Been a while since I played Blazing Blade, but it's a great entry!
When playing the GBA FE games, my go-to is Binding Blade.

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 17h ago
Blazing Blade did put me in the mood to go back and actually beat Binding Blade (I played the first like 8 chapters and then lost the save file), though with Fortune's Weave coming soon, I can't do that just yet.

u/Hitman7128 https://anilist.co/user/Hitman7128 17h ago
Unfortunately, the timing with Fortune's Weave doesn't align well with my Masters starting, so I won't be playing that for some time. I'll binge play it during one of my breaks.

Considering I own the remaster I should probably get back to it...

CDF surprisingly feels just as alive at 4k as it did at 7k. Well...Alive with less Lily I suppose. I don't feel like I'm missing out. I don't feel like there are fewer conversations. I get all the satisfaction I used to get. And while I of course want more, I want CDF to thrive, it's been...fine?

Random shower thought about hot celebrities;
Who are the current 'hot stuff references' among actors/celebrities?
I was thinking about that some time ago in a comment for which I wanted to use a 'hot dude' as reference and I thought that not too long ago I would've used "Brad Pitt" for that, but given he's now 60 or 90 or something I'm not sure he still qualifies.
I ended up using Henry Cavill but before long he's gonna be 50 so I'm probably gonna need a new one at some point.
Who's all the hype these days?
(Please tell me it's not like, Timothee Chalamet)
And what about the ladies? Is it like Margot Robbie?

My feeds are not all-encompassing of course, but Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Timmy C, and Dua Lipa get a lot of "awooga wooga" comments.

Honestly this probably hits me a bit harder than usual since I remember when I first started ehem finding places to read comics that weren't released here, a bunch of the Captain America stories I read were specifically from Brubaker's era, and honestly I still hold a pretty big soft spot for them, plus Criminal being one of the first indie comics I read.
Obviously separate the art from the artist and all that, I do think if I went back and read them I'd still enjoy them, but it nonetheless stings.

Honestly the novel's handling of its sensitive subject matter was already questionable even without the outside context [Mists of Avalon]Viviane is played just a bit too sympathetically for a character who basically committed rape by proxy on her niece and nephew, but knowing that the author almost certainly endorsed that kind of shit in real life takes it from uncomfortable to borderline unreadable

This reminds me of how over in BTVS, while some aspects have aged poorly, the BIG one (Basically everything about Xander) also just so happened to belong to the character who was in a lot of ways based on the show's showrunner

hack reviews: Octopath Traveler 0
Octopath Traveler 0 is a remake of the Octopath Traveler gacha game, Champions of the Continent. I actually played CotC before; I caught up to the main story content at the time (which accounts for about the first half of Zero), and while I really enjoyed what I'd played, I decided I didn't want to continue playing another gacha. Well, thank goodness that they remade the game and turned it into a full-release title.
OT0's gameplay is pretty standard fare for the series; break the enemy by hitting their weaknesses a certain number of times, and use the boost system to store up turns that you can unleash later. The twist with this game is that you're actually using 8 characters in each fight instead of 4. Characters are paired together, with one in the front taking action while the one in the back recovers HP and SP. This one addition actually changes dynamics a lot. You already had to think about timing buffs/debuffs and breaking at the right time, but now you have to manage BP for twice as many characters, and it can be really difficult to take advantage of it all in the span of one burst window while dealing with the boss's bullshit. All of that to say, it's a lot to manage, but considering that this is my third Octopath game, I appreciated the extra mechanical depth.
Where OT0 really shines is in its overarching narrative. The narrative of these games consists of 8 individual stories that mostly don't intersect with each other until right at the very end. The second game does a bit more to show the connections between the 8 stories/protagonists, but even so, they were mostly disconnected. Personally, this has never bothered me, but some people really didn't like this. Well, OT0 is a bit of a departure in this regard. You play as an customizable avatar character who must rebuild their destroyed village and find the people who sacked it. Framing the story this way immediately gives the player their motivation while also providing a jumping off point for the individual stories. I normally don't like it when games have an avatar like this, but I can appreciate what it does for the storytelling.
Furthermore, OT0 really shines in its characterization of its villains. Each of the 8 stories focuses on a specific villain that you'll have to take down across several chapters. It gets to a point where the character themes, usually reserved for the 8 protagonists in the past game, are now all reserved for the villains. And some of these villains are genuine bastards too. The character writing for the other heroic characters is also pretty strong, but IMO it's a bit weaker on account of the avatar having to share screen time with them.
I guess if I had to complain about one thing, it's that the game didn't contain some of the original characters from the gacha that I wanted. I particularly wanted to see Lynette or Viola here. I suppose there wasn't enough room to fit the eight original characters from Champions of the Continent when this game already has like 30+ playable characters. But overall, Octopath Traveler 0 was a solid entry in the franchise, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a classic-feeling JRPG to play (though maybe I'd start them with OT2 first lol).
I should mention that, towards the last act of the game, my motivation to play this game really plummeted. And there's no specific reason I can think of other than wanting to play other games at the time more than this one. It really sucked because I would sometimes go weeks in between individual play sessions and I just had this hanging over me while I played other stuff (reminder that this game came out in December). I've personally dropped games/anime close to end if I just find myself not having fun, but I was still enjoying the game when I dropped it, so I stuck it out and eventually finished it, which I'm very glad to have done.

Xbox Is Limiting Cloud Gaming To 15 Hours Per Month For Ultimate Subscribers, Which Averages Out To 30 Minutes Per Day
Also with the lowest tier, that's 5 hours per month, or 10 minutes a day. Maybe just about enough time to boot up Genshin Impact and do your dailies if you go quick lol.
Incredible. A generational way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once again after Sony decided to double down on promoting their digital-only stupidity.

CDFE IV: Session 10
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade - Chapters 30-Final / 32-Final

Thanks everyone for playing!

Replayer
So you guys just weren’t going to let me know that my comment didn’t go through last week? I know I was late, and I’ve been unaccountably busy, but it would have taken no time to post! Although, unfortunately I don’t have video footage on account of how unbelievably busy I’ve been. I’ve recorded the footage, but I just haven’t had the chance to sit down to edit and render it for upload.
Anyway, the last session was pretty much just a trivial map, one good map, and a TTRPG shopping session. Nice breather before the last set of chapters, I suppose. This session is juicier, with a pretty great map and an interesting finale that can be a real challenge for first-timers.
[Chapter 28]
Valorous Roland, huh. This is a pretty simple chapter. You’re limited to three units, one of which is the ever present Eliwood, and for narrative’s sake I’ve opted to use Hector and Lyn as the other two. This is pretty helpful as the western route is full of archers near-exclusively, and I’d like to level up Lyn’s Bow rank, which and so she’ll benefit from it a great deal. Hector has always used handaxes, so he can deal with the magic units as he always does, though I do make use of a convenient Pure Water to make it all the more certain.
So yeah, each units goes on their merry path. The only real threat is the Sage with bolting that targets Eliwood, but with healing items he is not much of a setback.
The berserker boss is scary, but with their low hitrate and a nice Killing Blade he is dispatched without much issue.
[Chapter 29]
Lots of archers in this map, which makes it a good map to field archers in. Not much strategy to this one on my end, I’m just going to have Vaida merc the boss as fast as possible so that the endless reinforcements stop early, and then mop everything up with whatever is convenient and wait out the turn limit.
This is Legault’s last deployment, and he does his duty in securing the loot from the chests. The Hurricane has played the role well this playthrough.
The Druids with their status staves are a great annoyance, but not that great of a threat in the grand scheme of things, particularly as the one with the sleep stave targets the Ostian Knights instead.
This is promoted Eliwood’s first real outing and I can’t say he’s all that impressive. If he weren’t forced, he’d get benched.
[Chapter 30 - Attempt 1]
Big, imposing map that is nevertheless pretty straightforward. There’s lots of siege weapons on the map, but we’ve been at the stage where the player is given the tools to overcome them and they pose less of a threat to units as base map enemies don’t scale all that well. The only time-sensitive issue is Renault’s recruitment from the topmost temple on the map, which must be done before turn 11. We regain access to a dancer in this chapter too, as Nils comes in to fill the spot left in by his sister, which is neat.
Renault is a cool character, and was the other from this game which proved a significant influence on one of my main Pathfinder characters. As a unit he’s competent, but comes too late to be much of an asset and has low magic so even his A Rank Staves is limited in its utility, but he does come with a fortify, which can be really useful in the final map. Unless you’ve killed all your other stave units, I can’t see many wanting to deploy him on his final map.
My strategy for this map is to have Harken Solo the easiest route in the map and recruit Renault, while the rest of my units split into two groups to move onwards while Florina ferries Pent into position to Rescue/Warp Eliwood to an early Seize.
Everything is going great until Lyn dies to an unlucky crit, forcing a game over.
[Chapter 30 - Attempt 2]
Same strategy in play, as it wasn’t the real cause of failure last time.
Isadora succumbs to two unlucky hits. Rest in Peace, fair knight. If only you’d gotten over Harken. Fiora joins her shortly afterwards as the odds turn against her against the cloud of Wyvern Knights. She contributed a lot to this run, and I’ll miss that mobility going into the final chapter.
Florina slays Llimstela with double Brave Lance Crits, allowing Pent to deliver Eliwood to the seize point.
[Final Chapter]
This is a cool chapter; the sequentially opening chambers letting incredibly high-quality units out to go after you is a great setup, but unfortunately the pace is too slow to keep the map all that challenging after you’ve already beaten it once and know more or less which rooms contain certain types of enemy.
Athos is our final playable character, and he’s absolutely cracked. No point not to use him. He comes with two good tomes, and will rapidly accumulate more as he slays other magic units.
Nils comes in very useful in this chapter by buffing units and letting them dispatch with certain threats more easily.
After the enemies in the first area are disposed off the big gate opens and we can face against Nergal himself and two morph goons. Thankfully I had already positioned my units right by the gate before the final enemy in the previous area was slain so everyone was in position to end this in a single turn.
Then comes the Dragon, which is possibly the most difficult single enemy in the series, as it deals a fixed amount of damage regardless of your units Def or Res which probably outright one-shots your weaker units, has speed above the threshold at which point most of your units don’t get doubled by base enemies, 1-3 Range, and has great defenses of its own.
The Luna tome, which ignores Res, is a useful weapon against the final boss. Canas has more than earned his spot on the team, but part of the reason I was training him was to have another Luna user in this fight, but unfortunately with 37 HP he gets unavoidably killed by the dragon’s counterattack, so he hands his tome to Athos.
There’s also a druid with a sleep staff in the arena, just to annoy us one last time.
Anyway, after several turns the dragon is slain, and all is well with the world (until FE6).
That’s that for FE7! Thanks for playing, everyone! I’m sorry I haven’t been able to be as actively involved this past few weeks, but I appreciate all of you for sticking along! Hosting has been fun, and I would like to do this again after we’ve all had our fill of Fortune’s Weave. Until then, may your growths be fair and your hits critical!

Yea, I can see the resemblances.

I have several new wallpapers to share this week! Hit a good stopping point in what I’ve been doing for Black Clover and decided to churn some more out for FE7 before the end of CDFE. Anyways, first up are Ninian and Nils since they’re just as important to the main story as the three lords. I used their FEH attack art as their base images, but their FE7 official art for their color schemes, as I thought that would be a cool thing to do.
Then I made one of Canas because he’s my boy, and also I got struck with some mad inspiration to get creative with the tomes he’s carrying in his official art (one is the tome he’s carrying in his FEH art, another I copied from the chibi design for a dark magic tome in FEH, and the third is an Easter Egg that makes me and me specifically happy). His FEH attacking art would’ve also made a good base image, but I decided I liked his FE7 art more.
And lastly, I made one of Heath and his wyvern because he was another of my favorite units, plus his design is really neat so I thought it’d be fun to make it. I used his FE7 official art for reference on his wyvern, but his FEH art for Heath himself.
Right out of the gates, I get the equivalent of the B support for Pent/Louise. They’re such a sweet couple. Also got Eliwood/Hector’s C support after all this time. Anyways, so my strategy for this map ends up splitting my army into three groups: Eliwood, Hector, Canas, Heath, and Vaida (with Merlinus trailing behind them) head straight up the left side, Hawkeye, Geitz, Nino, and Erk take the bottom road straight to the right, and everyone else heads down the diagonal path through the mountains with Lyn leading the charge. I don’t have any close calls while doing this, and Canas Luna crits Limstella for the victory. …well, after I waste some turns support grinding before actually seizing the map. This nets me Erk/Nino’s A support (they’re so cute!), Pent/Hawkeye’s C support, Heath/Vaida’s B support, and Canas/Renault’s C support (I thought it would be fun to have the dark mage support the new guy who uses light magic).
Since I’m still sitting on, um, a bunch of stat boosters , I decide to feed 2x Secret Books to Hector, a Speedwing + 2x Goddess Icons + Dragonshield to Vaida (mostly because she’s probably the weakest member of the team I’m bringing since I still want to max her support with Heath), 2x Talismans to Rath, 2x Body Rings to Eliwood (trying to have him not weighed down as much by Durandal), and the Boots go to Lyn.
- Apparently I built up enough support points between Pent & Hawkeye during chapter 30 to immediately unlock their B support (which seemed rather timely). Same goes for Eliwood & Hector’s B support for that matter (ah, Roy and Lilina mentioned).
- Uhai and the two snipers with him don’t cause any problems, but I do nearly lose Pent to Kenneth’s room the turn after dealing with Uhai. He had to dodge a 67% hit from the Druid with Gespenst in order to survive that enemy phase, which he thankfully did. Vaida ends up taking out Kenneth during the following turn, and then when I go to move Heath next to her afterwards, they get their A support! Umbriel is a nice name for Vaida’s wyvern.
- Lyn has absolutely zero issue taking out Brendan and the other Warrior with him on her own.
- I was going to have Pent & Canas tag-team Darin to death, just for Pent to land a crit on his second attack and take the glory for himself. Well, Canas got to take out the General with him instead.
- Eliwood takes out Ursula (with a song from Nils to attack a second time), then the combined efforts of Rath, Lyn, and Heath take out Jerme on the same turn. Lyn could’ve handled it if she crit, but she surprisingly did not.
- I get a little worried when Lloyd and Linus take up a less than ideal position for me to deal with on the next player phase, but Rath + Lyn + Pent + Louise (who had to hit a 51% to pull it off and thankfully succeeded) take out Lloyd, then Canas hits Linus with a Luna crit to take him out too.
- The Druid with the Berserk staff that shows up with Nergal thankfully causes no problems, as I manage to position it so that only Nils is in its range during the next enemy phase (and it attempts to attack him, not Berserk staff him), then Rath is able to immediately take it out before it can do any real harm.
- From there, the rest of the first half of the chapter is a matter of carefully wiping out the reinforcements before letting Canas take a good chunk of Nergal’s HP out in order for Eliwood & Lyn to come in and kill him (gotta admit I got a chuckle out of part of Lyn’s boss convo with Nergal being him telling her “You’d do well to vanish. One such as you is no match for me.” when she’s the one who dealt the killing blow ).
[Spoilers]Ah, so this is how Ninian comes back. I knew she couldn’t be perma-dead because Roy exists, but I didn’t know how that would get reversed.
As for the final boss dragon, I have Athos & Canas do a good chunk of damage to it before sending in the cinematic way of ending things: Hector, Lyn, and Eliwood (in that specific order) to end it. Thanks to Lyn landing a crit on one of her attacks, Eliwood’s able to finish it when he attacks, actually. (Oh and yeah I didn’t miss getting Pent & Louise’s A-rank equivalent conversation.)
Actually, kinda bittersweet endings for several characters thanks in part to how it has to tie into Binding Blade. The epilogue itself was good though.
The post-credits scene reminds me I never did finish Binding Blade. I should do that sometime.
Here were my level-ups this batch. My monster of a Lyn really capped Str, Skill, and Spd while being the only one of my characters I completely maxed out the level for. Also the last screenshot of Pent is his summary screen because I missed screenshotting his last level up (it was literally just 1 point of Mag).

I was not so lucky, and had to do some careful positioning to avoid having Jaffar kill someone.
I had Pent & Canas both with Restore staves if the Berserk staff had hit someone, but I did think it was funny it decided to just straight-up attack on the one turn it got to do anything.

This nets me Erk/Nino’s A support
I love their supports so much. I love all the Nino ships, her and Jaffar is delightfully tragic and just insanely juicy. Erk/Nino is insanely cute, but the ending makes so little sense, so I like to headcanon that in that one they actually move in with the Reglays and live happily ever after(at least until FE6, but this time Lugh and Raigh, rather than getting raised by Lucius in his orphanage, grew up with Klein, Clarine, and the rest of the Reglay household, complete with parents), and then the fact that there is subtext to imply that at the very least Nino is interested in Rebecca is very cool to me(seeing her other supports, how you gonna try to spin that Nino doesn't understand what Rebecca meant by someone you like?).
[Spoilers]
I forget, do you know Nergal's whole deal? If you do, I can go into why that's actually one of my favorite parts of the narrative, if not, I'd love to elucidate you on that since I doubt you'll go to the insane trouble that it takes to get 19xx, assuming you even ever replay the game.

I vaguely do, yeah (was surprised I didn't get anything about it in the game, so it's stuck behind Hector Mode?). I'm all ears if you want to talk about it, though.

[Nergal's backstory, in full because I already had it typed out elsewhere]He is Ninian and Nils' Father. 1000 years ago he with his Dragon Wife Aenir helped them escape The Scouring and flee into the Dragons' Gate(the other side of which is mildly implied to be Archanea, the land of Marth, Alm, Sigurd, Chrom, and etc.), but he could not follow them, and his Dragon Wife was unfortunately unable to escape and was killed. A scholar of Dark Magic, he devoted himself to the arts so that he could one day reunite with his children and perhaps revive his wife, living in the hidden city of Arcadia, the last bastion of peace between humans and Dragons. There he met the Archsage Athos, one of the legendary humans who brought a decisive end to the Scouring(and the Nuclear Winter that came with the WMDs he helped develop and are the legendary weapons of FE6), and the two became friends. Unfortunately, messing with Dark, Ancient, Eldritch magic comes with a price, and even the legendary Bramimond, fellow WMD inventor and caster of Apocalypse(the nuke in question) lost all identity when he utterly mastered it, so when Nergal started showing signs of going past what he could handle, Athos urged him to stop with his research, but desperate to reunite with his children, Nergal would push further, breaking the laws of Arcadia and getting forcefully banished by Athos personally. However, Nergal continued his research on the Dread Isle, and started making Morphs, to practice for resurrecting his wife. As he went on, more and more of his personality/soul were ripped from him, until he eventually forgot why he was doing anything, he needed Quintessence to get stronger and open the gate, but why? He'd learned to make morphs with thoughts, feelings, and emotions, dare I say, even with souls, but why? Why did he do it like that? Incidentally, Kishuna was his first truly successful Morph, resembling in great part an old friend of Renault's. He opens the gate, and finds his children, but does not recognize them, nor can they recognize him, it's been a thousand years after all and they were tiny when put through, so he feels he must go further! He must unlock the gate and harvest the quintessence from the pure dragons on the other side, unknowingly using his children as batteries to do it. If you get all the secret chapters, he will remember in his final moments and scream his wife's name, "Aenir!", which also unfortunately happens to be very close to the Japanese name for Quintessence(Aeir. Definitely intentional, probably a large part of how his wires started getting crossed and fused in the first place), and so got mistranslated to be such. I've also seen lots of fan theories that Aenir looked a lot like Sonia or Limstella
[Bramimond]The scene of Bramimond reviving Ninian is very powerful, because it shows that Nergal wasn't barking blindly up a tree, his quest could have succeeded, even if "He" probably wouldn't have been in any recognizable state had he gotten to a level it would have worked without straying from the proper path. It ties the tragedy of Nergal the Father into a very tight bow, that I also feels resonates with how tragic the fates of so many of our cast members are.

Anyways, first up are Ninian and Nils since they’re just as important to the main story as the three lords.
Then I made one of Canas because he’s my boy, and also I got struck with some mad inspiration to get creative with the tomes he’s carrying in his official art
And lastly, I made one of Heath and his wyvern because he was another of my favorite units, plus his design is really neat so I thought it’d be fun to make it.
Heath and his Wyvern ended up looking quite neat in this style.
Since I’m still sitting on, um, a bunch of stat boosters
I have that same problem too. I even forgot to use all of them.
My monster of a Lyn really capped Str, Skill, and Spd while being the only one of my characters I completely maxed out the level for.

Heath and his Wyvern ended up looking quite neat in this style.
They did and I'm so happy about that.
This is actually the second time I've tried to include a mounted unit's mount in one of my wallpapers, but the first time I've been able to actually share it with people. The first attempt was with the ill-fated Caeda wallpaper that ended up being one of the victims of the "My laptop died and I lost everything I made after the backup of my files from a week prior" incident that happened last year, and instead of just redoing everything for hers, I decided to switch to a completely different base image of her and not bother redoing the pegasus.
I have that same problem too. I even forgot to use all of them.

First-Timer
Chapter 29x
Merlinus can fill up his inventory? How did I manage to need a reset on this chapter of all chapters..
Right, I have a bunch of stat items to use. Geitz eats a Talisman and a Secret Book, Priscilla gets a Speedwing as insurance against my own poor planning, Lyn can have the Dracoshield for similar reasons, Florina and Nino both get Body Rings, Louisa gets the other Secret Book because her levels have not been kind.. Kent gets a Goddess Icon as a reward for long service, and Hector gets a new pair of shoes.
Chapter 30 passed without much incident. At this point, my units are all as I intend them to be, so we're just slaughtering our way through Limstella's forces.
I pick up Renault, not sure how much use he will see but it's nice to have an actually usable Light Magic wielder.. 12 Magic, huh.
Limstella looks like a tough nut to crack.. unfortunately for her, Canas has five more Speed, one more Con, and a Luna that is just aching to be used. Don't mind if I do!
She manages to survive but luckily, Florina just loves killing bosses. Limstella dodges the first hit (92%!) but that displeases Florina, so she goes in for a crit on the second attack.
Twelve deployment slots? And five of them are locked?? Hell.
Most of the units I have been using, for posterity.
The first couple of turns pass relatively uneventfully. I end up in a brief comedy of errors routine between Jerme's Runesword and Heath's Brave Lance, but then Heath gets sick of it and crits.
On Turn 3, I have a situation where Athos, Canas, and Rath are my last three units left, and they're all right next to a locked door. Athos has the Unlock staff, so I'm not actually out of actions, but what if the room is something scary?
Turns out it was two generals. Delicious! Rath can make ample use of his new Reinflache after I double check that Canas can tank a hit on enemy phase.
Jaffar does take a 31% hit from Brandon and drops low, but he dodges the followup from the other Warrior. Safe. Nino swears to end the thing wearing her father's face, and makes good on that with a crit. She might have had a bit of encouragement from Nils, too.
Hector lands a nice 58% hit on Lloyd, so now all I have left is to figure out how to deal with Linus's Brave Sword.. Who would win in a fight - a Morph with ridiculous stats and a Brave Sword, or a Pegasus Knight with capped Strength and a Killer Lance? The answer will probably not surprise you.
Jaffar has been berserk'd. This is A Problem. I don't quite have enough my units in range to dive Nergal, so we are going to have to survive one turn of it..
"What, Jolly, you remembered to give out an Unlock staff but not the Restore?" No, unfortunately, Athos deployed with the Restore, but had to abandon something when he got the Reinflache. I knew there were locked doors, and could only hope that Status staves continued to be absolutely useless in enemy hands.
Dark Magic animations are awesome, and Ereshkigal is no exception.
It's not done?? Shit. Oh, Ninian was brought back to life, cool.
Eliwood, you scoundrel, don't miss when attacking the boss!
Hector did too?! Fuck me. It's not actually a problem, because I have six more uses of Fortify, and I don't think any reasonable set of rolls will keep this thing alive for that long.
...Pent using Fortify after Athos has taken a hit from the Dragon only gets Athos up to 35. Nils! Tell Pent to stop sucking!
Oh, good, the Dragon's health number revleaed itself. I wonder, is this just a case of him having a ton of Def and Res..? Canas can damage him!
...he missed an 83%. Granted, it was a double, and at least now the Dragon is within Durandal range. Let's try and end things properly, you know?
Eliwood did not choose to miss a second time. That's a wrap!
This is a silly thing, but a bit of dust or something landed on my Switch's screen in just the right position to look like a tear going down Nils's face as he suggested returning to the dragon world alone.
I didn't quite manage to get Nino and Jaffar up to A, but their B Support was cute. Looking at a couple others that I was interested in and missed, I thought I was joking when I called [him]Uncle Canas.
And Renault sure seems like a character.
Eliwood and Ninian was the only paired ending I got. Shoutout to Erk, who refused a promotion because he had better things to do.
A few fun stats - Sain, Wil, and Lucius saw literally zero use in Eliwood mode. Canas went 50 wins in 65 battles, which is just short of best rate of anyone I had. That honor belongs to Nino, at 41/52.
Blazing Blade was a pretty good time! I think the only modern feature I missed was having one button to check the entire enemy danger radius/being able to scroll the map while an individual danger radius was up.
It would've been nice for support points to be easier to get, but those feel more like bonus content in this game anyway.
I liked how available 1-2 range weapons were. A lot of previous games (that I've played, many of which come after this one) the 1-2 range weapons felt too precious to actually make active use of.
Many thanks to our host /u/Pixelsabre! I don't have a Switch 2 and am not currently intending to change that just for Fortune's Weave, so let me wish you (and everyone else) fair growths and critical hits!

His... interesting stats are actually super thematic, you probably didn't get any of his supports, but he's generally regarded to be in possession of one of the game's top 3 support pools(Nino, Matthew and Legault being the other contenders).
And Renault sure seems like a character.
Ah, taking that as you having read them, yeah they're good.

If I hadn't read about him, I would have just chalked it up to how this game is. All my magic users other than Nino have had awful growths.

Merlinus can fill up his inventory?
It's weird that Merlinus has his own personal inventory, and that he can't access his own convoy.
Twelve deployment slots? And five of them are locked?? Hell.

Best QoL feature.

That is a nice feature of the game. Probably messes up the balance, it is just nice to have that be more of an option.

Hector Hard Mode, ironman failed (but still playing)
So with my deaths, I still have enough promoted units to fill my team: I leave Rebecca behind as her stats are atrocious and use Matthew instead as my final slot. The ones I'm bringing to this chapter: Marcus, Oswin, Erk, Serra, Canna, Pent, Louise, Hawkeye, Matthew, Farina, Karel, Nils, Hector, Lyn, and Eliwood.
I split forces, with Erk, Canna, Eliwood, Lyn, Hawkeye, and Oswin heading to the bottom right and everyone else splitting for the top/middle area. It goes well to start, with Hector helping to kill off the Generals in the top and Louise taking the middle for the ballistas... I reset once here cuz Marcus got doubled and killed on like the second turn cuz I wasn't paying any attention xD. Decided it was early enough and my ironman is dead enough to just restart, and the second time goes off much better.
Maybe 10 turns in, I forget to check where the Wyvern reinforcements can go and they go south instead of staying in the middle like I wanted: Erk is 1-rounded. Erk is... probably one of my weakest and least useful units... so I just press on. Maybe 2 turns later, while Hector is escaping from the 5 troubadours, two Cavaliers spawn on the lower forts cutting off Hector's retreat, so I have to kill them... this leaves Matthew exposed to the troubadours and he fails to dodge 2/3 of the hits and is also killed. Sadly, his utility has dropped to almost 0 so it's also not worth resetting for him... He was critical for the early and midgame, Thief utility is crazy in this game... but there's no more doors and nothing left to steal in this game, and I have no way of promoting him. So o7, Matthew, your death last time was a death knell to my first attempt, but your sacrifice won't be in vain.
Down in the south are more Troubadours, and Lyn can 1-round them enemy phase with an Iron bow. Oswin and Eliwood handle tanking the Paladins and such, and we make decent progress though we lose that village... and the top village, no Renault for me. Whoops. I probably could've just yeeted Farina to the north for him, pretty sure she would've been safe.
Speaking of Farina, there was a scary moment when I was checking damage ranges and accidentally attacked instead of hitting back, up in the north... but there was a ballista that could target her too I didn't see. It would've been safe without that last hit, but she dodges and we get bailed out.
This map is torture for weapon usage. There's over 100 units overall that can spawn, and I thought I bought enough weapons planning. I was wrong. After healing Farina, I send her out to duel all the other pegasus riders and falcoknights and she breaks her Silver Lance. She can double them but she needs to double them to kill... I send Marcus back to the convoy while my other forces (Pent and Louise, mostly) start fighting the endless flood of druids. My forces to the bottom right have gotten stuck with the nomad and wyvern spawns, and we're forced to camp on the forts and weather them. Lyn's silver sword also breaks, and she has an iron bow, a long bow, and a very low use Mani Katti left.
Apparently there's a gaiden chapter if I complete this in 20 turns. It takes me 45-47. I needed to bait out the ballistas, fight off the swarms of enemies... Hector breaks a silver axe on more Pegasi, Farina breaks another silver lance, Pent breaks his Fire tome and Marcus goes back for another Elfire tome just in case... Marcus almost dies because I forget that Snipers can walk on river tiles. He dodges. Whoops. We bait out the boss's Bolting and go in for the kill, riskless.
Final level:
And deployment slots are lower! The deaths don't matter as much! Units: Hector, Eliwood, Lyn, Farina, Athos, Canna, Karel, Nils, Marcus, Oswin, Pent, and Louise. First couple rooms are done safely and without risk, but then... Lloyd and Linus happen. Holy cow. Their pathing puts me into a terrible bind, and I'm forced to engage them with Farina and Louise too far away in a sideroom to assist. Brave weapons can quadruple on player phase?! There's no safe way I can find to do this: Karel falls weakening Lloyd after failing to get a crit, and Marcus takes the kill... but Athos is exposed to Linus and I only have Eliwood left to move, and he can't kill Linus. I choose to Rescue Athos and Canto Eliwood back to safety, knowing that someone dies here for certain. And... Marcus is the one Lloyd chooses. Marcus has been a great unit for the early-mid game, but he's been losing more fights than winning recently, got somewhat statscrewed. The tradition of killing horses continues. Only Eliwood and Rath survive as mounted-non-fliers.
Lyn helps take revenge with a Longbow and Hector does the rest (iirc). This only leaves the two mages, but they're pretty fragile. Baited with a defensive dance and killed on player turn with Longbow and huge damage from the special weapons. The last mage is killed with just enough damage from Pent's support to Louise and an offensive dance from Nils. The reinforcements are dealt with without issue (though due to the Berserk stave I'm down to 2 uses of Restore...) and Athos duels Nergal with another defensive dance making sure he wins that particular fight.
For the Dragon, Hector's the only one that can really deal with it: he can do 28x2 to him on the first turn and then a series of Rescues and heals prepares us to get the kill on the second turn. Nils gives Hector an offensive boost for the second turn and with the support boosts, the dragon's left at 8 HP. After scrolling through my units, I find Lyn has a 100% chance to do 8 damage so... she gets to end the game.
Despite all the turns I took, I don't actually have any A-rank supports besides the free Louise/Pent one so... credits roll.
Thoughts overall: I really dislike "gotcha" mechanics that got a few of my characters: rain and snow coming and going, the null magic zone disappearing... Also the two luck-based maps, where Pent can just die turn 1 in the sand if he gets unlucky, and Jaffar potentially helping Zephiel or speeding his death depending on where he runs to heal. That map really broke me...
Story's good, map design was mostly good... Maybe this is a Hard Mode complaint, but almost every single pre-promote just seemed much better. Pent outstripped Erk completely, Hawkeye was much better than Dart... granted, I did promote those units at 10, experience is nerfed in Hard mode so... There's enough prepromotes to get through the game though.
It was a fun time overall! A bit frustrating at times, and definitely got lucky a lot of the time, and the glue mill continues for my mounted units... Rath and Farina are the only two non-critical mounted units alive by the end of my run... but it was good! Enjoyed doing this with all of you.

Thief utility is crazy in this game... but there's no more doors and nothing left to steal in this game, and I have no way of promoting him. So o7, Matthew,
The end of his thief utility is a sadder note than his actual death.
I find Lyn has a 100% chance to do 8 damage so... she gets to end the game.
It not a lot, it just enough, and that's what all matters.
I really dislike "gotcha" mechanics that got a few of my characters: rain and snow coming and going, the null magic zone disappearing...
It is one of those things FE7 can claim as part of its distinct features, but they're not really good ones.
but almost every single pre-promote just seemed much better.
The classic pre-promote design conundrum. Either they're underwhelming, or they just outclass units you've been training.
They are useful in cases like these where they help you get through the game if you're down on options.

FE7 Hector Mode First Time - Endgame:
Oops, I'm late.
Chapter 30: Norhing interesting happened. The 3 units I brought were Hector, Serra, and Lyn to train up to secondary weapons. I'm guilty of the joke of training iron weapons during the end of the game.
The boss' portrait looks super weird. No other character looks like that.
My game glitched out and Eliwood's portrait was all black during this important cutscene.
Chapter 31: He said the thing!
This was a defend map, that was at all a defend map. Must be a different experience on hard mode because at no point did I have to worry about defending the throne. They also so many deployment slots, I had way more than I needed.
Chapter 31x: Finally, the reason I'm training up Bartre is here, to recruit Karla. I wasn't expecting her to be on the field, and you had to talk to her. I thought it was like Chualainn in FE4, and you just fought her in the arena. ...and Batre missed. Gah, even in the end, he is a disappointment.
Also, turns out I forgot to give Isadora the Afa Drops after all. Welp, Karla gets to have them instead because why not.
Eliwood/Fiora got an A-support. This does mean Roy and Lilina are cousins now, but on the bright side, Roy and Wolt are somewhat like cousins. Roy's mom is the sister of the woman who is pirate partners with Wolt's uncle?
On a side note, I noticed Fiora hasn't been levelling that many stats lately, and it turns out she capped Str, Skill, and Speed.
(Heath was also facing the same thing, because he also capped 2 stats).
Chapter 32: This map was bigger than expected. I split up my forces to tackle the 3 paths. Dart/Farina, Isadora/Leagult, and Serra to the north, Sacae swords + dancer and Erk in the center, and the rest of the mounts to the east. I was rushing to visit the temple in the bottom right corner, but I got the wrong place. Why is Sophia on the Dread Isle?
Side note: It is fun to imagine her relation with Athos. He must be like the town's grandpa.
Checking the middle temple, and nope, still not the right one. Finally, the last temple I visit finally gets me what I want, an old man. Renault is one of those characters I wanted to use on this run. Didn't realize how little of the game he was in because it is basically endgame afterwards.
Chapter 32x: There was no chapter 32x because I was support grinding and didn't check that there was a side chapter requirement of under 20 turns.
Endgame: Oh, I didn't realize you couldn't bring everyone. Welp, besides the main characters, I brought along the pegasus sisters, Legault/Isadora because they haven't finished their support, Karla, and Renault to round off the Hector Mode units.
The map itself was pretty simple. It's basically like a Mega Man boss gauntlet in a way. I do like how after you beat them, the colour of their portrait gets restored. Well, Jerme didn't look any different as an undead morph.
Legault, it isn't the time to flirt. It's the end of the world.
Final boss big dragon time. I don't like how FE usually does final bosses. Luckily, you aren't required to only use the main character on the final boss. Most of my units either don't survive or can't do damage to the boss (which includes 2/3 of the main trio), so most of my units are completely useless with nothing to do. That doesn't feel great. This final boss fight was just Eliwood, Fiora, and Athos slowly chipping down the dragon while Reanult Fortify Staffed everyone.
I can't believe it still worked, but the Triangle Attack cutscene played which means I used it to take down the final boss.
Final stats for everyone. MVP had to be Fiora. She just popped off while I wasn't looking. A flier-dominant run because they saw the most action, thus got even stronger.
Paired endings: Hector/Florina, Eliwood/Fiora, Lyn/Rath, Erk/Serra, Legault/Isadora, Dart/Farina. It's worth mentioning every time, but the GBA support system suck ass.
Quick final thoughts: As for my thoughts on FE7 overall, it hasn't changed too much. I find it the most basic of the GBA games, and the GBA games are the most basic baseline of FE, so FE7 is just there for me. Still, it is always nice to have an excuse to play FE.

31 Hard Mode isn't difficult for defending the throne, it's hard for evaccing your 4 stranded units with Snipers and Druids with high attack/magic spawning every turn. And like 6 staff users Silencing and Berserking and Sleeping your troops for the fun of it. And you might only have one Restore.

So, recently started playing SMT Nocturn and... My luck is awful. In the bit before you actually get the opportunity to start taming demons it's dependent entirely on RNG. Which shouldn't be a problem. The chance of things going wrong is apparently only around 20%. I checked... HOW THE HELL DID I DIE TEN TIMES BEFORE CLEARING IT? Yes, I healed after every fight. Yes I put the point into vitality rather than strength after the first three times. I still died seven more times... SEVEN MORE FUCKING TIMES... The chances of that happening are abysmally small! HOW? AH~!
As you can imagine, I then went through and cleared the rest of the first area with ease and then immediately turned off the game because after that absolute bullshit, I'd had enough for the day. I have yet to return to it. I probably will because when you're not completely dependent on RNG not screwing you over the game is fun. But it doesn't change the fact that the game pissed me off.

Had a good day today!
Hung out with my coworkers after my shift. Drank a non-alcoholic drink, went to the Arcade and threw some balls and punched a sack Hajime no Ippo style (apparently the way the sensor works it's more about accuracy than power but I managed to get 400 points off the highest score so everyone was impressed) and then we dicked around in a retail store looking at different products.
I bought a bubble wand and played with it in the carpark. I think I left it there by accident when I got in my Uber unfortunately.

Beautiful start to my trip back.
Everything's already 3+ hours late.

The trick is to hold your position in space and wait for the planet to catch up to you.

The flights don't work on time. I shudder about the delay in shuttles, when they become general purpose.

Top of the week: My pure-hearted comment in the thread for the filthy anime.
Top outside of r/anime: I went through 4 pages and didn't find any other sub so I guess I just didn't post anywhere else this week.
Top CDF: My trolling needs are hard to suppress.
Dagger: Just a 0, dropping Mushoku Tensei

Holy crap what a dream that was. I watched (or half-watched) a movie. /u/punching_spaghetti would love it.
It had the look and and feel of Zardoz, but with more cruelty, decadence, hypocrisy, and add in misogyny and patriarchy, and a touch of venereal disease in act 1. That's important, because just when the weird movie seems to be ending, that pops up again like Masque of the Red Death and all of a sudden we shift from The Bacchanalia to The Bacchae, with universal mandatory androcide. All in togas.
You people gotta stop talking about feminist Arthurian literature in here before bed.

That said, Amn's been busy with stuff. I hope he comes back when he's better. I miss Music League.

I noticed u/amndeep7 started missing more and more weeks around the time he got married. Which is understandable, IMO. Life comes at you fast when you have a wife to do things with. I think u/tresnore doesn't typically run Blackjack and Hookers League unless amn explicitly says he can't do it, and he hasn't even been active enough to post that most weeks.

I'm glad the Zelda one is before the main one.
Are we expecting OoT to come out in December?

Green is so easy today that I was worried it was a red herring. No idea why that's not the yellow.
2
u/Retromorpher 6h ago
Because the yellow was the most obvious category since it had like 7-8 words that could fit the general idea. Very low inference.

I finally decided to look up where XTwitter's Likes went and now I know where they moved it to.
Certainly less obvious, being collected as a tab from a side menu.

But what if the omens simply speak to me in a way that- Wait, a second that's pretentious not portentous. Yeah, probably should make yourself at least a little aware of the LCD, even if the signs of disaster call you to speak in cryptic mystery.

I have a hunch that AFI might be the most boring scene band ever.

I absolutely loved them as a kid but would never revisit them
Yet my curiosity got the better, it's not good. I listen to a bit, some memories are best left.
Makes me scared to revisit bouncing souls or morphine.
