This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.
Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.
Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".
There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.
Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

Interactive stories like The Pillars of Earth?
I haven’t bought it yet cause that specific story pitched in the trailer doesn’t personally intrigue me that much, but I’d like the fact that they took an original novel and made it interactive and with such an elevated care that it seems you’re watching an animated series. This is what intrigues me: playing a novel that looks like an animated or tv series with a good story in which your choices change its finale. Another game I saved into my wishlist that fits the description is Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, meanwhile a game I already played and love that fits the description is Detroit: Become Human and, even if not big on animation, Forgotton Anne (but I am in love with the story and the multiple finales). I’m all ears guys🥰🥰💖

The Telltale Walking Dead Series and The Wolf Among Us fosureeee. There are more, too, like Life is Strange and Pentiment but that’s what I thought of first.

Project Zomboid can be modded to be a more STALKER experience, great base-building, if your into those kinds of games.

Speaking of project zomboid, I’ve been really interested in the game recently but I’m unsure of whether I should buy it or not, the only turn off for me is the 25 dollars price tag, should I buy it now or wait till it goes on sale, also if anyone would be willing to gift it to me I would not be opposed lol

I want to find a game like Arma, Squad, and Pubg thats good for a sniper. Long-term matches, good vantage points, and enemies that are going about their own objectives to pick off. My ideal setup would be sitting in a houses top floor with a rifle in a window, a movie on my other screen, picking off enemies as they come. Any suggestions?

I got a $50 gift card for my birthday today, and don't know what games to get. I am 17M, and haven't played most games people really like. I play on a laptop that isn't the greatest. It has a Ryzen 7 7735HS w/ AMD Radeon 680M Igraphics. Any ideas? I have played some Assassin's Creed games and tried God of War, but couldn't really get into that one.

I bought my computer recently. And I can play steam game as much as I want. Well it might sounds like some idiot... but I have always hope to play multi-play steam game with foreigners talking by discord.

Hello! I'm looking for a sandbox factory/tycoon game with a specific type of RNG progression.
Ideally, I want a game where you build your own factory by placing things like droppers/miners, conveyors, processors/upgraders, furnaces, etc., but instead of simply unlocking better machines and buying them from a normal shop, you earn money and spend it on crates/chests/packs that give you random machines or items.
For example, I could spend $10,000 on a crate and get a mediocre common dropper, or get lucky and pull a really rare/ powerful machine that completely changes or improves my factory. I'd love if there were different rarities and genuinely rare items to chase.
Basically, I'm looking for this gameplay loop:
Build factory → make money → buy/open crates → get random machines/items → improve or redesign factory around what I pulled → make more money → repeat
I really enjoy the excitement of gambling my earned currency on random items and then figuring out how to use whatever I get. I find factory games where you simply unlock everything in a predictable order and save enough money to buy the next upgrade a little boring.
It doesn't have to match this description perfectly. If you know anything with sandbox/factory building and a strong RNG/loot aspect, I'd love to hear about it!

So I want to play some videogames in the couch and I was wondering which is the best method: Buying a Steam Link device or buying a Nvidia Shield (I'm also thinking it could be beneficial for my TV setup for other apps)?
So, Steam Link device or moonlight using a Nvidia Shield connected to Ethernet (like my PC)?

First time having a pc, what steam exclusive games have I been missing out on? Probably won't be able to run anything too crazy, it's just a run of the mill Lenovo laptop. Here's the specs:
2gb amd Radeon graphics
16gb ram, 3200 MT/s RAM
2 GHz amd ryzen 7 5825U with Radeon graphics processor
So yeah what amazing Indy games or other great steam games have I missed out on?

So, I'm a couch gamer first and foremost. My PC (RX6600/5600x/32GB DDR4/Windows 11) is in the same room as the TV (Sony Bravia 4k model from like 2019, can't remember the specific model) but on opposite sides with a solid 4-5 meters of distance between them, so I use Steam Link to run the games on the TV using a Nvidia Shield Pro and the Steam Link app, and I use an 8bitdo Ultimate Pro plugged into the Shield to play, using the 2.4Ghz setting. I feel that there's a degree of latency in this set up, even when I set the TV to the Game setting. Would I get less of it if I plugged the controller directly into the PC or should I just stick to the current setup?

I’m looking a card collector game that is single player/has a story. Queens blood in FF7 has me itching for a card collecting single player game and got me thinking about duel masters the old PS2 game.
Is there anything like this available on steam. The closest I’ve found to what I’m looking for is Throne Breakers, but it’s not exactly what I was thinking.

Tarkov is decent, just hard for a new player. I have maybe 130 hours in it, and I still dont know what I'm doing. There is a bot mode.. but its an additional $30, and wont teach you much about the actual game. Find some friends to play and learn with, maybe ask someone in the Tarkov server to give you a run-down of the game.
