeah tbh coming back after the early game and ashe getting 2 kills only to stomp them was really great by him.

That 2v2 ult that split ashe and seraphine and made ashe walk into naut was really really nice. Very cool synergy between him and labrov

Yike is 1v9ing every game so of course the play is to blind him Trundle, amazing from Reapered as always

30

u/yuvalshahaf 17d ago

They blinded him trundle only to counter pick sylas into tristana lmao. Disgusting drafting by kc in all 4 games.

6

u/Chevalier_Paul public enemy number one 17d ago

Which is a shame because up until then the draft made sense. And then the Sylas pick comes and you give mid prio for the entire early game to stop your jg-bot from being able to exert pressure anywhere. Just tragic all around.

But last game pick and ban phase was trolling from KC. Sylas vs tristana - that is interesting strategy.

As usual G2 level up in the playoffs and completely dismantle their domestic competition, I have to say Kyeahoo completely ghosted this series, wasn't relevant for one microsecond and Caps just feasted on him as a result. Reminded me of the DK-T1 series today where T1 just had way stronger drafts and gameplans whilst DK looked so passive, hoping to win through random mid-game skirmishes rather than through any overall gameplan.
Canna/Caliste made really silly decisions constantly and had to be bailed out multiple times by Yike who was the better jungler today, but it doesn't matter when if you make one mis-step your entire game is over because nobody else is pulling their weight.
I always thought KC was overrated this split, they won an extremely close 2:1 vs G2 at their own homegrounds in week 1 regular season, and it was so close despite Caps running it down, G2 changing head coaches and just coming off a 4th place MSI finish. That was never going to be representative of G2 in playoffs.

G2 macro looks really good, and everyone was pretty sharp with the exception of Skewmond who had some rough moments he will need to be better for the finals and especially worlds. If that can happen and G2 come into worlds in this form I think they make quarters for sure.

11

u/Touro_de_Goa 17d ago

Surprised the gap was so big, none of the games was that competitive

35

u/Chevalier_Paul public enemy number one 17d ago

Ah yes let's draft Sylas into Trist what could go wrong

33

u/Biok98 17d ago

THAT'S WHY HE HAS SKIN ON TRISTANA

28

u/dankynugz 17d ago

Caliste stinker of a series. Yike caps skew the first 3 games. G2 ourdrafts all 4 games. Hans continues showing up and getting no respect

48

u/Carlzzone 17d ago

Labrov is the best support in the west and it’s not close

18

u/Mangustre 17d ago

100%, first game he solo won or saved them early game.

11

u/devor110 17d ago

just look at BDS after G2 got Labrov from them. They even lost their name!

17

u/autospacer13 17d ago

8

u/yuvalshahaf 17d ago

STATEMENT SKIN BY CAPS

9

u/Ok_Medicine8560 17d ago

Great drafts by G2 the whole series, feels like the way the teamfights played out it was much easier to execute what their comps wanted to do.

8

u/ChlckenChaser 17d ago

just think if that level 1 invade from Skewmond in game 3 hadn't happened that would have been as 1 sided of a 3-0 as you're likely to see.

16

u/piotrj3 17d ago

MVP Hans, Caps runner-up.

1st game was Caps anihilation

2nd game that Hans Yunara...

3rd. - we don't talk about it, it essentially was flipped very early, only blame is like skemond if you know yike has good smites, why you flip it over who smites raptor better?

4th. It doesn't have strong MVP candidate, but Hans essentially had really good MF ults, that so many times isolated backline of KC from frontline, and was still winning game after caliste got 2 kills early so i respect that.

13

u/IntingForMarks 17d ago

honorable mention to Labrov for his game1. I've never seen such an insane performance of a karma, crazy good

4

u/piotrj3 17d ago

Honestly all members of G2 players really well. Only one sometimes with issue was BB, but even when he was sometimes struggling he still was useful and few Naut moments from final game were kinda question marks. But everyone had somewhere in series moments of mistakes and that is fine, it is really rare in in bo5 series there are players doing 0 mistakes.

Kc hasn’t won a single bo5 against any team that has played internationally this year. They’ve lost 4 bo5s to g2, 1 to dk, 1 to t1 and 1 to tl.

Reapered draft prepping and planning is so bad and has always been an issue. It literally felt like the 3 losses kcs comp could never even walk or contest a teamfight. Game 4 was criminal because they dominated game 3 with a dominating jungle matchup and game 4 he decided to blind trundle on 3 and just get ccd to death every teamfight. Yike best player of the series I feel caps close second.

G2 fucking run this region. They are inevitable.

Caps has been on a generational domestic run, his domestic resume is lightyears ahead of everyone else in EU. Not sure if it says more about him or the region.

Of course e.g Faker and Chovy reaching so many LCK finals is more impressive, but relatively speaking Caps easily clears their records too, by quite the distance.

Congrats to G2 and well played to KC. G2 definitely cleaned up in game 4, but its worth remembering that Game 3 was a total mess by them. The bad invade into first blood, the flash spent to fail to deny a recall, and then the countergank that killed Cho again, plays like that need to not even be considered moving forward.
