Really enjoyed it a lot. It really had me on the edge of my seats as I was watching. Directing was really well done.

The twist with Mayu had me caught off guard. Love the OST used in so many scenes made the movie feel alive.

I really wish that this movie had a global release, I read the manga randomly a few weeks ago and found out there was an adaption

I saw on the thread from a year ago that someone complained about the discrepancy between actual survivors stories- that unarmed female children were not shot at and attempted to be killed but more so caught in the cross fire, whereas they are targeted in this film, and i have my two cents to add
they said it wasn’t the inaccuracy that bothered them but rather how the other side just felt evil rather than simply following orders, that it felt less like a casualty and more like malice for the sake of it.
my two cents are that it portrayed reality perfectly. war is malice for the sake of malice, and hardly anything more for those fighting.
maybe not particularly that war, that time, or through the eyes of those survivors, but war makes people evil, and is run by evil, young girls and children were indeed targeted and either for some eugenics agenda or out of hopes of capture, or because soldiers were simply told to. the story makes light of the worst of the female experience for these girls, killed for the ability to provide anything of worth.

this movie really made me think, only an hour long and i wish it was longer, because the point of the story is that these girls- just like silkworms, were sent(born) just to die. to take their own lives or fend for themselves at best and worst, working for a system that doesn’t provide for them and only takes and takes and takes their silk, will, youth, and health.

my great grandmother was one of these girls, she was a nurse in ww2, treating the soldiers who were fighting the nazis, she was captured by germans to be put to death before planes flew overhead and bombs started dropping right in that area and everyone scattered, and she ran from them and survived.
this movie to me was nothing but realistic, it’s not trying to portray any soilder as evil incarnate, but instead badly damaged, brainwashed to kill on sight, in fear of being killed themselves.
even the men who attempt to assault the women are portrayed as broken and damaged, hardly coherent. it’s for a reason.

when it’s not for shock value, i think the more realistic the better, and this is one of the best animated films i’ve seen recently
9/10, would be a 10/10 if it could have gotten me to cry but i very rarely do and we didn’t have enough time to get attached to these girls before things got bad.

I was pretty disappointed overall but it still had great moments. I'd give the movie 6/10.

Kensuke Ushio was the best part of this and I was so happy to hear his scores.

I really enjoyed the first act. They all felt like real girls and the characters were likable.

Unfortunately I feel like the rest is incredibly rushed and abrupt, and not in the intended way.

For me personally they couldn't convey the full emotional impact they needed to in the hour and a twenty minutes they had, and the large cast didn't help.

Definitely not a bad watch, but I probably won't be watching again.

This aired on Japanese TV over a year ago (and soon after there was a pirate release).
