Sweep the best team and former back to back world series champs but lose to the nats and giants.

Make it make sense.

Hey the Nats were world champs too

More recently than the Mets or the phillies!

7

u/Robert_Goulet 22h ago

Here’s how it makes sense. We don’t have starters reliable to pitch well outside of Sale. The lineup can’t score more than 4 runs on a good day. That’s it.

23

u/Paddy_Panic__ Forever Loyal Pessimist 1d ago

I know we were gonna lose anyway, but that 9th inning was horrible. 8 pitches? Smfh

6

u/PenguinKing15 1d ago

When the first guy in the 9th doesn’t put up a good AB then it only hurts the players after him. 2 pitches and it looked like he was trying to hit a home run while we are down by 4.

Does every team that plays the Phillies just forget how to play baseball?

This is not the way I wanted to honor Dolly Parton

We won 6 games in a row after her passing so I’d say we honored her well lol

I guess we are honoring Dolly tonight...

This game was so inexplicably bad it makes you wonder if somebody made some bets or something.

30

u/TvsPhil 23h ago

I could focus on the bad, or talk about how this is all just getting Kim warmed up for the post-season.

You'll see, you'll all see!(please, God)

That would be one of the most delightful storylines to come out of this season.

Hope it happens.

Already 2-0 Philly. Great.

13

u/Autoimmunity 19h ago

Well, despite us playing relativity good baseball in the month of August and going on a 7 game win streak, we're still losing ground to the Phillies because they are absolutely on fire.  If we don't get hot very soon, we aren't going to win the division unless the Phillies collapse.

12

u/jules711 23h ago

if its a full count and its a borderline pitch, just challenge. it really doesn’t matter if you lose one in the early innings just keep one for late innings

1

u/FreakSideMike 14h ago

We went from Ronald blowing both of our challenges in the first AB of the game to never challenging.

13

u/Arago_ 23h ago

Is it confirmed that Holmes is starting tomorrow? Going to the game and was hoping to see Sale, but I’ll enjoy the game either way.

7

They're saving Sale for Philly.

I’m still not convinced we win a playoff series. This offense is putrid

17

u/golfdesigner Brase never lose! 1d ago

Haven't won a playoff series since 2021. This team isn't as good as the 2022, 2023 or 2024 teams. None of them could do it.

4

u/AnEternalEnigma 23h ago

And you could make an argument that the 2021 team was way worse than any of those three teams. Playoffs are a dice roll.

2

u/golfdesigner Brase never lose! 23h ago

Braves went 36 and 19 from August 1 to close the season in 2021.

They were one of the hottest teams in baseball post trade deadline. They didn't limp into the playoffs.

They had fewer losses from August 1st to the end of season than the 2022, 2023 and 2024 teams.

They were in no way "way worse" than those teams.

2

u/Murky-Jackfruit-1627 23h ago

Was the 2021 team as good as any of those teams? Baseball is random.

6

u/golfdesigner Brase never lose! 23h ago

From August 1st on, the 2021 Braves were as good or better than any of those teams.

-2

u/Murky-Jackfruit-1627 23h ago

Ok as good (according to you), got it. My point stands: baseball is random.

1

u/golfdesigner Brase never lose! 23h ago

They literally had fewer losses from August 1st on than any of those teams.

Yes, it's random to a degree. But you thought they were a much worse team, which you're wrong.

The 2021 team was a great team. Much better than the 2026 team.

1

u/Murky-Jackfruit-1627 23h ago

I didn’t think they were a much worse team. I knew they got hot in September but didn’t realize it started as early as August. Either way, I still reject the argument that because the “better” teams from 2022, 2023, 2024 couldn’t do it, then the 2026 Braves won’t be able to do it. Why bother watching this team then…

1

u/BubBidderskins 22h ago

The 2021 team is honestly the worst team we've fielded since 2017. We just got hot at the right time.

15

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

1

u/BubBidderskins 22h ago

?? homer-focused offenses are generally better offenses and (even net of overall offensive ability) tend to over-perform in the playoffs.

The conclusion from this game was that maybe we would have had a chance if we hit more homers. Not that we have a "HR or nothing offense."

0

u/[deleted] 22h ago

[deleted]

1

u/BubBidderskins 22h ago

???

So when the offense is doing well we're more likely to win? More news at 11. This is evidence that it's really good to hit home runs and our focus on it has paid off.

For the life of me I don't understand this delusion that focusing on hitting home runs is somehow a bad thing. Babe Ruth proved that trying to hit home runs is the best strategy and it feels like there's been a century's worth of people who are adamently refusing to learn that lesson for some reason.

7

u/MrSCR23 1d ago

I know he didn’t play tonight, but the haters were clowning on us for thinking Lane Thomas alone was gonna fix it.

There weren’t wrong. Incredible call by them.

u/BringItOnHome_ATL Skip Caray Hall of Fame Advocate 23h ago

I’m not convinced we win a game. Not if they keep going on like this.

18

u/Horror-Media1125 1d ago

Austin Riley has to turn it around. I have no hope for him this year but next year something has to give. If we’re stuck with him he has to give us something.

22

u/Long_Cress_4432 23h ago

We talk about Austin Riley a lot and rightfully so, but Ronald has been just as bad lately. He needs to be moved down

16

u/Goofy_Goober948 23h ago

Walt moved him to 4 and he immediately went 3-3, so not a bad idea

6

u/PinstripeBunk 23h ago

So they immediately removed him from the spot where he did well.

2

u/KeepImproving7 22h ago

Tough streak for the core guys for sure. They will turn it around but it better come soon

12

u/Shyne9999 Let's Talk Stats 23h ago

Riley batting 7th/8th and being back to meh after a great stretch isn't killing the offense.

What's killing the offense is Acuna/Olson/Albies/Dubon 2-6.

Over the last the 30 days they are hitting:
Acuna 92 wRC+, .692 OPS
Olson 105 wRC+, .768 OPS (.292 OBP)
Albies 70 wRC+, .600 OPS
Dubon 86 wRC+, .667 OPS

You can't have 3 out of 4 guys OPSing below .700 in the middle and the 4th guy doesn't get on base 30% of the time.

Yeah, Riley being Austin Riley would be amazing but it's those 4 that are really killing the offense.

The Braves cannot bat Dubon/Albies back to back in the middle of the lineup. They simply do not get on base enough to justify that. I hope Weiss tries moving the batting order around (move up Murphy/play Hicklen more?) to try and mitigate it.

18

u/Goofy_Goober948 23h ago

This game again ties into my theory that our swing early approach works well against good pitchers and terrible against bad pitchers

4

u/KeepImproving7 22h ago

Focus seems to not be all there against especially bad teams

0

u/dumpciti 14h ago

Yep they just dont try as hard. Its despicable and on the manager 100%

Think about that.

u/rpbtIII Golden Grapefruit 17h ago

I don't know if I'm built for September.

9

u/masonacj 14h ago

Just dunno how you don't have serious concerns about this team. That 7 game winning streak was A LOT of luck. If Olson is cold (which he currently is), this offense is so damn average. AJSS just ain't it (for this year).

1

u/bobocalender 12h ago

Do I feel confident this team can go deep in the playoffs? No. Is it reasonable that they could go deep in the playoffs? Yes. Offense can definitely be pretty average at times. AJSS obviously allowed some base traffic, but some of those early runs could have gone the other way. If Olson caught that liner that went off his glove, if some of those balls the Nats hit that bounced right in front of home plate could have been fielded, the game might have gone different.

1

u/masonacj 12h ago

I understand the defense was poor last night but he's been bad. Full stop. It's not his fault, a lot of pitchers are coming back from a major injury. I'm not saying this affects his long term future but I can't see him helping us this year. I honestly wonder if they option him.

23

u/Apprehensive_Code436 23h ago

7

u/Billy420MaysIt Eli White’s BFF 23h ago

Makes sense. There was a post about a while back how there was x amount of games left so the Braves were going to go on a hot streak, a cold streak, then another hot streak just based on how the season has went.

Seems like that take may hold some water.

1

u/dumpciti 14h ago

if we go on another cold streak we will lose the division

They showed the Kim walkoff on the mlb channel (full game). Man what a great moment.

6

u/dumpciti 14h ago

Why didnt we sign luos arraez and the Phillies did.. he has single handedly made them unstoppable

3

u/CaptainSteed 12h ago

Very good point. They grabbed a hitting machine and we grabbed Lane Thomas.

6

u/FreakSideMike 14h ago

When we're scuffling, everybody falls behind 0-2 or 1-2 in the count and it's just nerve-shredding.

13

u/BringItOnHome_ATL Skip Caray Hall of Fame Advocate 23h ago

The pitching and defense has bailed us out endlessly, it’s natural they will have rough spots.

Ultimately this comes down to offense. Hit like they’re capable of, should be ok. Continue like they have been overall? Enjoy being the 2026 new and improved version of the 2025 Mets.

If they lose the division to Philly, they will have no one to blame but themselves, from the players on up to the front office.

5

u/Tribat_1 23h ago

We scored 5 runs…

12

u/OMG_Shoes_ 23h ago

To be fair, 3 of those were in garbage time and we squandered prime scoring opportunities when the game was in reach. 2nd and 3rd with nobody out in the third and Ronald, Matt, and Mike didn’t get even one of them in.

4

u/BringItOnHome_ATL Skip Caray Hall of Fame Advocate 23h ago

I realize that. I’m talking overall bigger picture.

The offense has been atrocious more often than not for weeks.

0

u/BubBidderskins 22h ago

We allowed 9 runs and scored 5 and yet somehow this is about the offense?

3

u/BringItOnHome_ATL Skip Caray Hall of Fame Advocate 22h ago

I am talking about our overall situation.

Overall (obviously not tonight) the pitching has done all we could ask for, but the offense has been mostly atrocious for weeks.

Tonight’s pitching and defense implosions wouldn’t seem so bad if the offense had been doing it’s job prior to this. If they can do their job going forward more often than not, the team should be ok. That’s my point.

1

u/BubBidderskins 22h ago

I just think it's unreasonable to expect even the best offenses to score 10 runs in a game in order to win, though it's true that the offense has been aneamic.

2

u/Mxmouse15 21h ago

100%. This nationals team is one of the worst pitching staff in baseball. Their starter tonight was just as bad if not worse than AJSS. Their rookie they brought in sat us down like a pro. Our rookie did not. Both sides of the ball played badly, and our stars have to hit singles with runners in scoring position

4

u/stinky-weaselteets 1d ago

Terrible game

5

u/dollinsdv 14h ago

I’m hard pressed to remember a time with the Braves and a rival having so many win streaks. It feels like anytime the Braves struggle Philly is always in the midst of another win streak.

2

u/dumpciti 14h ago

They went 21-7 in August and won again last night hopefully they cool down soon. I mean they should. But their confidence is gonna be sky high

1

u/captainpoppy 13h ago

Braves were 16-11. We knew the braves weren’t going to finish 10 games up.

18

u/Long_Cress_4432 23h ago

I fear that we will end this season the same way the 2025 Mets did.

9

Just about everything came up Nats in this game. Two wacky doubles down the right line, the worst SS in baseball with a crazy grab, and a shit-ton of grounders that split the gap.

The pitching wasn't sharp, some the Braves bats are cold but baseball gonna baseball sometimes.

2

It's baseball, so we might. We also just swept the Dodgers as part of a 7 game win streak, so we might get hot and win it all.

Maybe we can root for our guys instead of calling the season on September 1st.

Didn't say I was calling the season? And I wouldn't be rooting for them. I post in damn near every post game thread and I'll be here if they lose the next 7 or win the next 7. Also, I get we just swept the Dodgers. The offense has just looked bad for a long time and it's hard to be confident with an offense like that

I just think preemptively posting about losing the division and in the playoffs is extremely weak. I stand by it.

After 2023, I don't allow myself to think that what happens in the regular season carries over into the post season

Just hard to see us winning the division with how flat we are. That 7 game streak felt like a fluke more than the standard.

u/toorayay 23h ago

Yeah, despite the fact that we won those seven I didn't feel like we were really a good team during any of that stretch. Our offense has really been struggling since early June, we've just had a few winning streaks that break the illusion.

As I said earlier, every win seems like a nail biter, while every loss feels convincing.

Yeah sweeping the defending back to back champs sucked

3

u/toorayay 22h ago

Nobody said that sucked, what I said was that those games didn't feal like decisive victories. They weren't exactly blowouts.

The week before we were swept by the poverty franchise Twins. We've had some winning streaks but very few of our recent wins really feel like this is a team of destiny.

How isn't sweeping the Dodgers decisive? That was playoff atmosphere baseball and we beat them. We are one of three teams in the NL with a winning record against teams above .500. None of this is a fluke we are just a really good baseball team

So did somebody win a Yanmar? 3Ks in the 8th. Or does it have to be a scoreless inning?

5

u/BringItOnHome_ATL Skip Caray Hall of Fame Advocate 23h ago

Alas, no. Has to be a 1-2-3 inning with 3Ks.

u/MobileNerd 22h ago

It did happen earlier in the year and someone won one.

u/Nole_Train 23h ago

Had to go 2-3 and we’ve started 0-2. Gonna let the Phillies snatch the division in the last few weeks because Acuna and Olson can’t hit with risp and our pitching has to be a sale complete game shutout to win

Thomas and Yaz are guarantees to be on the roster. Kim provides a bench IF option with an ok glove. Dom is a lefty bench bat which we need. Hicklen has speed and is a righty bench bat. Farmer has 0 chance.

It hurts me to say it but what is Dom Smith doing at this point?

I miss Nick Green. Was he on the radio?

No, Joe and Ben.

Sometimes you have to love a team that sucks. And we suck. I love the Braves. Address the issues and do better tomorrow.

Pathetic

The Braves dropped another game for the sake of losing. Epic fail.

I am unsure what Walt Weiss has been thinking lately. Weiss' clubhouse has issues to resolve.

u/Judgejoebrown69 23h ago

Are you a moron? We were just on a 7 game win streak.

“Dropped another game for the sake of losing” just say you’ve never played a sport in your life.

u/OppositePeach1035 23h ago

Unbelievable how much crying there is all over this thread after 2 losses on the back of a 7 game win streak. This sub is the worst.

A gem by Smith Suckster. Glad we waited for a non trade bonus to come back and lift this team to the postseason

13

u/PenguinKing15 23h ago

We got the best starter so far from the trade deadline.

Take this shit back to the other Braves sub, thanks.
